Do we pressure a team like this all over the court and bury them in the first 10 minutes of the game?

Re: Game #1 - vs. Pace - Friday, Nov. 14, 7pm
I didn't realize it until just now, but Pace is coached by Pat Kennedy, formerly of Iona, Florida State, Towson and a couple of other places. Wasn't he on Rhody's short list back in the '80s or '90s?

Be careful--Memphis got beat by a D II team last night. Big question is do you show our press tomorrow or Sunday or save it for Nebraska. I think we would be better off if Nebraska does not see it until game night.

Re: Game #1 - vs. Pace - Friday, Nov. 14, 7pm
I'd rather see us methodically pick Pace apart and win by 20 than play street ball and win by 50 due to our athleticism. This is a dress rehearsal, nothing more.

Re: Game #1 - vs. Pace - Friday, Nov. 14, 7pm
I guess it depends on how comfortable Hurley feels with where the team is at in the new style. If he is confident then maybe he doesn't show it too much, but if he feels they still need all the work they can get then they need to get some run with it.Billyboy78 wrote:Do we pressure a team like this all over the court and bury them in the first 10 minutes of the game?
My hunch is, with how few games we have before playing some big boys, they are going to need to play their style all the way to get more practice.

Reading koch's season preview, he says this is an exhibition.
Is it?
Does it count?

Re: Game #1 - vs. Pace - Friday, Nov. 14, 7pm
That's why I asked the question. We should win these first two games without showing much. Nebraska will have tape of us from last year and possibly the first two games this year. If we don't need to show it, then why would we. Hit Nebraska full court right off the bat. I'm sure they must know of Dan's plans to play pressure and an up tempo game, but until they see it on film, it will be more difficult to prepare for it. On the other hand, if it still needs a lot of work, as Adam said, Dan probably wants to see it in these two games. In other words, it could go either way...

Pace is definitely a regular season game. Not sure why Koch said it's an exhibition game. Unless it was like a deap pan writing joke of some sort. It doesn't count for RPI, so it practically is an exhibition.

Re: Game #1 - vs. Pace - Friday, Nov. 14, 7pm
Under NCAA rules, Division I teams are allowed to play two exhibition games in a season... Our exhibition games were against Manhattan and Harvard.
Therefore Pace is not an Exhibition game.
It will count against our record just like Metro State did last year. That was also not an Exhibition game.
However, it will not count towards our RPI calculation and no tournament committee will consider the game in their analysis.

I think it was when they hired Malone. A couple of years later Kennedy got hired at Fla St. Hasn't stuck anywhere

I thought I saw a post somewhere he did. Oh well. Then he owes us. Ha! I've been high on this guy through all the trials and tribulations. I hope he proves me right. It would change the game for us. But we still have the best team on paper in awhile. They just need to go out and kick some ass. And protect our home court. Go Rhody!rodfromcranston wrote:Hare never made All Rookie. Check Go Rhody.

Said the same thing to myself Rod, after seeing that segment. They made it seem like Albany was a "powerhouse", talking about how PC has challenged themselves right off the bat. We sound like homers, but it's almost like they do this intentionally.

I think the whole Pace DII situation is throwing the media for a loop here. If Bill Koch can make an honest mistake about the Pace game being the regular season opener, then anyone can.
Whatever, it is the de-facto exhibition in the eyes of the NCAA Committee.

First game of the season, people- we made it!
Every player on this team, 1 through 14, contributes something on or off the court to the program. Hurley loves coaching this group, and fans should have a lot of fun watching them. They're young, which brings some possible headaches. They're likely to lose a game they should win but hopefully also be able to pull out some surprises. Enjoy the ride.

I thought the manhattan & harvard games were "scrimmages" because no fans were allowed.
Whatever...walks like a duck...
The old exhibitions were always against foreign teams or d-2 schools.
This setup is probably better.
Are many a-10 schools playing D-2 games that count against the max allowed?

Re: Game #1 - vs. Pace - Friday, Nov. 14, 7pm
Info on pace from their website...
The Setters look to build on a year in which they ended the season with a final record of 7-19, 5-15 amongst the NE-10 Conference.
Forward Jaylen Mann was in influential part of last season's offensive attack, averaging 8.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. He was also second on the team with 18 blocks.
This season, The Setters add a talented group of newcomers to the squad. Junior Kyle Pearson comes to Pleasantville after a two year stint with Fairleigh Dickinson University where he shot 42.2 percent from the field, averaging 3.4 points. Another transfer, junior Shelton Mickell, joins Pace following time at Central Connecticut University during which he recorded 40 points, 12 assists, and nine steals. Finally a senior transfer from Monmouth University, Khalil Brown, is expected to provide the inside presence for Pace, earning significant time at center. During his Monmouth career Brown shot 46.0 percent from the field while averaging 3.0 points and 0.7 rebounds per game.

I liked the style they tried to play, some pressure 1/2 court defense, tried to push the ball, trouble making shots, no three point threat, long droughts of no score, too much stand around on the perimeter, no player movement, lots of missed free throws......

Tonite, looking for all of these; better free throw%, using defense to force the action, take away what Pace wants to do, Gil not in foul trouble, contributions from the new players, make some threes, something outstanding fron Jordan, most importantly a continuation of the growth in Martin, EC, point guard play that shows DH that the position is solidly in someone's hands, bench contributions......win by 20.....

Can't wait to see how athletic we really are and how effective our athleticism will be. How fluid we are.
Earl is really intriguing. Hoping Ifeanyi, Jarelle, Biggie, and Matt have all really improved. That would be pleasant. We'll probably see nothing but good out of everyone in this game though. Also I'm wondering how much of an effect that new strength and conditioning guy has had on everyone.
Two hours!! Woo! Hopefully the cox stream doesn't suck
