Lots of pros and cons to the internet era but this is undoubtedly one of the pros. If you are talented, there are a million ways to get noticed and eventually move towards a mainstream job and, hopefully, the compensation that goes with it.

It's the long tail theory at play. The A10 was an under served market, and proved to be an excellent entry point for CDs brand in the college basketball media world. If he wrote about leagues and teams readily available in a million other places it would have been much more challenging to be noticed for his great work. Access is the currency in the new media landscape.
