Practice for Italy Trip
I know someone posted when the practices start somewhere, but I can't find it. It must be pretty soon. Does anybody know, and also will the practices be open to the public?

Re: Practice for Italy trip
The Athletic Dept is looking into feasibility for an open team skills session just before they leave for Italy. Could be some restrictions from NCAA so it may not happen.

1. Here is an unofficial list of teams going on foreign trips in August from league officials as well as Basketball Travelers (there could be many more to come): 1. Alabama -- Belgium, Netherlands; 2. Auburn -- Bahamas; 3. Clemson -- Italy; 4. Florida State -- Greece; 5. Syracuse -- Canada; 6. Nevada -- Italy; 7. New Mexico -- Australia; 8. Temple -- France/Italy; 9. Oklahoma -- Belgium, France; 10. Arkansas State -- Calgary; 11. Maryland -- Bahamas; 12. Penn State -- France, Belgium, UK; 13. UNCG -- Spain; 14. Butler -- Australia; 15. Rhode Island -- Italy; 16. Hampton -- The Bahamas; 17. South Carolina State -- Bahamas; 18. Mercer -- Germany, Lithuania, Estonia; 19. Saint Joseph's -- Italy; 20. FIU -- Spain; 21. Cleveland State -- Netherlands, Belgium, France; 22.. Kent State -- Bahamas; 23. NJIT -- Netherlands, Belgium, France; 24. Wisconsin -- Canada; 25. IUPUI -- Italy; 26. Towson -- Canada.
2. On this list above, the teams that can use these foreign trips the most are: Alabama -- after an turbulent offseason with the roster; Syracuse -- introducing a new leading point guard; New Mexico -- a veteran team playing for a first-time head coach in Craig Neal; Temple -- adjusting to life without Khalif Wyatt; Maryland -- discovering a new post presence sans Alex Len; Rhode Island -- a supposedly break through year for Danny Hurley; Wisconsin -- figuring out a way for Josh Gasser to play with Traevon Jackson on the perimeter. The foreign trips are a tremendous bonding experience for the team and staff and allow them to practice for 10 days prior to departing. The collegial experience in a low-stress environment is hard to duplicate during the regular season.

Six teams, including URI, are heading to Italy. I wonder if they'll run into each other?

Re: Italy trip
Pretty sure Mike Laprey will be providing some kind of regular online updates while they're all in Italy. Maybe there will also be some "pirate" free streaming video too.

Re: Practice for Italy trip
from the article:
Finally, Hurley has a message for Rhody fans: Forget what you saw in 2012-13. The team that averaged 61.6 points on 40-percent shooting and was frequently badly outrebounded is dead and buried. A more athletic, active, pressing running Rams team is on the way.
“Every possession won’t be life and death like last year. It will be more of a player’s game,” he said. “It was a hard style to play in. I said to fans (last year) to not be very judgmental of our players because it was not a player-friendly style. We played deep into the shot clock with a grind-it-out style. I love the way our team competed and fought, but we’ll play a much more exciting style of basketball.”

Cool article, but I was hoping from the title that there would be dates and times of open practices listed. If anybody has that information in advance of them happening (or if I've missed it elsewhere), I'd love to hear about them!BFC wrote:Rams open practice in advance of 10-day Italy trip

Ditto, sf2010!
Bill says he was invited, and doesn't know it they're open to the public.
I could bother someone on staff, but I'd like to save my contact for more
important stuff, and not be a pain in the ass.

Wow! This year, and going forward, there are so many choices as a favorite player.
I'll stick with X until he graduates
Looking forward to Hassan Martin and EC Matthews.

Re: Italy trip
While we're on the subject, I will be getting reports from
Dick Cobleigh, who along with his wife, will be on the Italy trip with
the team.
Dick has asked me if I could relay them to everyone on the board.
Dick is a great guy and a huge Rhody booster.

I will be going to the first 2 games and hopefully a couple of the practices as well. I will definitely have my computer with me due to work obligations and plan on sharing reports with the board as often as possible. And no bressler, I am not part of Hassan's posse

Re: Italy trip
Hi everyone - first time poster, long time reader...
I know everyone is wondering how we will cover the Italy trip, so I reached out to ATPTourFan for an invite to the board so I could give you some updates:
* I will be making the trip, so there will be daily updates on GoRhody.com (prose and photos), our YouTube page (videos via the players), and social media (Facebook & Twitter).
* Our great partners at Cox will also be making the trip. They will be compiling a ton of coverage for future programming, but we will also have daily video updates from games and tour highlights on the Cox Sports Online site.
* We will be stat-ing our games, but since that will be an, ahem, *process* that takes place post-game, box scores might not be immediately available. We will have them...just be patient.
* And finally, our student-athletes will be taking photos, tweeting, and filing updates along the way for our 10 day trip. Knowing our guys - many of whom have never visited outside the U.S. - there will be some great footage and first-hand experiences that I know will be special for all our fans.
If anyone has any suggestions on what they would like to see/hear/watch before and during the trip, please reach out to me via email: mlaprey@uri.edu
Thanks for allowing me to post here and Go Rhody!
