I'm saying....that is the most insane offer list I've ever seen. Think this kid likes the recruiting game?

He likes to get mail, calls and tweets.

I think the long list reflects his progress as a player. A year ago at this time, he had literally zero offers. The 2014 July live period brought him some low-major offers, and he's continued to rise through the ranks, so the mid-major and above offers are now starting. It will be interesting to see where his offer ceiling ends up being.

Monday May 25 vs Pro Skills(10-7) Won 69-68 - 32 minutes 15 reb / 12 pts

Wish we had a better relationship with BABC.
Seems we put all our eggs in the Expressions Elite basket.

A bunch of Expressions kids over the weekend. A BABC kid today. I like it. We need to be involved with both.

Well, his relationship with Jarvis G. at Worcester Academy certainly is a plus….

Included in the article are some of his latest Spring 2015 AAU highlights.

Most recent offers have come from UMASS, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Minnesota and Kansas State.
Great that he was on an unofficial.

Biggest AAU Tournament of the year coming up for Marfo and BABC.
BABC Scheduled Games in Pool D will be:
July 9 - NY Lightning
July 9 - Elfrid Payton Elite (Louisiana)
July 10 - PSA Cardinals (NYC) - Christian Vital
July 10 - Mokan Elite (Kansas City) - Shamorie Ponds
July 11 - E1T1 (Florida)

This is where guys like Marfo can really help themselves playing in front of virtually all the Top 100 D1 Head Coaches and many assistant coaches.
So this visit by Marfo at this point in time is very important.
He was offered on an unofficial visit to Boston College recently.
He has also been offered by Xavier

Now that Tyrique is off the board, I hope we have a shot at Wenyen Gabriel. Marfo is more of a project, IMO. He's not the athlete that Tyrique and Gabriel are.

Jones plays for Expressions Elite - did not qualify for the EYBL Championships.
BABC finished 13-4 and is considered a contender for the National Championship. Probably makes sense for Marfo to hold off until end of July or later, gain the visibility in EYBL Championships - but agree it would be unbelievably awesome of he picked us today. Just what we need, a burley, ferocious rebounder, and shoots effectively inside too.

Not that I would mind getting Marfo. With a lot of work with ARD, he could become a good player. Gabriel just has more upside at this point.

Guys tend to take official visits when flights and hotels are involved or the high cost trips. They take unofficial visits like Marfo did at Boston College And URI since they are so close with little cost. Doesn't diminish the importance that Marfo chose to visit or got invited to visit URI today. They get 5 official visits.

Gives a good idea of Marfo's type of game against EYBL competition in session 4.
Lunch pail type guy with strength and good rebounding instincts.

Martin was from NYC, Terrell was from Greater Boston.
They took official visits.
Official visits mean they're serious.
We've had countless unofficlal visits, and not one resulted in
a direct connittment.

True, Martin and Terrell did take official visits.
And if I had Marfo's game I'd save my 5 official visits for the likes of recent offers from Minnesota, Kansas state, Georgia tech and whoever pops up in North Augusta in July.
I'd be shocked if he commits before mid July.

Local recruits will often take unofficial visits and follow up with official sometime later.

Complete agreement. Marfo simply did his unofficial first at URI and at BC. As I said I would be shocked if Marfo committed prior to the Peach Jam where he will be in front of virtually all the top Head Coaches in the Country.
He is right in not wasting an official at URI when the P5 schools could come calling even more than they have up to now. He is wise to save those precious 5 official visits for possible long, costly trips. Or if he truly wants to remain in New England he will play his 5 official cards locally. Patience for him is a virtue.
Correct that an unofficial should not get hopes up. An official to URI for a local guy like this would mean more but not likely for a kid like this who is turning heads like he is this summer.

He was also playing ball at PC this past weekend on an unofficial visit there. Making the rounds.

I have one fear with Marfo. He reminds me a lot of Iffy. Hopefully his game develops a lot more than Iffy's has.

I think you guys are underrating Marfo a lot. He's a very good post player and has really started to blow up. I would take him in a second. Also, I have heard that Gabriel is a BC lean but hoping for a Duke offer. The way he is rising up the charts he just might get it.

In Hurley's time here, we've never gotten one of these super early commitments. It seems like they use July to focus in on targets and then put the full court press on for the November signing period.

I am no recruiting expert but he shows alot of good things in that tape. I liked the baseline moves he had, but then he had the shot fake and he used the rim to shield his lay up by going up on the other side. I was impressed. It all seems to happen slow but he is in high school. Not college. I would imagine if he was doing all the things he does at a more athletic rate he would be a 1-done candidate.

I think the Iffy comparisons are just because they actually look alike. Iffy has a very mature body. To have a similar body to him is to be given a gift. So long as you can move it and jump. Iffy lacks those things.

He’s waiting to finish up the AAU season to really focus on his recruitment, but he did say that several schools were working hardest for him: Rhode Island, Saint Joseph’s, George Washington and Georgia Tech. Pittsburgh, Providence, St. Mary’s and Notre Dame had also been in touch, though that quartet was yet to offer.

Marfo looking to Sept visits

Dale McDuffie
GoJackets.com Staff

BABC power forward Kevin Marfo had a successful AAU season that resulted in new offers. The Worchester, MA recruit is enjoying the remainder of his summer, with his family, before he begins cutting his list and setting up visits.

Marfo has recently received offers from Fordham, Pittsburgh, and Providence. “I feel that my successful AAU season really paid off and it helped me get noticed.”

Most of the schools that have offered Kevin have stayed in touch with him. “George Washington, St Josephs, Georgia Tech, St Mary’s, Georgetown, Minnesota, Xavier, and Boston College are the schools that have kept in touch with me.”

Kevin has talked with Georgia Tech Coach Brian Gregory. Coach Gregory has invited Kevin to come down for a visit. “He wants to show me the school and talk to me about the system he runs.” Coach Gregory likes Kevin at the four.

Other schools are also looking at Kevin to play the three and five. “I’m intrigued by the combination of basketball and academics that Georgia Tech offers.”

Marfo has yet to set up any visits. “I’d like to spend some time at home and then get with my parents to set up September visits.” Kevin hopes to take all five of his official visits. He may also take some unofficial visits to schools in his area.

It is too early, in Kevin’s mind, to name any favorites. He wants to first take his visits and then talk it over with his family. “I don’t want to make any school think I’m not considering them right now.” Kevin feels he’s still in the formative stage of his recruitment.

A decision in the early signing period is still planned by Marfo. There is a possibility that the visits may push his decision back to the late signing period. “I just want to make the right decision and not hurry into that decision.”

Kevin feels that his recruitment is going the way he wants it to go. “It picked up after my junior year at Worchester Prep and it’s picking up even more now after the AAU season.”

Well, if we haven't kept in touch with him, according to him......

I guess we're going to have to wait until fall to get any commitments. No official visits from anyone at this point, is a pretty good sign of that.....

WTF! Are we on anyone's short list?
This is beginning to resemble last year, when one by one
we could check every single one of the bigs we were known
to be chasing.

Even though Verbal Commits lists the Tweet that said URI offered Marfo some 90 days ago, 24/7 indicates that Marfo hasn't even been a "target," never mind "been offered" by Rhody.
Very perplexing…..
Yet another case for the gumshoe.
But -- a-aha! -- he must've been Not-So-Funny-Murray's recruit, because Xavier is on the list. The Jokester must've destroyed his URI-issued IPhone6 when he bolted…..

He visited in June, albeit an unofficial one.
