Mods, any way to change the thread title so it says "replaces" instead of replaced?

Blue Man, is Boswell still coming here too?
If so, then Carr is moving....
Big men coaches, plus major recruiting upgrades. Can't beat that with a stick.....
Rod, sometimes wishes CAN come true!

Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
Hearing Tirone may be moving on, too.
His is a non recruiting position.
Maybe they can slide Carr over and hire Boswell, which
would give us a really super recruiting staff.
Adam, show me where anyone ever said they didn't like Dan?
Are you married? Like everything your wife does? Or what
your kids do?
Dan isn't always going to do what we'd like or want, but he's our coach.
The guy most of us wanted.
NEVER DOUBT BAR!

Can everyone just be happy and not take shots at each other? Especially after this great hire? Is that possible?

Enright left the assistant DBO job for Bridgewater State.
After Arthur almost ate him, he decided it was time to leave RI.

My all time favorite Ram (not the best, favorite). Loved his game from the first time I saw him play at the Boston Shootout. No one got more out of his natural abilities than him.
What a warrior and a welcome addition to the staff. I think ARD has a great story to tell about URI to potential recruits.
Kudo's to Dan for bringing him back.

15, some people on this board don't like others' opinions, so they are critical of same.
That's OK. Going forward, anyone who feels the need to insult me in their posts, will not get a response.
It's not worth getting pissed off over.

Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
4diffs, you know, ARD can sell URI and reallllyyyyy mean it.
His love for URI is on his sleeve.
No substitute for that.
He's also close to the Atlanta Celtics AAU program, which produces
some big time talent, as well as Florida connections.
Now, if Boswell comes on board, he covers New England, Cox Mid Atlantic,
so it's all good.

It's funny. A 4 star PF from Atlanta just decommitted last week. I was thinking that if we had ARD on staff, we might have a shot at him. I wish I could remember who he was.

Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
Well, don't forget. He was recruiting for a lower level D-1 program.
It was like Dan took Aaman with him.
I think ARD starts recruiting for URI when he gets here. Then he
can go after bigger fish, using his contacts.
If the decommitted player is someone he has some ties or contacts to,
then he could sell Rhody and Dan Hurley to him.

Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
Rod, this is definitely a major sea change in Dan's thinking when it comes to his staff.
Gone, or will be gone for the most part, are the "familiars" that he is so used to working with.
I think he realizes now, that those guys were only going to get the program so far toward becoming a national player. They were good for Wagner, but this is a much different level.
It's good to see, for sure. If Boswell replaces Carr, then the restructuring of the staff will likely be complete, at least for the forseeable future.

Cox, ARD and Boswell would be a dynamic recruiting team,
for sure.
Exciting times in Kingston. Dan wasn't kidding, when he said
it would be a busy month.

Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
Boswell could be a nice addition, but with any guy tied to 1 program you are basically banking on getting his players to come here. If they don't he is of little value. It's a gamble with any of those types of guys. Seton Hall now has Whitehead's HS coach on staff, ok so now what...can he recruit anyone else besides his own player?

Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
Not sure it makes sense to say that the guys who've left were a problem that were holding this team back when they've all moved on to higher level programs. I said over a month ago that everything in this program was under continued evaluation- not because there was a problem but because that's part of what good leadership does. That's what you have now. With the assistants salary pool that they have, a lot of very qualified guys are immediately shut out because they can get more elsewhere. This is a promotion for ARD. He should be good as an assistant at URI, but I've been most impressed with him as a person when hearing him talk about his daughter, Naomi, who has Autism. He will also learn about recruiting within the confines of this conference, but he's a wonderful connection to the past and a strong representative of the school. Welcome back.
BAR- Seton Hall got themselves in quite a mess with those kind of hiring practices, including bringing on a guy that set them up well for Sina. I mean, how'd that work out?

Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
If ARD can sell URI like Preston could, then recruiting will be in good hands, especially when it comes to big men.
I don't see why that wouldn't happen.

There is no magic elixir. Preston also sold it to Daniel West, Rayvon Harris and Other busts. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The most impt part of the entire equation was and is Dan, he continues to make good decisions.

Don't recall anyone saying that about Preston or Bobby.
BAR, I don't know any assistant that hasn't helped recruit busts. Hare was highly
regarded. EC? Nuff said. Did you like TJ Buchanan? TJ and Hare were wrapped up under
Baron. Why take shots at Preston?
Murray? Sorry not a big loss, no matter how sugar coating anyone puts on it.

Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
Not taking shots Rod, just dispelling the myth that any one assistant hire is going to seminally change things and all of a sudden 5 star big man will want to come here because of ARD. Biggest winner today, Hassan Martin.

There's nothing to sugarcoat. The assistants who have moved on have all gone to better programs. It's fine. ARD, on paper, looks to be a very good fit.

Shawntrez Davis (the rebounding machine) is another Atlanta '15 PF. Funny, he visited BC a little while back and Preston was the one recruiting him. I think he's still uncommitted.Billyboy78 wrote:Yes! Thanks, Ace!ace wrote:Would you be thinking of former Florida commit Noah Dickerson?Billyboy78 wrote:It's funny. Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
Check out James Banks 2016 of the Atlanta Celtics.
Here's a guy whose recruitment is wide open, and maybe
ARD can get us involved.
Or Braxton Blackwell another 2016 for the Atlanta Celtics.
He's from TN, but somehow plays AAU ball in Atlanta.
Lots of possibilities.

From the article:
Reynolds-Dean was a finalist the last time URI had an opening, one created by the departure of former Rams’ teammate Preston Murphy to Boston College after the 2013-14 season. URI opted for current assistant David Cox instead, but the impression Reynolds-Dean made in his first interview with Hurley was a lasting one.

Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
Welcome back ARD!
I applaud this decision. Another piece in place to help us compete at a higher level. He should be helpful for both fundamental instruction and recruiting.
I like Dan as our head coach. I just tire of the layers of excuses about his track record at URI by himself and his biggest supporters. The track record is decent there is no reason to try and bullshit us all that he is the next John Wooden by bringing up limitations all of the time. Dan is not above the level of URI basketball. He is a talented hard working coach that is still learning on the job. URI is not some basketball wasteland, we just had previously handed the keys to the Ryan Center to a total bozo and then gave a long term deal to the wrong (totally mediocre) coach. URI would occasionally compete at a high level in the past decades even when the facilities were truly outdated as the University of Rhode Island is a great place to live and get an education. Not everyone wants a big city environment. Only a fool can't sell this place.
I wish Luke Murray future success.

Re: ARD To Join Hurley's Staff
Nice post DD.
Yes, we've had coaches here who achieved things Dan is dreaming of doing
someday.
Calverley, Kraft, Penders, Skinner and Harrick. A lot of wins in their careers, and a lot of NCAAs.
They all took URI to the Big Dance.
Sure, we've been down, but even in CFL's years, there were years that almost made it.
That's not even counting the great Frank Keaney's time.
URI isn't UNH, or some never was program.
It's not Duke, or Kentucky, but there is tradition and moments of greatness.
It's just that there hasn't been sustained winning, year in and year out, since Keaney's day.
