How many players from this current list of 15 will be on the URI MBB Roster November 1?

I may be the high on this poll, going with lucky #11. I really do not want to see more than 2 players inbound in the portal. Why do we need to change the end of the bench as long as they work hard in practice? Are we building a culture or not? It seems strange to expect guys to play for each other when there is a threat of being pushed out of the program.

Also in regards to PG there is at least a chance that Hammond was told he would get the keys from Day 1 and that is why he chose us. I have no way of knowing that but it wouldn’t be that surprising. I also wouldn’t hate it. But it will come with significant growing pains even if he is every bit as good as advertised.

Hammond is absolutely key to any success we have starting next season.

Archie said when he signed that he was one of the best recruits he's ever got a commitment from.

Let's hope he's right.

Every URI team that was good that I can remember had a really good PG running the show.

If Hammond IS as good as advertised, Archie has to find a way to keep him here past next season.

Just another reason why next season is so important.

Archie spoke of having continuity. Of course he's right there. Again, our best teams were made up of guys that were here 3 or 4 years.

Of course that's when teams were built from the ground up, in other words joined as freshman recruits and developed from there.

Again with the unlimited movement year to year that's the case now, it's going to be a lot harder to keep the gang together so to speak.

But it needs to happen, as difficult as it might be.

With what I posted last night from Luis IG Story repost it seems he is gone.

Looking like he will pursue professional ball overseas. He has been in college 4 years so the assumption is he would graduate in May?

Then from among these 4 I’d expect 3 to stay for a total of 5 returnees:
3. Fuchs
4. Estevez
5. House
6. Green

1 or more of these 4 current players:
- may get a better offer which could include more playing time, more NIL or both
- may want a change of scenery with a different team in a different conference


House really improved his defense, his speed and aggressiveness the past month. Became a leader with more positivity.
Green had some injury issues and it was difficult to get back into playing condition considering the injuries. Showed good ability to score and score efficiently.

I wouldn’t be surprised if House is selects that option as well.

Perhaps with a revamped NIL we can convince him to stick around.

Can't really blame Luis if he is graduating and wants to go pursue a career overseas. For me, he was one that I was on the fence about. I do think he could be a positive vet presence and he always seemed to play hard out there, but I do think coming back would have to be in a reduced role a bit.

19-28 are in the 6-8 group which makes total sense

I also like giving the keys to Hammond say 1 let him go out there and play for 30 plus minutes per night

I hope we are successful in buying better players. The great bulk of the rented paid professional mercenaries we had this past year just did not get it done. They most definitely did not earn their compensation and perks and proved on the court to be a bad investment. We need better professionals.

I've got 8 and that's with the hope that neither of the incoming frosh change their minds.

But most important is the Top 5 players. The quality of the Top 5 players is what separates the Tier 1 Teams from the rest.

We need players capable of being All Conference level.

Many are going to want out on their own for a change of scenery, better opportunity for playing time and just because they can with no penalty.

Much better talent is needed.

To me this feels about right - unless we get another PG and Ways hits the portal sensing his diminishing role.

That said - 5295 players in NCAA D1. Roughly 2000 or more to hit the portal, that means roughly 40% of your roster should be expected to turnover on average.

Likely more movement to come as players are added to the roster in the remaining 6 months (half a year!!)to go til November. If and when any potential starters are added to the roster this could lead some to leave as they see their playing time reduced.

Call me crazy but I'd welcome back both Kortright and Dubsky for the sake of continuity. I did not see an effort problem with either player. We badly need a skilled big so would allocate most of the remaining budget there.

Good idea. We don't want to get players any better than that. That would just be ridiculous

Now that the portal has closed, it feels worth mentioning once again that despite all the talk about losing players to P5 schools and players leaving for more NIL, we still have lost only one player (Ish) to a P5 school since the transfer rules changed and it doesn't look like any of the players we have lost left for more NIL money based on where they have ended up so far.

This is because we have been a joke of a program with minimal talent for 4 years with no players worth a look from P5s.

Exactly, and that's kind of been my point. Everyone complaining about players leaving for P5 schools and NIL money when it's just not the reality of the situation here. I would LOVE to have such a good team that P5 schools wanted our players and were throwing money at them. That would mean we were actually good instead of what we are now. Sign me up for that over the last few seasons every time! Then you're a solid program that other good players will want to come play for to if some of the current ones are so good that they leave. Plus I think that becoming that good of a program would lead to less players leaving as well.

Hopefully, Adam, when we get good and have P5’s tempting our players, we can beat them off with a big stick - like the meme of beating a dead horse - from a core group and just between a starting/rotation spots.

Doesn't that show what a poor job the staff has been at evaluating talent and bringing players in?

Hopefully! Obviously it won't be realistic to keep them all every year, but the dream is that you become a good enough program that more players want to stay and then even when some do leave you are in a good enough spot to replace them with more good players.

It reminds me a lot of the same conversations that would take place whenever we get a really good coach who then inevitably leaves for a bigger/better program. Of course it sucks when those types of guys leave, but if they do it usually means that you had some really good years leading up to it! And the alternative is nobody else wants your coach because you stink.

It does, I don't think anyone would disagree that there have been some recruiting misses, but there were also some extenuating circumstances in play the first year at least and to some extent the second year to. I think the quality of player we're bringing in has gotten better each year that Archie has been here so the goal obviously has to be to keep that going.
