So what I Read is that he took 3 engineering type courses and did well in all 3 but decided to not pursue Engineering, but then he decided to give Engineering another shot as a major but when he does he wants to do well in it.

Sounds like a kid serious about schoolwork and serious about determining what major to pursue.

Seems that football would or could hurt his chances out of the box for engineering......does not exactly say that in the article but reading between the lines that seems to be it.

Maybe he comes back to football later?
Maybe he just wanted to be QB and he was not confident of his chances of achieving that job?

In the end he is still attending URI but without scholarship.

Best of luck to him and his academic and career plans. The new engineering building will be an exciting time for all Engineering majors.

While it's a disappointment for the team he sounds like a kid who thinks long-term.

Yeah. Engineering isn't exactly a non-demanding program; I think only pharmacy might be more demanding in terms of its coursework at URI.

I thought I'd play tennis (back when there was a men's team) but I had no idea the workload that the International Engineering Program would have freshman year. 3 freakin labs first semester on campus. NO way am I missing labs.

His Dad,the late, great Scott Desilva is spinning in his grave.
Favreau bailed also.

Bet part of it,was confidence in competing at that level.
Stuff like this hurts RI kids.

I'm not going to begrudge anyone who decides to fully pursue an education instead of playing college football. My buddy did track at URI for a year and would come home exhausted and barely able to focus on his classwork. I imagine it's far worse for football. If you can do it, great, but it's obviously an entirely different level of intensity vs. high school football.

From what I've heard URI engineering grads are hotly pursued, and in demand. Good for him; he knows where his future is.

Bottom line is the kid never gave it a chance.

This might be the dumbest thing I've read in a long time. I promise you, there isn't a good father that's ever lived that would spin over in his grave because his son gave up playing for a crappy FCS program so he could strive toward his goal of becoming an engineer. I realize that with how terrible our program is that fans have to say and think some things that don't make a ton of sense to rationalize the state of things, but the sheer ignorance of your statement is off the charts.

The only opinion I have on this is that our academic support for athletics should be such that student athletes don't have to choose between playing a sport and taking "real" classes.
