2015 Constitution (PA) G/F Ahmad Gilbert has received an offer from Rhode Island.

This from a couple of years ago:
"Ahmad Gilbert , 2015 SF from Constitution - Similar to Jones, the rising sophomore has an immense amount of athleticism. He runs the floor very well at 6-foot-4 and has a niche on the wing where he likes to attack the rim. He scores, but also sees his teammates and is very versatile. While his jumper is not consistent yet and his handle still needs some improvement, Gilbert plays a similar game to Pennsylvania native and Fairfield incoming freshman Marcus Gilbert . With a high-major motor and a knack for scoring the ball at the cup, the 2015 product is already hearing from Villanova and Temple."

He's ranked #71 on this list from the class of '15, yet he's only been offered by us and Hofstra...strange.

He's visited Seton Hall recently, and they seem to be the frontrunner.
3 point shooter with length, could be just what we need.
Maybe grade problems are keeping such a highly rated player's offers
down?

Would love for Ace to weigh in here on Gilbert. She has her ear to the ground when it comes to Philly hoops.

If Gilbert is a 3 point shooting perimeter player, how could he
remind Finn of Hassan?
Hassan is mainly down low, until he develops his shot and handle.
And Gilbert is 3 inches shorter than Hassan.

As for targets beyond 2014, Flinn has a name for Rhody fans to learn.

“I know they’re starting to hit the Philly area, I keep hearing URI being named, especially with a kid named Ahmad Gilbert who’s only a junior and pretty much a Hassan Martin clone,” he said. “I found it really interesting that URI was one of the first schools to come out of his mouth.”

That was the most positive thing I've read on us since the season
began. Nice to see an outsider's view of our recruiting.
He missed on saying Hare's scholarship gives us three.

a Hassan Martin clone.

Oooh! Another lefty! We need a wing to stretch the floor.
Could be the answer.
Love the name of the school is Constitution, and the article says
Construction!

They were in to see him play about a week ago. I've not personally seen him play but can say that, in general, I've heard Rhode Island mentioned more frequently in Philly recruiting talk.

If we get both Gilbert and Cochran, we could have EC, Hassan, Aaman, Gilbert and Cochran on the floor all at the same time. What would be the significance in that?

I don't know if we really need height. Remember what CFL used to say: "You can't teach shortness."

We actually could do it now with EC, Hassan, Aaman, Kemp and Younkofski.....although probably not. Powell leaving also hurt our shot at an all lefty lineup.

Ahmad Gilbert did most of his damage in the final 20 minutes of the game. The 2015 wing from Constitution scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half, staying with the mid-range and outside shot. Gilbert holds offers from Hofstra, Rhode Island and Drexel and has been drawing interest from Monmouth.

Will fit right in as he is left handed
Good shooter from 15-20 feet for a big man
Glibert missed a 3 point shot that would have won the League Championship against MLK who is coached by former URI Ram Sean Colson. Solson transferred from uri, played a year of JC then went to UNC Charlotte. Played one year in the NBA with both Houston and Atlanta befor having a long career overseas.

A very nice tribute to Fran Hamilton, an assistant coach at Constitution (Ahmad Gilbert's high school), who passed away this past weekend; Fran was only 31 years old. He was also involved in the Philly Pride AAU program, which DeAndre Hunter is a part of.

2015 small forward Ahmad Gilbert of Constitution (PA) has his best days ahead of him. Long and lanky, "J.R." did a great job of creating space, utilizing shot selection in his mid-range and outside game and being patient with his shot. As he was invited to the camp days before it began, the sleeper proved to be worth the invitation. Still extremely skinny and not developed physically, his upside is high. As he is maturing more, Gilbert will likely end up in the Atlantic-10 where a school can sculpt him for four years and have themselves an all-conference player. Rhode Island, Hofstra and Quinnipiac had him on campus in late June. Most schools in the Atlantic-10 have inquired about him, but his performance at Reebok and Peach Jam could result in a stock boost by July's end.

Reebok Classic...

Ahmad Gilbert, 2015 G, Constitution (Penn.)
At 6-foot-5, Gilbert showed that he can do a bit of everything in the morning session. In his first game of the day, Gilbert was consistently converting on quality looks, finishing with 21 points.

Corey Evans says he has a Villanova offer:
2016 Team Final forward JR Gilbert was tremendous in a Thursday morning session as the lefty has really stretched out his offensive skillset where he made a few catch and shoot 3 balls, made drive and finishes through contact off his left, and made some of the hustle plays in the middle portions of the floor. I had questions about his level, but with a Villanova offer in hand, Jay Wright and staff seem to be one of the smarter bunches in getting on the Final forward before he blows up further this summer and fall.

He's also added offers from South Florida and Duquense.

Ahmad Gilbert, 2015 SF, Constitution: Gilbert has transformed himself from a combo forward to a perimeter player in a short amount of time. He has improved his ball handling greatly and looks comfortable on the perimeter. Those looking for a wing who can score on both the interior and from the perimeter are going to take a long look at the Philadelphia area product. He has just begun to scratch the surface of his potential and could be a big riser in this class.

I like this guy, a lot, and yes, the Philly thing has a lot to do with it. He was a late invite to the Breakout Classic and then just played great. He was a noticeable snub for the all-star game at the end of it. The talk around him is very positive right now- much improved but can still get better, which is exactly where you want your recruits. From the scouts and guys who have played against him, his ball handling is the most obvious improvement, and he seems to be understanding how good he can be and what it takes to get there. Murray's been tracking him, and Hurley watched him in Philly. Gilbert attends a regular charter school in Philly, almost a throwback to the days before prep schools and basketball academies, so the regular season competition he's faced is different (more EC/Hassan than Jared/Jarvis). The shorthand description on him has become long, scoring machine. He's playing at Peach Jam this live period. Gilbert's with Team Final, with, among others, Levan Alston, Donte Divincenzo (Villanova), LaMarr Kimble, Trey Lowe, and Malachi Richardson (Syracuse).

Agree completely about Gilbert. And it is great that URI was on Gilbert early on which is often a significant advantage to ultimately landing a player.
In the "what have you done for me lately" category just consider Gilbert's latest game at the highly competitive Peach Jam in North Augusta (where Dan Hurley is along with the majority of D1 Coaches and Top Assistants).
In a 67-59 win yesterday (Friday) by Team Final against Mac Erwin Fire (led by highly recruited Jalen Brunson) Gilbert came off the bench and played 11 minutes. Believe it or not in 11 minutes his stat line was:
6-8 fg
8 rebounds to lead the team (Donte Divinciezo, Lamarr Kimble and Trey Lowe each had 4 rebounds)
1 Turnover
1 Assist
4 Steals to tie for the team lead with Kimble who played 30 minutes
12 points ( 1 point shy of team lead of 13 points by Lowe who played 24 minutes

This kid as explosive potential
On Thursday in a 2 point loss to The Travelers, Gilbert had 12 rebounds and 7 points while playing only 16 minutes. The next highest rebounds for Team Final was 3 by Levan Alston who played 28 minutes.
Big Game today at noon when Team Final takes on Oakland Soldiers who are led by the Top Player in the Class of 2015, Ivan Rabb.
Bottom Line, I Would love to see Gilbert in Keaney Blue.

Gilbert's another guy, like Reuter, who has cut his list as he's starting to attract more attention. The above comparison to Hassan as a player continues to make little sense, but I do see similarities in their development. Right now, he's not the best player they're after, but he's intriguing. He really stood out on a stacked and talented AAU team during the July live period.

His Team Final teammate Lamarr Kimble committed to St. Joe's today.

Have to like this- versatile and getting better. This is from the Villanova camp in June, and now I'm done hyping Gilbert. For now.

Ahmad Gilbert (2015/Constitution)
The 6-6, 190 pound wing had a very strong weekend, leading his Constitution team to a 4-0 record. Gilbert displayed a consistent 3-point shot, and once defenses tried to take that away, he was able to use some nice pump fakes and hesitation dribbles to get into the lane. He finished these drives with an array of crafty finishes. He also flashed a nice high-post game, including a Dirk Nowitzki-style one legged fadeaway. Defensively, Constitution’s lack of size forced Gilbert to the interior, where he showed his ability to defend the post and protect the rim. He was able to use his length to force steals in all areas of the floor.

Committed to George Mason.

Good luck at GMU and in the A10, JR!

Nice get for GMU. Now we can follow him, like other
recruits who went elsewhere in the A-10.
Always interesting to see how they turn out.
