Just six. Games at home vs SBU, VCU, and GW are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

That is a very nice home conference schedule if I must say.

I stand corrected. Still like that majority are weekends

Last season four games -George Mason, La Salle, St. Bonaventure, and UMass - were played in the intersession and games in this period typically draw smaller crowds especially if played on a weekday and the two worst attended conference games last season fit this bill - La Salle and UMass. Games between Christmas and New Year's historically do well which somewhat explains why the GMU game drew 6,383 versus the 5,583 for UMass, a traditional rival, though GMU game being played on a Saturday also helped.

This season only two conference games - George Mason and the Bonnies- are scheduled for the intersession and the GMU game is on a Sunday. Classes start on Jan. 23 which is the date for the VCU game. The OOC game versus Middle Tenn plays between the holidays on a Sunday and it will be interesting to see how well that game draws. No question the conference schedule is attractive, but disappointed we only play 5 home OOC games with Middle Tenn the highlight!

Anyone feeling like Holy Cross is going to be our biggest Non-Conference game?

In the article the author says he is a current Holy Cross srudent so he picked Holy Cross. He made shitty picks for other schools as well. Why is a current Holy Cross student writing for A10 Talk?

There’s no way that he’s serious about Holy Cross, if anything it’s an insult to the rest of Rhodys opponents.

Found this interesting read on buy games. Cost has risen to the $80-100K range these days. Probably helps to explain why URI is now playing more games away from the Ryan Center than preceding seasons.

This is a look at the Rams' OOC schedule using last year's RPI and Ken Pom for want of better metrics. IMHO, five opponents with RPI's 200+ will hurt the team, if we get into the "bubble" region come dance time. That means hoping we don't get Charlotte in Hawaii!

Opponent 2017-18 RPI 2017-18 Record Post Season

1.	Bryant 341 (344) 3-28 None
2.	Charleston 61 (115) 26-8 NCAA
3.	Harvard 120 (141) 18-14 NIT
4.	Stony Brook	211 (223) 13-19 None
5.	Brown 298 (267) 11-16 None
6.	Providence 36 (63) 21-14 NCAA
7.	Holy Cross	265 (290) 12-19 None
8.	West Virginia 24 (12) 26-11 NCAA
9.	Bucknell 81 (97) 25-10 NCAA
10.	TCU 28 (24) 21-12 NCAA
          or
11.	Charlotte	321 (308) 6-23 None
12.	TBD
13.	Middle Tenn. 30 (45) 25-8 NIT

If teams perform to their expectations Charleston, Harvard, PC, West Virginia, TCU and MiddTenn State all should be resume building chances. Always gonna be some cupcakes just nature of scheduling but even without Nevada IMO we have a nice schedule for a young team.

It's a very solid schedule. MTSU might take a step back, but likely a small one. Losing Chaley hurts Charleston but they should still be solid plus on the road. PC and WVU will be solid non-home games. The difference between a great OOC schedule and a very good one is that TCU game. No one cares about the 200+ games as long as a) you win them and b) you have other solid OOC victories. URI should get the shots with this schedule. Just have to make them.

Shamorie Ponds is one of the best guards in the country. He’ll be a great test for Dowtin and company.

Also, I’ll never forget Kevin McNamara telling me on twitter that Ponds had no choice (no other options!) but to go to St. John’s after Maliek White committed to Providence, one of Ponds’ finalists, and that PC had gotten their guy. He also said I was subject to my “New York City bias” if I thought Ponds was that much better than White. First of all, I have a Philly bias, don’t get it twisted. And second of all, no.

Kevin Mac knows nothing about college basketball and even less about recruiting talent. White won’t start in his Jr year for PC and Ponds is a preseason All American.

KenPom has to be taken with a GIANT grain of salt in the preseason. Largely driven by continuity metrics and returning production, and unable to measure the impact of newcomers and expanding roles/development for returnees.

Sure, it's a mathematical projection that will become accurate throughout the season as more input data is inserted. It's just an interesting baseline to see where you are and where your opponents are. I would imagine that throughout the season, half of your opponents will go up, half of your opponents will go down.

I just noticed a weird scheduling quirk. We don't face St. Joe's until the 2nd to last game of the season. I would have figured if we are only playing a team once, we'd face them somewhere in the middle. But then again, we only face Richmond once and it's game two. I guess that offsets. With an 18 game schedule and 5 home and homes (Dayton/Davidson/SLU/VCU/UMass) that's bound to happen.

CBS ranks all 353 D1 schools. Link:
https://www.cbssports.com/college-baske ... very-team/

Has URI at #134 for 5th place in the A-10. Not many URI opponents ranked high (just 7-8 vs top 100 and 10-11 after top 200) by CBS Sports. The A-10 is not well thought of with more than half its teams outside the top 150. URI is picked as the 5th best team (out of 8) of what is considered a weak Diamond Head Classic field. Opponents are ranked accordingly:

CBS Sports 1-353
16 West Virginia
25 TCU * (possible game in tourney)
39 Providence
49 St Joe's
50 St Louis
68 Davidson
73 UNLV * (possible game in tourney)
75 Colorado * (possible game in tourney)
80 Harvard
105 Charleston
115 George Mason
132 Indiana State * (possible game in tourney)
140 Dayton
155 VCU
158 Bucknell
173 St Bonaventure
178 UMass
180 Hawaii * (possible game in tourney)
210 Richmond
223 Stony Brook
229 Duquesne
232 Middle Tennessee
240 Holy Cross
244 Brown
262 George Washington
282 LaSalle
300 Fordham
301 Bryant
302 Charlotte * (possible game in tourney)

My guess is it more a reflection on Cooley and the fact that he has had to replace several key players each of the last five seasons yet still managed NCAA appearances. Even with player turnover and injuries, he has been consistent in having his team play an NCAA game each year.

30-50 seems like the Friars window this year, barring injuries. A lot will depend on PG play and Frosh development. 60-80 is my window for Rhody. Norlander obvi felt different but when you are grading 300+ teams something’s gotta give.

They lost 3 out of the top 4 scorers. Bullock, Cartwright & Lindsey all started for three years. They avg 35 points, 12.5 Rebs & 7.7 Ast. Cartwright avg 5.8 Ast and the returning players in total avg 7.8 Ast. They lost a lot. Two big question marks - can MAL step up and fill Cartwright’s shoes and who will fill the hole left by Bullock. Diallo and Watson are good. Jackson is serviceable. Need MAL and the Fr to be good. As we know it is risky counting on your Fr to be top 3 in scoring.

Realistically, how much work do we think CBS put into all the teams they ranked outside the top 20 or 25 schools? Maybe like a half hour? I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.

I think the national guys might not understand how un-Cyril Cyril was last year. Unless you’re really paying attention to a team or their conference, nagging injuries that limit a player can fly under the radar. If they’re playing, there’s an assumption that that’s who they are as a player.

But, we saw some of his struggles, especially with jumping and mobility. It will all come down to the freshmen, I think, to really overachieve, but a healthy Langevine definitely makes this team different than expected. He didn’t get to have that big jump between freshman and sophomore year, but I feel like it’s coming this season.

I’m guessing he has to sit out this season, so he won’t be a factor when they play, but I was looking over rosters and re-discovered that former Flyer Sam Miller (of drunken exploits in jail cell fame) is now with Charleston.
