URI loses first game in OT
Good to have Senior Lara Gaspar 6'1" back for this year after sitting out last year injured. Her 10 points and 8 rebounds were a big welcome back contribution
Briana Thomas, freshman guard, had a nice game and demonstrated good potential
Samantha Tabakman, wow. Didn't even start the game, just a freshman, 6'3", leads the team with 9 rebounds and in her first game ever for URI blocks 6 shots, tying the all time URI women's record.
Team looks much improved over last year. Will be times when 4 freshmen will be on the floor at the same time with Gaspar.

If Gaspar, Shoniker, Sessions and Boone all entered Rhody in the same year, they woyld be a hell of a team.

Sadly, that's not the case.

Good coaching would have given Rhody a win. On a inbound pass play the ball was given to a poor foul player rather than to a good foul shooter. Making a one and one rather than missing made the difference .

I hate to criticize the coach, but....when you have a 3 point lead with a few seconds left, you do not let the opposing team even attempt a 3 point shot. The players should have been told this. Either give them an open lane to the basket or foul them before they attempt the 3. To allow a team to tie a game with a 3 pointer with 3 seconds left in the game is unacceptable at any level, men's, women's or children's.

A missed free throw by Gaspar ended up being huge....we were up 3 and that would have made it 4 with around 12 seconds left....and the CCSU shooter made a lucky three which hit off the backboard and in for the tying basket with around 3 seconds to go...

...agree with Billyboy....the Rams should have fouled in that situation.

CCSU might actually be a good team. They beat UMass by 9 last night.
