Ramster I do like the energy that Tammi brought to the women's basketball team.ramster wrote: ↑2 years agoJersey77 wrote: ↑2 years ago Ramster not sure what your current thoughts are, we discussed this a couple of months ago.
But I am still going with my original prediction of our starting 5 and my thoughts from then:
Lassiter (G)
Covington (G)
Cairns (G)
Squires (F)
Magassa (C)
With losing all our top players and most of our scoring, I see this as a tough transition season.
This team will have its struggles, especially in the early part of the season with all the new faces.
I feel that UMass will easily be the odds-on favorite to win the A10 with all their firepower coming back.
77,
I don’t see this as a transition year at all. Tammi added experience and improved outside shooting which was a weakness on last years team. Not a surprise to have so much talent as Tammi enters her 4th year at URI. She has quickly turned this program around and it continues trending up
I don't like predicting the starting lineup because I trust Tammi immensely to start the best players and to substitute effectively. This team is deeper and more talented than last year's team. Predicting a starting 5 is even tougher when 8 of 14 players are from outside the US.
More important who finished than who starts.
Tammi brought in 3 transfers from A10 teams, all were A10 6th Man POY award winners. All 3 were starters at Top A10 Programs Richmond, VCU and Dayton.
US - 6
France -6
Israel - 1
Estonia - 1
Emma Squires - Richmond. 6’2” F. 5th year. 2021-22 6th man A10 POY
Madison Hattie-Covington - VCU. 5’10” G. 6th year. 2019-20 6th man A10 POY
Tenin Magassa - Dayton. 6’5” C. Will be a JR. 2021-21 6th man A10 POY and was All Rookie Freshman. From France
Dolly Cairnes is a returning starter who will be a JR.
Team those 4 up with these 10:
Maye Toure 6'2" JR from France. Physical, good rebounder, strong defensively.
Sayawni Lassiter 5'10" GRAD Transfer from Rutgers
Emmi Rinat 6' SOPH from Israel. Can shoot the lights out when hot.
Sophie Phillips 5'7" SOPH
Howa Kamera 6' SOPH from France
Sophi Sene 6'3" SOPH from France
Anete Adler 6'5" FR from Estonia
Chantelle Blagrove 5'9" FR
Anaelle Dutat 6' FR from France
Ines Debroise 5'9" Freshman from France
Tammi already has 3 freshmen who committed in their JR years. All 3 participated in Tammi’s recent summer camp and I heard good things about all 3. Sophia Vital, Katie Ledden and Eva DeChent already make up a great Class of 2023 before their SR years even start. All 3 visited URI this month. Dan Hurley style High School recruiting. Know who you want and recruit them early. Create an environment with a winning attitude that good players want to be part of.
Yes, all the transfers should have an immediate impact and maybe some of the freshmen.
Still replacing 4 starters and almost all our scoring is a big hill to climb.
That is why I am tempering my expectations for this season.
I am excited about our future especially with the '23 recruiting class,
