Unread post by ElmCityRhody »

32 team field

Games at 4 venues representing the ncaa brackets

Winner of each bracket represents the last 4 in

Fri - sun

Pushes ncaa back a week

I wouldn’t be surprised if something like that happens..
The power conferences could tell all the other AQs, here you go.
Winners are the 16 seeds.
Have fun.

Not a 16 seed

That would hurt the 1 seeds

I make them 11ish

There are strong teams that didn’t make the cut

This would help mid major conferences as well

I think their plan is to add 4-8 more at large teams and expand the tournament, more revenue for them !

thanks - i think its a great concept that helps mid-majors and also P5..
and will bring in quite a buzz for the NCAA and $$$
and remove the NIT

you can always give MSG the east bracket games if they are upset about losiing the NIT final 4

they can market this mini tourney awesome too..

and they would have some very good teams in there

granted probably a lot of P5, but it can help the a10 get more bids as well

Here is my too logical to be approved approach to tournament expansion...

Conference tournament winners - auto-bid bye to second round
Regular season conference winner - auto-bid but would play in 1st round
Everyone else - at-large (play in 1st round)

However it is done, the auto-bid teams are seeded 1-32 (if less than 32 conferences, add at-large teams to the bye), and then the at-large/regular season winners are seeded 1-64.

Approx at-large team 1 plays at-large team 64 with a chance to play auto-bid 32, at large 2 plays at large team 63 to play auto-bid 31, so on and so forth.

I support this for many reasons. One - it should allow for more low/mid majors. Two - It rewards them for being great during the regular season. Three - It should keep more mediocre multi-bid conference teams out in favor of cinderellas. Four - It should still give enough at-large bids to make everyone happy.

This is the only thing I support, or at least something like this...

i do agree that is a joke that a team could win the regular season, have a bad game.. and lose in the conference tourney and lose a bid

you play all year for 1st and lose a chance to dance

from that perspective, i do like that approach

i am no fan of st johns, or PC.. but obviously they both can play with any team in the ncaa...

yes, someone has to be "left out" but turning the NIT into the ncaa mini tourney will solve alot of ills and make $ for the ncaa.. so , they would be happy there as well...

i think my approach solves this tho

having 32 teams more is a lot and you get rid of the NIT, create a huge buzz the 1st weekend.. and give teams in top 64 a chance for practice etc

Of course. We all know with NIL the ad revenue generated is going to the players. The TV contracts for men's basketball is going to the players, right? How about the NCAA tournament credits for wins? We all know that is going to players. I'm confused why, with the billions of dollars NCAA Basketball generates, I'm being shaken down by my college to pay for players. Strange times indeed.

The answer is ditch the NIT and make more “first four” games. I am fine with the “first four” games. You could easily make it 8 games or 12 game it still wouldn’t bother me. Let the bubble teams battle it out.

32 teams / 16 games

4 brackets

4 "final 4 in"

it really is as simple as that and a no brainer

this allows all the top 64 teams and all the nit teams in the tourney

I like it BUT, I’m thinking this is too many games for teams to play, and too much average basketball that most fans around the country wouldn’t really care for (like the NIT). Pushing the tournament back for these bubble type teams doesn’t seems like something that would happen. How about just giving the top 32 teams a Bye, and having an opening round with 64 teams? That adds one (real) round and starts at the same time it does now. I hope that makes sense. I’m on vacation and a little hungover.

stay hungover.. thats a good idea also - altho wouldn't raise $ and tv$ for ncaa

the ultimate goal would be to get more mid-major teams in .. like Rhody

granted this would also allow for much more P5 teams get in.. but.. it also can help the a10

i think its nearly impossible with this landscape to get a high enought NET for rhody to make the tourney without winning the a10 tourney

so, thats my angle in all of this

It's impossible for Rhody to make the NCAAs without wining the A10 tourney?

FIVE Mountain West just made the NCAA tourney without winning the MW title.

Granted (and I vehemently disagree with the committee here), New Mexico had to win the autobid to dance. If SDSU had won, there would be 5 teams in with 4 at large.

Same! Utah State being on the same seed line as FAU and only a single seed line better than Michigan State is flat out wrong. Having Boise St in Dayton is also a travesty.

"nearly".. ha

let me rephrase... a10 is what these days ?.. maybe a 2 tourney league ?

this would open the door to 3 teams..

bottom line of my post remains the same.. it would help more teams get in the tourney - which only helps us
