Game #22: @ St. Joseph's - Wednesday @ 7pm

Unread post by ATPTourFan »

Rhody travels to Hagan Arena to face the St. Joseph's Hawks Wednesday night at 7pm. The game will be available via FREE live internet video stream (for laptops, etc) and via the A10 app (works on iPhones, iPads, etc), and of course, B101 over the air and via iHeart.

KenPom sees this as a 63% chance of a win for Rhody and predicts a 59-56 score.

The Hawks struggle offensively and are ranked just 254th compared to Rhody at 214. Defensively, nobody does it better in the A10 than the Rams, and the Hawks own the 7th best defense in the Atlantic 10. Click here for a great visual of A10 offensive and defensive efficiency.

Dan Hurley has never beaten St. Joe's since arriving in Kingston. The Rams dropped both games last season by close margins and were destroyed on Hawk Hill during the roster-challenged first year of the Hurley Era.

Bembry can have the game of his life, I don't care. Manage the rest of the team- and the conditions of a second straight road game- and Rhody can win. I hate that this game, with the team's current injury management situation, comes only 3 days after the last one. I like Demery and Newkirk, but they are a notch below the Rhode Island freshmen. Wilson is a serviceable veteran player. Brown and Miles have their moments. St. Joe's has been hurt all season by the absence of Ndao and Lodge. They're not a deep team but are tough at home. Then again, so was Richmond.

I don't hate St. Joes. It's Martelli. He's a good coach and a funny guy, but he's got something on the refs. They love him.

The only problem Dan has, is that he rides the refs so hard, he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt a lot of times. It backfires on him.

Ace, how is Martelli with the refs? Is he a screamer, or is he a charmer? I would guess the latter, and if so, I can see why he gets the calls at home, right or wrong.

Richmond's tough at home, St. Joe's tough at home. How come no one says URI is tough at home. URI has one loss at home; ST. Joe's two and Richmond three.

When T Mack was a senior by sons treated me to a holiday gift by flying back and forth from Hartford on a Saturday to see the Rams play the Hawks on the Hill (philly cheese steak was included). Rams were up by three at halftime playing well. Martelli walks off the court with an arm around one of the refs. Needless to say, the foul discrepancy was quite obvious for the last twenty minutes. We've won on the road and will win again on Wednesday. Go Rhody!

I think URI was tough at home until the CFL meltdown and the two years before this. It looks like we are tough at home again.

The quality was especially good for the Fordham game. Of course it came from the Fordham network. So the better question would be is the St. joes streaming network any good. I think it's good.
I was able to stream the Fordham game on my Apple TV! That's what I'm gonna do Wednesday night :)

Anyways, we got a game on wednesday. I think we will have something for Joes this year. The team is ignited and the defense is going to shut the hawks down. A win on wednesday will really give an added push to the cheers for this team when they get back home. A win on wednesday and we can welcome home our 1st place Rhody Rams!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately Cox doesn't have CBSSports in HD. Also the semis in Brooklyn are slated for CBSSPORTS too

Always tough playing road games, especially against a team who we haven't beaten the past two years, along with a Top 3, maybe 2 player in the conference in Bembry.

St. Joseph's head coach Phil Martelli

On URI: They're absolutely, certifiably relentless. It starts from the sideline, and Danny doesn't let anybody play that's not going to be hyper-focused. They go after the ball. The GW game, they didn't have any right to win that game and then Buchanan dives for a loose ball in the middle of the lane, they get a loose ball back that banged around four times. The Fordham game, Matthews and Biruta banged into each other and they still got two more attempts at the rim. It's just a relentlessness. I don't know what their practices look like, but it has to look like hand-to-hand combat on every play.

On Wednesday's match-up: I just finished watching four games. I say it tongue and cheek but I just hope that we can complete enough dribbles so we don't look bad.
Nice of him to say, but why do I feel like I am being buttered up?

I think Martelli is almost being serious. He's not thrilled with his team this year and likely knows that Hurley's defensive pressure isn't exactly their cup of tea.

Why do I get the feeling that he's ALREADY subtly telling the refs that we play like cage fighters?

I remember that too Neil.

Whatever Martelli said to that ref, changed the entire game in the 2nd half. They started calling everything on us, and nothing on them.

It's not the first time that's happened.

Maybe Dan should try and play nice like that. I doubt it though.

Cheese Wiz is disgusting. Nachos with Cheese Wiz=more disgusting.

Loved the old Casey's nachos. Mozzeralla cheese is the only way to go. And it's better for you, compared to that other crap.

Jawohl, Herr Commendant!

Rambone, I know it's trendy, but, I HATE anything with cumin, or anything that smells
and looks worse than something floating in a toilet in a public bathroom.
Plus all that green slimy crap. Crapimolie. I'd rather starve.
All that hot chlli dreck. No thanks. Burns your stomach lining.
It's all very unappealing to me.
You should watch Guy Fieri on Food Network.
He manages to turn everything into Mexican, or hot stuff.
I'm a meat and potatoes guy, along with Italian food. I cook every
day of the week, so I have to shake up the menu.
My daughter makes that Mexican stuff when I'm not around.
My grandkids like it. They're half Mexican, so there's that.

Haha Rod, as a fellow Italian I am totally with you on Italian for sure being the best, but don't judge Mexican food based on what we have up there in the Northeast! I realized shortly after moving to San Diego that for the first 24 years of my life I had never had ACTUAL Mexican food living in CT/RI. That stuff is American Mexican food.

Ok sorry, for further derailing the thread. I had to speak up!

I was in the Philly area for 2 years. My girl (at the time) made without a doubt the best cheesesteak sandwiches. I don't remember much about her, but I'll never forget the sandwiches (lol).

Was that when you played for the famous, Pottstown Firebirds?
For those who don't know:
"The Firebirds were perhaps best remembered as the subject of a 1970 NFL Films documentary Pro Football, Pottstown, Pa. which documented the ties between the minor league club, its players, and their hometown of Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Of particular note was the portrayal of the Firebirds' star quarterback, King Corcoran. "The King" was considered the "Poor Man's Joe Namath" and had stints on the New England Patriots, New York Jets, Denver Broncos and the Philadelphia Eagles before landing in Pottstown.

In 2000 NFL Films returned to Pottstown for an episode of their Lost Treasures series. Pottstown Revisited covered some surviving players reminiscing about their days on the team, remembered the town's relationship with the long-gone /football team, and filmed a 30-year player reunion."
