from the article.......
The connection to Duquesne comes with Dru Joyce III taking over as the new head coach of the program last week. Joyce played high school basketball with Lebron and they both played under Keith Dambrot, who stepped down following the NCAA Tournament after spending the past seven seasons as head coach of Duquesne.
Lebron was actually the one to officially announce that Joyce took over the Dukes last Thursday, as their relationship remains strong since they last played basketball together 20 years ago.
Duquesne athletic director Dave Harper spoke about an important zoom meeting at Joyce’s introductory press conference, that they both did together on a recruiting pitch. He didn’t give a name to the person that Dru was recruiting, but some see it as a hint towards Bronny James.
“Dru already had his first official call, that I had a pleasure of being on, as head coach, a recruiting call,” Harper said. “I’ll never forget the young man’s name. I can’t say it because our compliance officer’s back there, but I will tell you that name’s going to be forever etched and if we’re fortunate enough to get him, we get him. If not, I’ll still remember it vividly. I had to sharpen my pitch quickly over Easter weekend just to make sure it was as good as it could possibly be to help Dru.”
If Bronny choses to enter the transfer portal, Duquesne will be mentioned as a possible destination for the guard, due to his father’s connection with Joyce, but there are many other schools that will want to land the former four-star.
