Syracuse self-imposes

Hmmm, I wonder why they decided to do this now?

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/syracuse-s ... ncaab.html

Maybe this is the reason: "Plagued by injuries, Syracuse has struggled to a 15-7 mark this season and was a longshot to make the NCAA tournament or NIT." Amazing how these schools get religion when they're having a lousy season and have nothing to lose. If you're in the BCS cartel, you're practically bulletproof.

Southern Miss did the same thing, so it's not exclusive to the Power 5 conference schools. Hopefully the NCAA can see through these phony bans when it comes time for discipline.

They are taking a beating for this and they deserve it. Something should be done about it - probably a rule that says you can't self-impose a ban for a season that has already started.

Gee. Whatever happened to the big UNC scandal?
Did they put Oglethorpe on probation for it, yet?
Talk about looking the other way. This mess was headlines,
and the corrupt NCAA isn't acting on it so long after it was discovered.

This is such a load of shit, Syracuse isn't going to the tourney this year so they decide to self-impose during a down year. I'm sure the NCAA will look the other way too.

Yep. Total bullshit. This cannot be the only year they are banned from post-season play.

They could also decide that schools couldn't self-impose to begin with. It's not much of a punishment if you can plan around it. Then again, it's the NCAA and it's all kind of murky and full of BS to begin with.

So their joke of a self-imposed penalty wasn't enough to spare themselves from the wrath of the NCAA. Jim Boeheim is suspended for the first nine ACC games next season and forced the program to vacate 108 wins.

vacating wins is the most hollow punishment ever. I do like that the NCAA actually suspended Boeheim as well as reduced scholarships though. Screw Syracuse.

Yes. He might not be able to coach in their powerhouse preseason games.

the suspension is for the first 9 ACC games not the first 9 games

CFL got to his precious 20 wins one year during the
Bonnie's welding scandal, with a forfeit.

I don't think 07-08 was one of the years, but we did beat them in that stretch.

I would be shocked if the coach does not resign.... After having read his recent book, it seems this is the course he/ll take, time to go Jim....

Yesterday, Boeheim refused to do his post-game press conference and sent out an assistant instead.

That game summary just depresses me. Daniels, Jimmy, Bitee, Seawright, Mbang, Ulmer, Cothran. Just a loaded team, and somehow did not make the tourney.

Per ESPN, Syracuse AD is out: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story ... university - They're also reporting on Sportscenter that Jim Boeheim will retire in three years, but they don't have a story up yet on the web.

The new AD will wash his/her hands of "the legend" regardless of fans' wrath.
You'll have the Bobby Knight/Joe Paterno backlash, but that too, will pass.

Can we leave Bobby Knight out of that trio?
BK was an a hole and a bully; but he didn't harbor a pedophile or blatantly cheat for decades

The reference is to firing a popular figure, regardless of what that person did. Note: You didn't see Gordie Chiesa's or Jerry D.'s name listed…..

Wow as a team we were 12-18 on threes
Bitee was a perfect 4-4 and Baron 6-9 for 10-13 for the starting guards on the road in front of 21,000 fans.
