This is a good one. It should be posted in Congress and every rep. should slap it daily, like the ND football team.

I think the top 4 are pretty set, as are the bottom 3. Everything else (St. Joe's, Richmond, Dayton, George Mason, Rhode Island, George Washington), who knows?

I agree with this. All of those teams in the middle could finish in any order. There tends to be more luck than people realize with the coin flip games.

Which is why I love Brad Stevens' approach to games and winning/losing.

I was thinking the same, Blue Man. Bill Koch makes a very convincing argument in 140 characters though.

He hasn't played ball in 2 years & has never played a game in the A-10.

Not naming him in a pre-season poll is understandable and warranted. However, if he acheives his potential & makes the impact everyone expects he will, I'm sure he'll be well accounted for in any post-season polls.

Yeah, we love him, but I'm sure it's not the norm to name players who have sat out to pre-season teams. He'll get his.

I am actually a little surprised by this. The Third team is not full of world beaters. I'd be surprised if he didn't have a better year than a guy like Jerrell Wright or Jordair Jett. Heck, Andrew Wiggins made first team pre-season All-America and he hasn't even played a minute of college ball. In any event, pre-season teams are pretty worthless.

agree with GBG, Jordair Jett? Please, he is easily the most overrated guy in the league. A nice utility player but not an all conference type. Hopefully this motivates Gil, I don't see how it's possible he is not among the best 5-6 big guys in the league.

Yeah, who cares about pre-season. It's all about where you stand when the season turns to post-season and after.

Gilvydas will be all-conf.

Bingo. Pre-Season polls mean nothing as far as I'm concerned. No need for everyone to be up in arms over this "snub". Gil hasn't played in a single A10 game, can't really fault anyone for passing him over in favor of players who participated last season, regardless of how they stack up to him talent-wise.

Biruta already has to be one of the most motivated players in the country, coming off the year sitting out and the Rutgers stuff. It's going to be fun! If you're talking about top 15 players in the conference, Biruta's there.

Jordair Jett would be a legitimate choice for the all-name team, though.

If URI finishes 8th this year and 4th the following year then that's a great leap. Hurley was a great hire but this is not an easy job.

The original top ten list for Terrell had OSU, which got interpreted by some as Ohio State, but Oklahoma State was there. But moving on... I don't think this has been linked yet, but there's some good stuff in here. I like Aaman a lot as a competitor, but I wasn't sure how they saw him developing, so this is good. Also interesting coming out of media day, from a few sources, is the role that's being put out there for Martin, which may be less than what some were anticipating. Even though Matthews is in the process of a position change, I think Martin will have the most adjustments to make- he's had AAU experience but only played one year of varsity.

http://www.nycbuckets.com/2013/10/nine- ... media-day/

It's all good information, but here's the URI part. It's an interesting take, as most seem to focus on the number of guards on the roster:

Is there space in Rhode Island’s crowded frontcourt?
Dan Hurley’s squad is arguably the Atlantic 10′s most physically imposing team. Four Rams stand 6’8″ or taller, and that is not including freshman Hassan Martin, who might spend much of his first Rhody season tethered to the bench. “We have several forwards who we feel can play the 4 or the 5 and be very productive,” claims Hurley. “We couldn’t say that last year.” A familiarity with Hurley’s system helps these bigs; Jordan Hare and Mike Aaman earned immediate minutes last season, Ifeanyi Onyekaba sat out but practiced with the squad, and Gilvydas Biruta, who also sat out and practiced, played under Hurley at St. Benedict’s. Even Hurley commented on the ease with which drills began in late September, joking, “Dealing with me every day now in practice isn’t a cold shower.” It remains to be seen which of the four will earn the majority of minutes — Hurley mentioned that while Onyekaba has been the best forward in practice the last several days, the other three have evolved offensive tools and offer URI’s backcourt a target in the post. Aaman could be the first to emerge because of his rebounding prowess; Aaman was the only Rhody to grab more than 10% of the squad’s misses and proved difficult to move once he camped in the lane. Hurley’s forceful inflection when discussing Aaman indicates the soph’s worth to the team: “Mike could only score over his right shoulder last year, but now he has a counter and can score over either. He’s also added 20 pounds while lowering his body fat so he is a valuable guy who should be ready to contribute in a very competitive position.”

That's disappointing, about Martin, if that's the case.
Only having seen him in practice, he seems to play within himself.
Very aggressive on the boards, and fundamentally sound. Nice little shot, too.
Big men get into foul trouble, and I can see him coming in and
making his case for playing time.
I think he'll be a real star before he's graduated.
He made leaps and bounds throughout his senior year, and was
huge in post season competition.

Yeah, it's just talk right now. You'd have to think he gets a chance to earn his minutes, and he certainly rose to the level of his competition in those games after the season, like the Jordan regional.

There was also that comment from Hurley, something along the lines of "there will be good players on the team that don't play much this year". Could have been what he was eluding to a little. I don't think it takes anything away from what Martin can become in his time here though. The kid seems to be the real deal.

having seen Hassan and reading the media/coaches comments i can see this, he isnt ready to play at the 3 (ballhandling and shooting needs work) and the 4 spot is very crowded. he will be a beast for us, for sure, but it may be a year away. not a bad disappointment in the grand scheme of things, we finally have a frontcourt!!!!!

DH biggest problem is playing time for all members of the team. All of his players come from teams where they were the stars and they have not learned how to be a bench warmers .It is a nice problem to have but it can lead to complications.
