Need to land some St Anthony talent....no excuse....but maybe it hasn't happened because the talent level really hasn't been there

I'm going to break my hiatus for this post:

GET THIS GUY! Would be the perfect replacement for Hassan. Would take over in his soph year. Or he could be a 5.

Hurley Sr. needs to steer him our way big time.....

Funny how 3 schools offered him, yet only 2 are mentioned.

If we can't land this guy, there are problems somewhere.

Tell Bobby he can have someone else, not this one.... :P

Bobby seems to have a legit shot at Thon Maker,
the number one big man in the US.
Nice.

The Thonn Maker thing probably deserves its own thread somewhere, he doesn't want to wait another year to go into the draft so he's reclassing to 2015 but he won't have his requirements until after 1st semester. So he's going to enroll 2nd semester, play half the year and then enter the draft. Wonder if this will become a trend, instead of one and done, we'll have .5 and done.

Thompson flourishes

Each year, the Pangos All-American serves a launching pad for at least a handful of players to take their recruitment to a new level. Power forward Taurean Thompson from Jersey City (N.J.) St. Anthony easily fits the mold of a player who will benefit from a tremendous showing at Pangos.

That Thompson (6-9, 220) took huge steps forward is no surprise. After a solid junior campaign under legendary coach Bob Hurley at St. Anthony, Thompson had put himself into consideration for the 2016 Rivals150 with a good spring playing for the Playaz Basketball Club in Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League.

In Carson, all of the flashes that he had shown over the last six months came together as Thompson was easily the most consistent big man in attendance.

The thing that stood out first about Thompson was his relentless energy. In camp settings, big men are sometimes forgotten, but Thompson made sure he found ways to get the ball. He ran the floor with great effort and he played relentlessly on the glass, which allowed him some easy hoops. After getting scores on the interior, Thompson showed off soft shooting touch to 17 feet.

It's that shooting touch, combined with his size, frame and energy that has allowed him to emerge as a high-major prospect. Thompson listed offers from Xavier, Oklahoma, Arizona State, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Rice, Temple, Old Dominion, Rhode Island, Richmond and St. Joseph's.

If Thompson was on the bubble for the next Rivals150 headed into Pangos, he is now solidly in the field and will easily be among the highest ranked new entries. He had confidence coming into camp and is glad to have seen his play elevate.

"Playing in the EYBL with the Playaz, I'm playing against great competition all the time," Thompson said. "I was pretty confident coming to camp, but you still want to do everything that you can to win and hope that you show people what you can do. I think I did that pretty well."

"I would say Arizona State, Xavier, Oklahoma, Richmond, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Temple, those are schools I'm interested in," Thompson said. "Most likely I will visit ASU, Oklahoma, Xavier, some of the better programs who have offered. I'm just seeing how things go, who else offers, and then go from there."

As he told me would happen,
GREAT news! We begin the season at full strength.
Why is this news in a thread about another player????

Just a reference to the RIU that Bressler had said. Some people in the media still call us RIU. (Probably the editor that posted the article, as I am quite sure Rothstein knows we are URI)

Is there an emoticon for "WTF"???? The wrong Hurley-led university is on his list…..

Mom likes it quiet….Nothing like quiet in Kingston during mid-August.

Or mid-February when Baron is the coach...

That's the problem once Bobby got the Arizona State job. When Bobby was at Buffalo and both Dan and Bobby were recruiting the same player, URI and Dan would seem to have the advantage. Now URI and Dan are the underdog in these cases.

This isn't a slam against Taurean at all, but he wants to go big time- high school, college. And, if he has the ability and opportunity to do so, he should if that's what he wants. He missed the crucial summer before senior year AAU cycle, and he had been looking for more exposure. He's 6'9" with tons of ability and even more potential and the highest programs can take a chance on him, despite his injury history.

OK, so in any case, he's off the board for 2015 recruitment..

Rumor is he could be visiting PC. I know he's not at St. Anthony's anymore, but I would hope that a former player of Bob Sr. wouldn't go to that school.

URI doesn't have a scholarship available and I can't see at this point in the year making one available.
