Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
Frink, already? We know about Castro.
Anyone else we'd know or may have been involved with?
Forget the Richmond kids. Nobody is sitting out two years
to transfer within the conference.
What's happening at Indiana? Crean is losing players left and right.

I put Frink on the list just for you, rod. He's had a couple of solid seasons.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
I was the only one here who thought we should give him a look.
He signed up to play for Richard Pitino, and he left.
Did have a couple of decent seasons at FIU.
I lost track of time and thought he was only a freshman. Ugh!
He was in Kyle Anderson's class at St. Anthony's.

With all of the looming transfers and decommits due to coaching changes, there should be some tasty morsels out there for Dan and co. to choose from.

If we want another X or a combo guard/wing that's a known commodity, why not?
We can always recruit 4 year guys for that position for 2015-16.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
Transfers are a must for teams like us. Look at Dayton. We just need good ones.
They have the 4 year talent blended well with the transfers. = sweet sixteen.
Even the kid for SDSU was a transfer from Wash St. Get the right one and look like a genius.

Transfers are a part of college basketball, esp for a program like ours. Just have to make the right calls.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
Frink averaged 10/6 as a freshman under Pitino, but those numbers were down a bit this year. Wouldn't be shocked to see Frink end up in Minnesota.ramfan85 wrote:Do we really want a "fink" in our program?
Off topic, I looked at Minnesota's season and they had a sneaky nice year in Pitino's first season. They're still alive in the NIT (playing SMU tonight), and they return their 3 or 4 best players. I'll go out on a limb and predict the Gophers will be a tourney team next year.

Crean and IU, some NY papers have Mike Woodson being canned with the Knicks in the Phill Jackson hire. He returns to IU as HC......

Max Hooper, St. John's
D'Von Campbell, Rutgers
Both have already played for two schools each, but Hooper will reportedly graduate in May and have two years of eligibility left.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
Hooper is an interesting case. He only played 9 minutes a game for St. John's, but when they were being blown out in NIT by Robert Morris, he got a chance and hit 6 three-pointers. Great shooter, but not athletic enough to create his own shot.ace wrote:Max Hooper, St. John's

And he will help anyone's APR, as he started his career at Harvard and, if it's true he's graduating, then he did that in 3 years.

I think he was offered by URI at some point. He tore his ACL in January.

Ware was red-shirted, played some early but was clearly not healthy yet. This move was rumored all season; sometimes a fresh start is a good thing.Rhody4012016 wrote:I heard it was also because he played a limited amount of games this season.

Thanks, BFC!
That makes it much eaiser to figure out.
Seems like 80% of these are 2 stars.
I don't see anyone who jumps out at me, but
I'm not familiar with most of these players.

Here is Goodman's list.
Hare is listed as a mid-season transfer, but this shouldn't be considered as new information.

I feel like it is hard for us to get a good transfer because nobody is looking at uri as the grass being greener. But must hope.

Harris wants to go to a school closer to his Indiana home. It seems that is the case with many of these transfers-they want to be closer to home.
We are at a real disadvantage on this, not many schools in New England and slim pickings from Vermont and Maine

Three BU players are going to transfer, including soph guard Maurice Watson, who averaged 13pts 7assts last season (both led the team). The other two players are Malik Thomas and James Kennedy, both forwards.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
Watson can play at a higher level than BU.
For a school like URI I think the more appealing transfers to me are guys that are playing up at a lower level and want to be more challenged, versus high major guys who couldn't cut it and want to play down. Feel like we have more success with that former group, a la Abdul Fox.

An interesting one to watch, could be Jalen Hudson, who was on our list this year, but chose Virginia Tech. Now with another two transferring out, and a new coach, Maybe??? Hoping. He would help our SG spot.

Re: NCAA Transfers, 2014 Edition
And no '14 signed recruits for St. John's?
They have 7 scholarship players returning- which is still more than Rhode Island's 5 returning in 12-13, though. But with no coaching change or similar reason, that's kind of crazy.

Totally off topic but the NCAA 3 pt contest is on ESPN right now...Akeem Richmond in the semis. Billy Baron eliminated in first round. Richmond really changed/improved his stroke, has a much better form in his shooting. I hated his shot at URI, even when it went in.
