Wow! If true, that's a blow for the program.
Wasn't EC Mathews talking about learning PG from Bobby?
Buffalo? He can get together with Baron.
They will be playing each other.
This came out of the blue. Of course our major newspaper is
too busy with PC in the NIT to care about Kingston.

It sounds true. It's all over twitter from some reliable sources. And yes, that is a blow to our program. His name alone was a big boost for recruiting.

The good news, I suppose, is that none of this is a surprise to Dan, and likely others in the program who were prepared to face the reality that Bobby was soon to make a name for himself if the right opportunity came.

I definitely don't think it's because of #2. If that was the case he could wait a year or follow him to his next job.

I think he probably just wanted a chance to take over his own program and probably doesn't know what Danny's long term future is at URI but doesn't want to wait forever for Danny to move on. This happens all the time in college where the top assistant leaves because he doesn't know if he'll ever be able to take over at his school.

Maybe he had a falling out with Danny. It's impossible to know what the real reason is that he'd jump to a school like Buffalo when in all honesty he could probably have done better.

Well maybe he goes and gets his experience at Buffalo and then can still always come back and take over for Dan if he leaves after taking us to 3 straight NCAA tournaments!!!

To tell the truth, I sort of felt that Bobby was kind of bored.
Think of it. He's the big star, playing second banana to his younger brother.
I doubt there's any falling out. They're like joined at the hip.
I still think he could have done much better than Buffalo.
Adam, I was thinking the same thing. It gives him D-1 experience.
But, why didn't he jump on the Wagner job, where he was surrounded by familiars?

It's a better program than Wagner in a better league. Buffalo is typically in the 100s for kenpom and the MAC is in the teens. Wagner is 200+ usually and the NEC is in the 20+ area for conferences. Good for him. Great get by Buffalo.

He's only coached 3 years. Not like Dan who had a decade of coaching before going to Wagner.

I would've thought he'd have wanted to win here then move on. Probably could've written his own ticket to somewhere a hell of a lot better than buffalo..

I believe the Buffalo Ad is the old Duke Ad....

Also Buffalo isnt that bad of a job. Alot of ppl like Jeff Goddman said when their coach got the axe that its a job alot of ppl will want.

I was at that St Joes/URI Game. Bobby more so then Dan looked like a beaten man. I believe he tweeted something after the game his basketball spirit took a huge hit, etc. Im not saying at all thats why hes leaving. Because Im sure he will struggle the same way URI did this yr early. But Im not sure.

Bobby said he wanted to be a head coach, I'm not sure why people assumed that meant he only wanted to be a head coach at URI if and when Dan left. He didn't want Wagner last year, he wanted Buffalo this year. At least now I can hate Duke again.

I'm glad for Bobby and wish him the beat. This is how this works, guys. I don't see this as much of a blow to the program. Bobby is a great basketball mind and was hugely attractive to recruits, and that is why he is getting his own program, but we will find the next guy in the pipeline ready for a shot and put him on an already good staff. Bobby was a bonus when he came here. This is Dan's program, and we are in good hands.

Probably a compilation of things.
Time to go on his own. Maybe being at CBS last week
had people telling him as much.
Being an Associate Coach meant he didn't really control
anything.
As I said, Preston and Carr move up. Those are damned good coaches.
I thought it was said on the recruiting page, that Bobby was in Florida looking at some
unknown Turkish player? Maybe it was for Buffalo and not URI?
Hey, best of luck to him. I really liked him, personally.
It will be interesting to see how he does in building Buffalo's program.

think about it. The guy wants to be a head coach. If he takes over for Danny, it will look like he won with his bro's "guys". DH is driving the bus. Bobby was a nice piece, but more like a side dish you get with a nice filet.

Sure Preston was involved and both Preston and Danny were also guards in college. But what do you think they sold EC on? I would say a big part of the sale was come in be our starting PG and learn from one of the best, Bobby Hurley. I didn't say he would back out of his commitment but I'm sure this will prompt him to take another look around.

I see it now... He did sign.. thought he may have only been a verbal. It's not jumping off bridges but don't underestimate Bobby leaving either.

Are you sure about that? I thought he was only a verbal commit. It's not jumping off bridges but don't underestimate Bobby leaving either.

He's definitely a signed LOI commit.

Agreed with all. Especially TP. I'm sure Bobby does a great job for his brother, and if Buffalo does hire him away, then we'll wish him well. If other programs are hiring our assistants away as head coaches, that's a compliment to our team. Granted, I wouldn't expect any of them to be hired away as a HC so soon, but if we get the success we hope, Bobby won't be the last assistant to go on to become a HC elsewhere. And that would be a very good thing.

Of course I understand why Bobby left and don't begrudge him. I'm looking at this from the perspective of how does this impact the program. I think his greatest asset to URI was recruiting and player development, specifically PGs.

Do you think his departure has no impact?
