My guess is that the manufacturer calls it that and the site just goes adopts that language automatically.

Just take the UNC and change it to URI. or the interlocking RI.

Good luck getting the ugly sweater thing done. I've found the selection of URI apparel to be severely lacking. For instance, if you want a hat you can't even get an on field or replica version of what the baseball team wears which seems like it should be some of the easiest apparel to produce.

I've seen you mention this idea a few times, and there's no reason not to do it. A student could go out with makeshift signs with big letters simply printed on paper and tape them to the poles. It'd take 20 minutes, tops. Of course, I can never find my car right away, either. Trying to manually count how many light posts I am away from the street is an exercise in futility.
