Providence's Ricky Ledo scored nine points in his Las Vegas summer league debut on Saturday while helping the Dallas Mavericks to a 76-73 victory over the Sacramento Kings at the Cox Pavilion.
Ledo came off the Dallas bench and played 22:31. He was 4-for-5 from the field and 1-for-2 at the free throw line. Ledo grabbed three rebounds, had an assist and committed three turnovers.
Ledo, who left Providence College after one year without ever playing a minute for the Friars, was a second round pick (43rd overall) by the Milwaukee Bucks. He was later traded to the Mavericks. Ledo and the Mavericks will play Charlotte on Sunday night at 6 p.m.
Also on Saturday night, South Kingstown's Erik Murphy played in his first summer league with Chicago as the Bulls rolled to an 81-67 victory over Memphis.
Murphy started for the Bulls and scored six points. In 18:46 of action, the second round pick was 3-for-9 from the field and 0-for-6 on 3-pointers. He had an assist and a turnover. In an interesting statistic, Murphy committed 10 fouls. The NBA summer leagues play with a 10-foul limit.

I can't believe they cut him. He is averaging a whole 0.2 PPG and has a -22 PER

yes it was surprising.Andrew wrote:"an unexpected turn"? Right.
It was expected Dallas would simply let Bernard James go who is on a 10 Day Trial (versus flat out cutting Ledo) to make room for Amare Stoudamire.
Can't say much for Ledo.

Re: Ledo in the NBA
I mean, he got $1.3M guaranteed for his two years with the Mavericks. Given the issues he was have getting NCAA eligibility - most likely because of his own actions in high school and possibly "helpful" advice, yes - I'm not sure he made a bad decision to declare for the draft. I do think that your larger point is probably that they steered him wrong from the beginning, which I would definitely agree with. His draft stock slid because of all the noise about the NCAA eligibility issues and what not.Ramulous wrote:Ledo and his advisors have made many poor decisions.....

Re: Ledo in the NBA
The bigger point is that Ledo is a big boy now, 22 years old. He has had the opportunity that the NBADL provides plus, preseason camp with the Mavericks, plus time with the NBA Mavs. He has not been able to prove himself NBA worthy yet. Dallas was not able to trade him.
Maybe in the long run getting with a lower level NBA team will let him get some Playing time - but he did not earn much PT with the Mavs.

Re: Ledo in the NBA
If you search really hard on the ole Internet, you can find some people speculating that maybe Philly would be interested in claiming him, given that they like any young talent. He has two non-guaranteed years left on his contract at minimum salary, meaning any team that did put in a claim wouldn't be on the hook for his salary. But it's not a great sign anyway that the Mavs had him on that cushy deal and still decided to move on. It seems more likely that he doesn't get claimed, and he's on the NBADL or international basketball portion of his career.ramster wrote:The bigger point is that Ledo is a big boy now, 22 years old. Re: Ledo in the NBA
PC people arguing is he's "a real Friar"?
Well, he attended school, so he'd be as much a Friar
as any other student who dropped out after a year.
Is he a basketball Friar? He practiced with the team.
So did Austin.
One and dones play for a year, so the followers can claim him.
Not sure on Ledo.
