Is this going to be in the Projo tomorrow?

When this extension is signed, people that called out the coach's character should be ready to repent.

They have nothing in the Projo.com online version as of now.

There was nothing on tonight's 6&7pm WJAR newscasts. Carpano did however have a piece about Ledo possibly going pro.

In the Projo tomorrow?? They likely won't move on this story until 2 weeks after the extension happens.

What a roller coaster, can't blame him for using it as leverage, hopefully he asked for some program-related things too. It's only year 1, we're going to have to adapt to having a marketable coach.

A potential difference between Alford and UCLA is that the UCLA job was not open when he signed his extension with New Mexico.....the Rutgers job is open and Hurley hopefully gets extended here.....

Heard CBS commentators Phelps and Bilas saying no coach would want the Rutgers job if the President doesn't go in addition to the AD already being gone......and saying it would be a great job if there was a complete housecleaning.....Rutgers does have an excellent academic reputation and is a potential giant with the right coach (this last line is my thought)

You fought the good fight Rod and when you had info you posted it which I think alot of us are thankful for. If it wasn't for fans like us that are emotionally invested, there'd be no program.

That say plenty. He has goals for the program and used this as leverage to get
what he needs. Not for himself but for URI basketball.

Dan Hurley isn't Jim Harrick and Thorr isn't Ron Petro.

The Rutgers board feels the extension is irrelevant. Hurley is still a target. Dan has got to make a Shaka Smart statement soon to confirm he is staying at URI. This has been too much of a roller coaster few days for me, so forgive my being a "doubting Thomas".

Not surprising that Zags knows of the extension timeline. He was one of the first to caution that Dan may not reciprocate the draw towards Rutgers as was being suggested.

Great news! Now we know why Dan was so quiet lately.

It's also great news, that URI is going to give Dan what he needs to get the job done. Without this assurance, he would likely be gone soon. URI BB needs Dan to succeed, and visa versa.

And Rod, sorry I almost fell off the cliff, but I wasn't the only one, and even you were starting to waver.

Now let's get the thing signed, and move on to basketball stuff.

Obviously, the Rutgers job possibility was the thing that got Dooley and Thorr motivated to finally agree to Dan's wishes.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone with a bigger inferiority complex....

Honestly, you are a grown man so you are more than entitled to do what you want, but someone who has to tweet/message every single post that has semi-negative tone towards URI about how wrong they are, about how someone would want no part of that, etc. etc. etc. just seems like you really are bitter and really do have an inferiority complex about your program.

You can pump up and support your program without coming out like a complete homer.

Good for URI and I look forward to next year's game with Cooley vs. Hurley II.

While the deal is expected to be completed sometime mid-week, a person with knowledge of Hurley's plans says that it would eliminate him from contention for the Rutgers job.

The person, who requested anonymity because the negotiations are still ongoing, said Hurley would not sign an extension and then depart for another job. (Steve Alford signed an extension last month with New Mexico but left for the UCLA job less than two weeks later.)

Part of the reason? The person said that contract extension — and Hurley's reasoning for staying — is not financially motivated. Rhode Island is expected to put language into the extension that will provide the program with a number of things the men's basketball team -- notably, facility improvements -- needs to be competitive in the Atlantic-10 Conference.

Not one of those reporters ever said or wrote he SHOULD leave. They gave reason why he could leave. The rest was inferred by you.
I notice that you failed to report that rooke and SC were on record this morning stating that they wanted DH to stay. I would assume you git banned for excessive profanity; not your opinion. If you're going to report what they say; tell the whole story.

Kudos to Kevin McNamara, who at least made the case for Hurley to remain here.

Congratulations Rod....they threw me off that board Years ago...it doesn't take much. You call them out on something and they ban you. Your frustration is certainly shared by many...the local media, instead of building the case for keeping the hometown coach spends 3 days trying to convince him to go! Sure...leave for a program whose entire athletic dept. is in shambles.... To be a bottom dweller for years in the Big Ten and if you are lucky enough to get to the tourney in 7-8 years where are you going from there? Leave it to our local brillant sports "journalist" to make that case!

Sorry, Rod, that you got banned from the PC board. But the moderators of that board just can't rise above pettiness. They couldn't carry the glove of the moderators of this board in terms of being cool and classy.

On the Hurley redux, I'm going to wait a bit before celebrating. The Harrick double-take years ago still has me twitching when I encounter similar situations.

Has anyone noticed that every piece of information on this topic has been reported by a major media outlet, first Yahoo Sports, then NY Post, and now Sports Illustrated? Hurley Sr. talks to the media the day Rice gets fired, Bobby the next, Dan nothing. Its complete chaos at Rutgers but we knew exactly what we were supposed to know (local media knew less than that, why are they still relevant?). I don't do the whole good guy, bad guy thing but this is definitely a smart guy.

I'm happy to see that this was more about an overall commitment and not more money for Dan. As I said, this job pays plenty and he will be a wealthy man when he is done. But I will feel much better when it's signed and he states he is here for the long haul.

When Dan delivers NCAA credits of his own to Rhody, he will get a pay bump. For now, he wants no restrictions to achieving that goal.

As long as they don't drag out the signing any longer than next week, everything looks OK.

It is a little unsettling, that URI may have been dragging it's feet on promised program improvements, until the Rutgers situation forced their hand.

Hey, remember, Dan's been saying EVERYONE has to do their part to get this program to that next level.

Now that URI finally looks like they will uphold their end of the bargain, Dan will be fully prepared to uphold his, and deliver on his promises to us.

What is accomplished is to put this program on a level playing field with other schools.
Six hour bus trips? Micke Mouse!
Hurley wants a first class program and leveraged to get it done.

Exactly what Shaka Smart has done at VCU.

As for the PC board, there was a thread about a month ago talking about
in whose mouth and whose mother genitals were being put. Funny, nobody got banned,
despite people challenging each other to bathroom stall fist fights.
I used the word shit, and voila! Gone!
