X had 35 points last night but his team lost and now is 0 and 2. He had 3 points in the season opener. He is playing for Bakersfield which is the same team he played for last year.

I had a family member that had dealings with Jarelle. Said he was very soft-spoken and polite. Was a good kid. Thought he was intimidated by Hurley and this probably made for very nervous play.

Glad to see he is doing well. The change (not that it was his decision) might have been the best thing for him.

Great to see X doing well in the D-League. He must have been putting in a lot of work on his shot - form looks much smoother from outside. He definitely deserves some thanks for helping get the rebuild off the ground when DH arrived. Great representative of URI, hope he has a long professional career. Maybe even a couple 10-day contracts later this season.

He was a turnover waiting to happen here. I think he'd be nice coming off the bench for us this season.
I mean would any of us have guessed he'd be tearing it up like he has thus far for EKU?
It'll be interesting to see how well he'll do against better competition.

through 5 games now:
38-48 now for FTs for 79.1%
8-12 for 3 pointers for 67%

37 points today on 13-17 fr, 3-5 on 3 pointers, 8-11 ft, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks and 3 turnovers....pretty amazing game for him

Longwood isn't on our schedule, though. I guess it just shows the level of competition the Rams face
as opposed to playing teams like Longwood. I doubt we would have seen much more from Jerrelle this
season than we did last year. He was a serviceable Atlantic 10 player

Clearly he is capable of more than he showed here, I mean those kind of numbers are very impressive. Longwood isn't as good as opponents that the Rams face, but they also aren't the school of the blind & deaf

Agree, Kentucky State plays in a decent conference - not all that far below the Atlantic 10. There were plently of teams the quivalent of Longwood and Kentucky State that we played during Jarrell's time at URi and he never shot this accurately, rebounded this well or passed for so many assists. Sometimes players just need a change of scenery. Good for him.

It happens the other way too. There are also oftentimes that players leave that we think were better than they leter proved to be, ie Stevie Mejia. Steve however he never reached the level at Hofstra that some expected he would.

What is happening here? I think I was pretty much the only Jarelle defender on here the last two years, but this seems excessive. He was a great teammate at Rhode Island, and, like I said, I hope he can play professionally at home if he chooses to. Eastern Kentucky plays in the one-bid Ohio Valley Conference. We know exactly what a team gets from Reischel off the bench, and he was not good enough to start for the Rams. Defense seems to be more or less optional so far for EKU. The level and the style are both a good fit for him. The new EKU coach (McHale) recruited Scott Machado to Iona out of St. Benedict's when Dan was there, so there was some work done on both sides to get Jarelle in the right spot. Matt Butler transferred to the same conference. I hope he also finds success next season.

You are right Ace.
The depth of Martin, Watson and Iverson would have left less Playing time available for Jarelle, as it left less time for Iffy.
Shows the improvement that Dan has brought to the team and the depth of skill
Good to see a player like Jarelle go on to play as he has so far - shows just how talented we have become.

We can see what a difference in talent there is from the bottom 4 teams to the top 4 teams in the A10. Dayton, VCU, Davidson and URI are the premier teams now. They recruit and they Coach at a higher level than the rest of the conference

Never fails, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Remember when Iffy scored 21 against Maine. As someone else alluded to, Jarelle is a great kid but we knew what we had with him and these stat lines are part and parcel to his role on his new team and the level of competition.

What's excessive about it? No one wrote that he''d be a starter here or even do ANYTHING. He's doing something positive, which was sporadic at best according to posters concerning JR's play -- on a-minute-by-minute-basis -- while in Kingston.
Sorta like the the excessive slobbering over Biruta, who drove people nuts with his play.

HOWEVER, BOTH WERE FINE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNIVERSITY AND I WISH THEM WELL IN EVERYTHING THEY DO IN THE FUTURE, WHENEVER, WHEREVER, AS PLAYERS AND NON-PLAYERS…..

Reischel went for 24/12/8 in his last game over the weekend. He went 17 for 18 from the line (career 56.5% FT shooter while at URI) & is 81% this season.
I know the caliber of competition isn't the same, but wow. They play Kentucky on Wednesday. Interested to see what happens.

Here are some numbers that can show how playing time can help a players confidence level and therefore shooting percentage:
Jarelle:
3 pointers
2013: 13-38 for 34.2%
2014: 6-23 for 26.1%
2015: 15-29 for 51.7%
Free throws - Rambone will love this
2013: 49-82 for 59.8%
2014: 16-33 for 48.5%
2015: 70-85 for 82.4% including a recent game where he hit 17-18 in ONE GAME

Not saying he or we made a mistake. I think this was a win-win move for him but playing time and confidence can impact shooting percentages significantly and vary by the individual. Good for him.

ramster, that is simply unbelievable.

Is there something in the air at the RC that causes our players to miss so many FT's? Even Four?

How come we can't get any FT shooters like that?

Seriously, you can't make this stuff up.

Is it the curse of Jerry D? Are we doomed to wander in the BB wilderness for eternity?

And some on this board say you can't teach a poor FT shooter to get better?

You now have your answer. Something is seriously lacking on this coaching staff, when it comes to teaching how to make foul shots.

Again ramster, playing time is only a small part of the equation.

How come our players who play a lot of minutes and take a lot of foul shots, suck at shooting them?

I knew you would like that Rambone. It really is very strange. I think it has to be a confidence thing with Jarelle and when he got the starting spot and the playing time his confidence just skyrocketed. Some players are like that. Amazing what he has done quite honestly.

ramster, strange doesn't begin to explain this shit......

Yes maybe JR was intimidated by Hurley in practice, or by being yanked when he made a mistake during games.

However, it goes back to getting the most out of your players.

Remember Dan's first year here, where it seemed the team overachieved by playing better teams close almost every game? Not much talent, but it looked like whatever talent we had was maxed out?

It's obvious by what's happened, that JR has a lot more talent than what he showed during his time here.

That, to me, shows that there is something going wrong here. Players may be getting mentally beaten down, and it's showing on the court.

Just some food for thought.

When Dan was hired, I thought it was a very good, not great hire. There were some seasoned coaches in the MAAC and some other mid major programs that I thought might be a better fit. Dan certainly had the pedigree and said all the right things but I was tremendously disappointed when he assembled his staff. There was no veteran presence among the group and they all seemed to be yes men with very little experience. The staff has turned over quite a bit since Dan came on board and he is yet to hire that type of coach. Spare me the "if he needs guidance, he can always call Dad card". That ship has sailed. He can't even get a recruit from there. Look at some of the great college coaches over the past ten years and look at the staff make up. Most, not all have that George Blaney type sitting by their side.

Good example of that is Xavier when they were in the A10.

Always seemed to have good assistants who took over when a coach left, and they never missed a beat.

Here? Ho Ho Ho.......of course we pay squat and you get what you pay for. The really good ones have left for greener pastures.....

Not saying our assistants aren't any good, just that maybe there's something missing like a Blaney or Jeff Jones....

Another impressive performance by Reischel against a Manhattan team that is 283rd in the country in defensive points per game and 285th in adjusted defensive efficiency.
