• Maye Toure was strong as expected. She has improved on an already good shooting stroke.

• Tammi had the team focus on getting the ball inside to Toure and Magassa particularly in the 1st 2 quarters taking advantage of their height and skill

• Sophomore Howa Komara was 1st off the bench. She has gained strength since last year and showed a strong inside presence especially defensively

• I have never seen as talented and deep WBB Team at URI

• Freshman Eva Dechent made her appearance midway through Q3. She played well and demonstrated strong potential

• Freshmen Katie Leddon and Sophia Vital played well, picking right up on the fast pace being played.

• Last minutes of the game was Dutat, Sene, Vital, DeChent and Ledden - 2 Sophs and 3 Freshmen - I found myself thinking these 5 could finish 2nd or 3rd in the A10 Conference if they were themselves another A10 team - that is how deep the quality of our bench is. We are talented, deep and have a nice mix of players of different age/experience

• We are definitely the team to beat in the A10 and we have an exciting rest of the year ahead of us.

Regarding Tenin Magassa, Tammi said that she played hurt all of last season and we didn't see what she could really do. Tammi says that Tenin is now fully healthy, so watch out.

This is the Tenin Magassa that destroyed us back in February 22 when she played for Dayton

Last year Magassa did not play until January 15th and even then only 6 minutes in her 1st URI game. She only played 14 games for the season.
Last night I thought she was the best player on the floor. Her height and physical toughness were clearly on display. She could end up in the WNBA, as could Toure and Dutat who is only a Sophomore but with high upside. Best URI WBB Team I have ever seen.

• 1317 Attendance for the Friday Night 6pm start

• URI played a Full Court press against UMASS-Lowell relentlessly for the entire Four 10 minute quarters

• UMass Lowell had an astounding 32 Turnovers with 18 TO's due to URI Steals. Teisha Hylam led with 7 steals, Dee Dee Davis had 4. UML had more TO's with 32 than they had rebounds with 30

• URI had only 8 Turnovers to go with 18 Assists

• URI was only 4-18 3FG's but a highlight was promising Freshman Eva DeChent hitting 2-4 3FG's in 7 minutes of play.

• Tammi had all 12 players get playing time and there was never a decrease in defensive intensity no matter who was in the game regardless of which Quarter we were playing and regardless of how big the URI lead was

• Tammi was coaching with the same energy thought regardless of the size of the lead

• URI looked like a team capable of being Nationally Ranked at some point in the season. They were dominating for the 2nd game this week to go to 2-0

• URI Players were unselfish, passed well and defense was very high level

Tammi never lets up, never lets her players let up.

This team is so good and so deep! Tammi is basically fielding two different starting fives. Adding grad transfer guards Dee Dee Davis and Teisha Hyman has made this possibly the best backcourt in Rhody history. Absolutely suffocating defense, relentless uptempo offense and balanced scoring . The only areas of concern right now are 3 point shooting and free throws. But I haven't been this excited about Rhody hoops since the glory days of Dan Hurley. Hop on board the Tammi Train - it's a helluva ride!

I’m taking my middle school aged granddaughters to see them against Harvard Christmas week. They’re excited about it!

Yes, they were horrible, it was extremely ugly.
Our pressure defense was too much for them.
I think in the 1st half alone, they had almost twice as many turnovers as points.

UML picked preseason to finish 6th American East. We play at Maine next Tuesday picked to finish 2nd in AE.

UML was about what a 6th place AE Team would be. Problem for them is URI is so good, not just Tier 1 A10 but now the heavy favorite to win the A10. Potential to knock on the Top 25 door.

I watched URI warm up and then watched UML huddle before warm up. 1st thought was UML seems so small. Not just height but URI players are stronger and heavier too. Strong physical, agile.

URI has 7 players on the roster 6 feet and higher. UML has 3 listed 6 feet or more.

Not just height, weight, strength. URI has speed. Most of all it's Tammi and staff coaching and pushing the players to Full Vourt Press the entire 40 minutes - not 30. Tammi has them competing hard for playing time minutes. The players see defense leading to turnovers that lead to points.

Tammi is marching the sideline, demonstrating excitement, enthusiasm and drive when the team is up 2 and the same when up 40. Reminds me in a lot of ways of Hurley but Tammi is amazing. And her staff is amazing.

1 stat that I remember. We had 12 steals in the 1st half. We have lots of speed, especially the 2 new guards and they're pressing and trapping all over the court. It's fun to watch.

Maine leads UMASS at Maine 54-33 early in Q4 this Sunday afternoon

Maine just beat UMass 69-48. In Orono.

Rhody travels to Orono on Tues. Maine already holds two victories over A10 teams: LaSalle and UMass. LaSalle they beat by 10 in Philly and UMass they just beat by 21 at home.

First test for the Rhody Women's team. Rhody looking to take care of business after a holiday weekend in the land of ice and snow, and Maine trying to get the hat trick on their three back-to-back A10 non conference opponents.

That's a pretty good beatdown. Has UMass slipped from last year, or is Maine that good? A mixture of the two? Either way, it'll clearly be more of a test for URI.

UMASS slipped a lot as most Teams do, especially these days, when their HC leaves for greener $$$ pastures. UMASS head coach left for Pittsburgh in ACC

Dayton got burned the year earlier when their HC left for Illinois. In fact Magassa came to URI from Dayton.

Not worried about Maine.

Good road trip for team to further bond and stay on the mission to win A10, win A10 Conference Tournament and get to NCAA Tournament.

In other news, interesting game between Princeton and Middle Tennessee, currently in progress. A team URI will face at home, key game, and a team that will most likely be in the NCAAT.

Princeton grinding it out with MT on the road, takes a late lead. I might want to revise that prediction for MT to "a team that will most likely make a postseason tournament". They seemed like a shoo-in for the NCAAT up until about 5 mins ago.

That #00 for Princeton is a brute. She absolutely assaulted the starting guard for MT and then gave the ref the stare down from hell, through the top of her forehead, like she was trying to decide if his liver would taste good with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

We face them a week from today. They have a game vs Elon on Wed at home. We have games at Maine Tues, and at Brown Fri. And then of course at NC State, all three on the road.

This stretch is going to tell us a lot about the team that Tammi has built.

He and his team lost because the rest of Div 1 is slowly but surely catching up.

This is why I can't root for a team like UConn. Because this guy flips out and yells at his players when they lose. Losing is a part of life. Everyone loses something eventually. Learning to deal with your short comings and make the most of your strengths is the hallmark of a well rounded person. Learning to pick yourself up and get back up and move forward was the lesson of Rocky Balboa, and it's a popular one for a reason.

That's why Rhody is so easy to cheer for. They won't always come out on top. But as long as they make the most of their talent and continuously improve from game to game... it's alllllll goooood.

UMass lost two time A10 Women's Player of the Year Sam Breen to graduation. Also lost 1st team guard Sydney Taylor, 2nd team guard Ber'Nyah Mayo, and all-defensive guard Destiney Philoxy. Looks like Taylor and Philoxy to graduation and Mayo to St. John's, who we'll see later this year

#00 is Ellie Mitchell, two time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year. In our 61-53 win against them in the Ryan Center 11/20/21 she had 6 points, 15 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 turnover. Last year when we lost 56-54 at their place she had 2 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 2 turnovers

Sophie is only 4-24 on 3's so far this season, and 2-18 in the last two games. She definitely looked off against Lowell

Princeton put up a good fight but lost to #21 Indiana 72-63 in Fort Myers

Since we lost at Maine anything is possible tonight

I don't know how Quinnipiac is 1-4. They're outshooting and outplaying us - up 24-20 @ 5.01 mark of Q2
