Actually Calhoun planted him here and then dug him back up out of the ground and moved him back to CT when his Calhoun's plan was carried out.

Career-wise, yes, but he never moved from CT. When I talked to Tommy, at one of the scrimmage or season ticketholder things, he said he was still living in the Tolland/Vernon, CT area. We chatted about it because I had recently moved here from South Windsor. He said commuting from there was fine. I guess if you planned on being in Storrs the next year, it would be...

I have a feeling that after Dan wins 3 or 4 national championships at UConn that he and Andrea will retire here in Rhode Island and Dan will coach his last 4 or 5 years here. I think he feels his work isn't finished here. He's 51 now, so they come back when he's 56 and he retires when he's 60. And now, I'll wait for Rhody15 to call me an idiot.

What could happen is that when Dan retires he moves back to RI so Andrea can beach it at her hearts content, and Dan could become an advisor to our program like Calhoun did at UConn.

Dan might give up coaching but he will always be involved with basketball, he's the ultimate hoop junkie.

Tom Penders seems to have liked his URI days. Even later bought a house nearby and went to Rhody games after he retired.

Tom didnt really like recruiting that much preferred the beach lol

Remember he won with Malone's players, changed from a half court offense to up tempo, and the rest is history.

Made 50k a year here and left when Texas came calling with 500k a year.

Pretty sure KG was recruited by Malone. Kenny Green was a sophomore on the 88 team, so was a freshman (and a redshirt freshman as he was injured early in his first year) in Penders' first season.

From our very own Scott Brand...........

SB: Who actually recruited you to play for the University of Rhode Island?
KG: During my senior year of high school I had a teammate who was a McDonald’s All-American and every college coach came to visit him instead of me including former URI coach, Brendan Malone.
During Brendan’s recruiting visit, his wife Maureen accompanied him. And on their way home, she told him she preferred me rather than the McDonald’s All American.
I heard that she told Brendan, ‘I like the big guy with the glasses (Kenny Green). He rebounds with two hands, he is physical, he plays hard the entire game, and he does all the dirty work. I am not interested in the other kid. All he does is shoot the ball.”
So Brendan, who has always had respect for his wife’s recruiting acumen, decided to change course and recruit me instead. I owe Maureen a debt of gratitude. As a coaches’ wife, she went on many recruiting trips with Brendan and that’s how she got to know the game. And honestly, if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have ended up at Rhode Island.
I like the big guy with the glasses (Kenny Green). He rebounds with two hands, he is physical, plays hard the entire game, and does all the dirty work.” Maureen Malone, wife of Brendan Malone who recruited Kenny Green

Fresh off his 41 point G league game Thursday and his contract conversion to NBA standard contract , Jeff Dowtin played 14 minutes tonight for
the 76ers and contributed 11 points, 5 reb , 2 Assists , 0 Turnovers in their win . Also he was 4-5 fg 2-3 3ptfg and 1-1 ft. He looked very confident
on the floor . Hopefully the 76ers will find playing time for him going forward . Most of his minutes were in the 4th quarter and were meaningful minutes , though the the 76ers had a double digit lead when Jeff entered , the game was far from decided at that point and they increased the lead
with him on the court . Jeff is doing URI proud and for my hometown team which is awesome .

Imagine having an NBA point guard on your roster and playing him off the ball so a sub 30% shooter could jack up 6 a game.

That all stemmed from the deal to make Cox the coach in waiting.

Mistake by both Dan and URI they both share the blame for that one.

Also likely the reason why Fatts had free reign as a PG and relegate JD to off guard was to keep Fatts from leaving after Dan left.

Just another classic URI fuck up.

I wonder what Dan thinks about DC as the "coach in waiting" now? Like, does he look back and think he whiffed on that and he's just not cut out to be an HC, or, does he think it coulda worked out if (something...)?
