For those who like to dream, I was told that
Daynia La-Force has indeed interviewed for the women's
head basketball job.
LaForce is Terance Mann's mother.

Haha really? Thats awesome. This whole time we thought the assistant would bring a player with them, but really the new women's coach will!!

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
Um, wow. That would be very interesting. Sign her up, Thorr! That's outside-the-box thinking for recruiting, for sure!

Plus, Thorr could use a Black head coach somewhere
in the women's program for affirmative action.
She's also very close to BABC and Leo Papile.

This is thinking way too far in advance, but that would likely be a Jimmy Baron situation where he wouldn't count against the scholarship limit as well.

Now if Dan could bring in a 4-star women's player in return, we'll have something going!

I have problems believing this rumor when I see tweets like this:
Jack LeGwin@jacklegwin·21h
2015 Tilton School (NH) SG Terance Mann just told me that Arizona State, Florida State, Marquette and BC are showing the most interest.
So if there's a grand plan to hire Mom and then get Son, why isn't URI in hot pursuit of Son?

Mann is a great player. Hope we would at least be in the conversation at this point. I'll tell you what I would be not doing if I was choosing colleges again. Going to a place where my mom was on campus all the time!

What does Mann care if his scholarship counts against the team limit (unless we could convince him that we could bring in another good player on that open scholarship to improve the team)? He's going to get a free ride anyway.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
I have a couple of thoughts on this:
1. Has there been anything beyond speculation on our part linking Terrance's recruiting with his mother's job? Admittedly, I have paid no attention to the search for a women's coach, and I do get the connection, but it seems like maybe we have talked ourselves into this being an automatic package deal. Maybe it is more like this could be a factor down the road if we can push our way into his top group, but it isn't like if we hire his mother to coach our women that we then automatically get Terrance. I have a hard time believing that would be the case.
2. I really wouldn't stress the "lists" that these guys give to reporters. Some kids may tell it straight, while others may be operating their own PR campaigns. There really is no way to tell. I think we continue to put too much stock in recruiting "information" and are too willing to take everything we hear at face value. There are lots of games being played that there is just no way we could be privy to. I'm not saying that we are secretly beating Terrance's door down and also leading for him and he just isn't telling the media; I'm just saying I don't think you can surmise that we aren't recruiting based on not being mentioned when is asked a kind of informal question about the status of his recruitment.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
Can you imagine Gerbil Jim Donaldson's outrage if this were to happen?
I was told last year by our most famous booster, that we were going to get Mann.
I told him he was crazy, but he insisted it would happen.
He also stressed the benefits of the BABC pipeline with Leo Papile.
Is it a pipe-dream or a reality?
Only time will tell.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
I buy building a BABC pipeline more that hiring a recruit's mother. If she is the best person for the job, I hope we get her. And if that helps with Jared, even better. But we should be doing everything we can to build that pipeline with BABC, regardless.

17 AAU championships, right up the road.
If they're reaching out, why not reciprocate?
LaForce is the "Queen Bee" of BABC. Unfortunately,
as WBB coach, that doesn't help the MBB program.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
Maybe by hiring LaForce we ARE getting connected to BABC, besides possibly getting Mann.
With Cox bringing the DC connections, and also having the BABC pipeline, I would say the future for recruiting here will be very bright.

Better than Terrell.
If his Mom gets the HC Job at URI Today then anything can happen.
Plus she is from Northeastern so has connections in the Boston area.
I like the idea of recruiting in New England.
Interesting we did verbal a BABC player in our recent past in Dominique Bull under CFL. I never thought Bull was a good verbal for URI, glad he/ we changed minds and he went to Missouri instead.
I think very good things could happen in the next month.

For sure Thorr is trying to inprove the women's program. In fact, I think that is his job although I have questioned the past two years why keep the current HC who simply could not get it done here for whatever reasons - 5 years was two years too long.URI_IEP wrote:Maybe by hiring LaForce Thorr is trying to improve the WOMEN'S BB program. I like LaForce - great person for this job. Strong recruiting connections in the Boston Market. I would pick her even if she wasn't the mother of a Top 40 Class of 2015 Recruit.
Does her hire make Mann a lock for URI - of course not.
Does her hire make Mann a legitimate possibility for URI - of course it does.
I love this good, strong, bold hire. Love it.

Two winning seasons in a 9-year career. Two players from Mass. (neither from Boston) on her roster.

Hearing Dooley is out of town, and presser is going to be Friday.
Don't forget, she helps on the affirmative action checklist.
"Two winning seasons in a 9-year career."
Have we even had one winning WBB season in the last 20 something years?

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
I just don't see it as a slam dunk hire. If she gets the job, I wish her luck. i expected to find a roster full of Mass. players with all I've heard about her BABC connections. Only one of the players who actually plays is from Mass. The top recruiter has no Mass. ties.

Could URI do any worse than what's happened since Linda Ziemke's
reign?
Perelman, Garrick, Inglese couldn't do anything.
Why the hand wringing by people who normally couldn't care less
about the WBB?
I'm sure thousands were battering Thorr's door down to get this job, right?

Let's get the lady Rams going!
Welcome coach, good luck!
Should be easier to recruit and win here that at NE....we need to step up and budget women's hoops and get a strong program going.
The ultimate model is just up the road a bit isn't it?

Thorr and company need to brainstorm and figure out how to make
WBB a better product on the court.
Something is wrong with the program for over a decade.
Time to fix it, or changing coaches without doing much else,
is re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
Very interesting development, no doubt. I wouldn't think that hiring his mother would make Terance want to attend URI on its own merit (did anybody think he was going to Northeastern?) , but at the very least it's an opportunity for Hurley to get to know him really well. Terance will have the opportunity to be around the program all the time, and potentially develop a relationship with Hurley that isn't possible to create with any coach at a competing school.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
The only thing is, is there room for him with Terrell here?
I would think he would play more at the 3, since he has the height [6'4"] and may be still growing.
If so, there's definitely room for him.

Re: '15 MA SG Terance Mann (Offer)
If we can still get Mann, we take him, even if we do get Jared. You don't turn away from talent like that. If we're playing a lot of 3 guard sets, that's 120 minutes to split among 4 players (Matthews, Garrett, Terrell and Mann), plenty of minutes to go around. If we get Terrell, priority #1 for '15 should be a big, 4 or 5, with Gil graduating. If we get Mann and start a BABC pipeline, how about Aaron Falzon. He'd be a perfect fit for what we need when Gil is gone. OK, so there ya go...'15 class, Terence Mann and Aaron Falzon. I'm sure Cox has some interesting players he will be on too in the DC area for '15.
