Great name, good shooter, eligible immediately.

Obviously, the first of a change or two.

Eligible immediately, eh?

Obviously not a big, but anybody who can shoot 40% from 3 and 90% FTs can have a spot on our roster! Would have to imagine that this means AT LEAST one transfer leaving URI, given our need for size as well.

'Four for threeeee' that should be fun to say.

Shot 40% from 3 2 years ago and 37% last year.

Also a 90% free throw shooter

Also this is a Luke Murray recruit, got him to go to Towson and now got him to go to URI

Yes!!!! The spot up shooter rhody so desperately needed!!! He will see a lot of open looks when defenses collapse on EC and Hassan.

Can't imagine him starting, but it seems he's frequently grumpy about playing time:

Noticed that too - would imagine he's been given the full breakdown of our crowded back court and will be fine with an off-the-bench shooter role. My guess is that he's willing to put aside gripes about playing time if he's actually part of a winning team, as we will be.

Does he shoot 4's? :D

Needed a shooter... I like this move. Seems like a guy who could provide a spark off the bench.

Now when we go to our smaller lineups, could we dub this "The core four plus Four?"

If Butler is leaving he certainly makes sense as a replacement for him. I also like that he was on a team that went to the NCAA tournament and won a game.

C'mon. That's a Towson writer. Plus, do you trust these coaches? If yes, there you go.

You're probably right, Ace. I'm sure he's aware of who our guards are.

This seems very promising. Hope he can keep his hot hand next year. We need Offense!!!. Hope he can play defense as well.

So is Reischel gone now? I would rather have Butler, since he's got 2 more years left.

I think O and Butler are leaving. JR? Doubt it.

Certainly don't know for sure, but we should know very soon.

Good stuff, some much needed outside shooting and a guy to get the ball to at the end of games when the other team is fouling. Solving a lot of problems right there.

Would JR be eligible immediately at another school if he transfers?

I'd much rather have JR than butler. JR seemed to know his role a lot better this than than last year. Butler hasn't shown me anything.

Great get. Need the schollie situation to shake out and add a big.

Reischel and Biggie came from Rice, and were [along with Biruta] the first guys Dan brought in when he came here.

For that reason [loyalty] and also need, I don't think JR is going anywhere.

O came later, along with Butler of course. If 2 go, they are the ones imo.

Neither would play hardly at all next season.

Reischel came from Rice, but Biggie came from Texas Tech.

Onyekaba was in the same group as Minnis, Reischel, and Biruta. All four had to to sit out that year.

Why would anyone want Butler taking up a scholarship to do nothing for two more years?
Hope he takes Reischel and Onyekaba with him.
Heard a rumor of Reischel to Maine.

I wouldn't mind JR here next year at all. He hit the open 3 on occasion and was an above average offensive rebounder.

Correct Ace, but I thought that he was brought in after the others during that year. Butler was the next year.

Anyway, I'd be surprised if he [O] stays.

JR to Maine? Interesting.

So, we now have 345 SGs and no real center.
Everyone is having the "Big 0" over this kid.
Has anyone seen him play? Nice percentages against
much lower level competition.
Sorry, people, but we need TWO bigs,
not another SG.

I think Rod may be related to Gasol....... :D

Last I checked, 3ptrs and FTs are the same distance in the Colonial as they are in the A10. You can't deny that we don't need better shooters in both those areas.

If this is the only announcement that comes this Spring, rest assured Rod, we will all join you in being upset. I think it is VERY safe to assume that we have at least one big coming in, and potentially another. I am happy with adding Four. I will not be happy if that is the only roster movement this offseason, which I am very confident it will not be.

Pau has the right idea!
Anybody watching the teams that got into the Final Four?
Any four guard offenses? Any 6'7" centers?
MSU has two rotating 6'9" guys and they're tiny compared to
Kentucky and Wisconsin.

So sf, you think defenses at lower level are the same as say, facing VCU,
or Richmond? Sorry, I don't.
You guys are acting like we landed Sterling Gibbs.

Rod, I think we will get 2 bigs. Like you said, one 4 year guy, and either a grad transfer or juco.

The juco thing seems less and less likely as time goes by, to me anyway.

Whatever happens, we need someone who can play right away.

This rumored big guy that we've been talking about, if he's a transfer, what's the holdup?

There's only a few teams left playing. I doubt he belongs to one of them. And I don't mean from the big tournament.

Rod, Four's going to be a role player, and I think he knows it, or he wouldn't have come here.

Hurley and company have shown, they can recruit guards til they come out of
their collective asses.
Other than Martin, who's recruiting was kind of a fluke, there's little
evidence to show that they can identify and recruit front court talent.
FACT!
It's put up or shut up time. Let's see who this mystery big man is.

I'm with Rod. This pick up is fine as long as it doesn't limit us in signing 2 bigs. So we basically need all of the remainder of Dan's first recruiting class (JR and O) except for Biggie to transfer, or just one of them and Butler leaves.

Re: Four McGlynn

Posted: Tue Mar 31, 2015 7:17 pm

With this Four signing, until anyone leaves, we have NO
scholarships left.
To get two bigs, two guys need to go.

Rod, watching that Ariz.-Wisc. game, it was impressive watching all those big guys who can shoot.

Same with Kentucky and Duke. Notre Dame can shoot lights out, but they weren't big enough.

We could never hang with teams that size. They are bigger than most NBA teams.

That's likely the future in college BB. Teams like us and Dayton can only go so far against that kind of size and athleticism.

Dan is finding just how hard it is, to get that kind of player here. We will never get many of them, but jeez, get a couple please?

Hopefully our continued rise will convince a few to come here. Unfortunately, by the time they do, it might be too late for Hassan and EC to play with them.

Looks like he's got PG skills in this video, handles well and makes some nice passes. And he does have a nice looking shot, lots of "all net". And yeah, I know highlights don't show misses. I mean, I like the look of his shot. Anyway, with PG skills, could back up Jarvis?

I want the ball inbounded to him in the last minute of every game where we have a slim lead. Would be nice to have someone who is automatic from the line. Haven't really had that since Jimmy Baron.

I feel for Hassan Martin, who has NBA aspirations, and has yet
to develop that part of his game needed to attract NBA attention.
According to Gilvydas, Hassan has a ton of weapons that he
doesn't show in games.
Why? Because he's under the basket at 6'7".
Sure his blocked shots are fun, but nobody in the pros will be looking at
him as a shot blocker.

This "big man in waiting" thing is killing us.

A few days ago, it was, is Dan leaving?

Now it's this.

This is as critical for our future success as anything. Without help up front, our ceiling is limited.

And what is just as critical, is that we need that help NOW. Not 2 years from now.

Iverson and Butts can play the 4. But we've got to get Hassan out of the middle.

By my calendar today is March 31st. There's what, 7 months til the start of next season. That's a lot of time for roster building between now and then. I'm pretty confident we'll get a big man who can play before we tip-off 15/16 season.

In the meantime, Four McGlyn is a great addition to the team, something we don't have, a spot up three point shooter who can beat a zone defense. And make free throws to close out a game.
