Will there be something like an expansion draft for Pitt? Like, every other team will get to protect a certain number...?

How good can these transfers be? They went 0-18.

URI doesn’t need a transfer with the last scholly. Either a 5th year Sr or a top JUCO (no more Ryan P level).
I eould prefer a 5th year who has proven he can play D1 in college. Other than the Top 5-10 JUCOs the rest are a major gamble.

I forget what the deal is with transferring within the conference.

I don’t think it applies to 5th year players.

The rule is that you have to sit out an additional year so it never happens.

yeah, for regular transfers within conference pretty sure its 4 semesters

think grad transfers are no penalty, regardless of conference

So does anybody have any idea whether recruiting is on hold pending the hiring of a new coach? Or is Cox going ahead on the likelihood he’ll get the job?

I would imagine Cox is just maintaining contact with current recruits... I can't see him spending time on recruiting '19 recruits with everything going on. We're approaching a dead period soon too.

All of the staff that is still here and is under contract will continue working until they are told to stop. They would under any circumstances because they are being paid, but especially since Cox is a candidate for the head job the work they are doing now will likely impact them going forward. They are not in wait-and-see mode.

Why does that worry you?
If URI uses its last scholarship it will probably be on a 5th year Sr or a top juco.
The HC will be in place in 2 weeks.

The new coach will need to quickly assess the two bigs who didn't play, and then get involved with some transfers.

Assuming the new coach is Cox, it will be interesting to see how he regards Tertsea. He was the recruiter on him. It is possible that a different coach could see a player in a different way. Of course, in the limited time I've seen Tertsea I'm not sure what he can do at a D1 level beyond being tall. That is obviously only based on a very limited sample, though.

Tertsea looks to have zero basketball skills to me. I think Layssard is somebody he could work with, transform his body a little bit. He has some skills.

There is a thread on this in the Main Keaney Blue Section - It was about 3 weeks old so I just bumped it to the top. Better covered there where much has been discussed already that you might find interesting

So, with Adams gone, we now have 2 open schollies and if Layssard or Tertsea decide to transfer, we have 3. It'll be interesting to see what Cox decides to do with them.

Still a lot of transfers out there. And if no one else decides to leave it will be a very nice roster anyway

I know. I'm excited about the possibilities. Still some 18s out there, JCs, 5th years and transfers....lots of options.

I think we both agreed on Terrell Brown on seeing him at St Andrews/AAU, and neither of us were extremely high on his ability, but he is 6-10, had a solid year in ACC, even though on a very bad team, and has obvious local ties and ties to URI, wonder if he would be worth a shot if he is interested.

I haven't seen him play in a couple of years, so it's hard for me to judge. I didn't like him much then though. Yep, Vic's nephew...or grandson?

Although Martin can play the two and Dana can play the 3. But I agree, we need at least 1 more. We will be a bigger team next year, that's for sure.

I believe Coach Cox said they plan to use the available scholarship this year. That was before Adams was released. I would think now URI will use both scholarships this year. At least one on a 5th year transfer.

This is interesting. Jermaine Harris MVP, Amir Harris First Team, Brendon Adams Fourth Team.

WOW. I am surprised that Amir was ranked so much higher than Brendon. Matt BaLanc was also ranked higher (Third Team).

Jermaine beat out two McDonalds All Americans (that are going to Kentucky & Maryland) for POY.

Brendan’s team sucked this year. They lost several players. That probably hurt him a lot.

Keith Dambrot picked up another commitment today, a first-team all Ohio guard (and all-name team nominee), Sincere Carry. Carry is a 3* guard who had received interest from Penn State and West Virginia. They've also signed three 3* big men in 6-11 C Dylan Swingle, 6-9 F Austin Rotroff and 6-11 F Gavin Bizeau. The fifth and sixth commits in the class are 6-2 G Brandon Wade from Ann Arbor, MI and 6-7 F Amari Kelly from Hempstead, NY via Meadowcreek HS in Norcross, GA.

I'm no recruiting expert, but that seems like a formidable class, especially combined with Williams and Lewis, who were their two best players this year as a freshman and sophomore, respectively. Plus they will add transfers in Craig Randall from Memphis who will have two years, Frankie Hughes from Mizzou who has three years, and Marcus Weathers who averaged 10 ppg as a freshman at Miami-Ohio and will have three years left.

Assuming no more defections we have a really solid core for two years. I think it is going to be particularly tough in 2019 given the two more years of Dowtin and Cyril. I would consider 1 high level recruit in 2019 to be a win but would not be surprised if there is a role player / 4 year player class like the CT and Akele class.
