Re: GM 11 Football @ Elon 2pm Saturday Nov 20 FloFootball.com
William and Mary was 2.5 point favorites at home to beat Richmond. They lost 20-17 which likely cost them an FCS Playoff spot and oddly enough might have opened the door a crack for URI to get a bid???? Crazy!

Due to other results in the CAA, #URI football is still projected to reach the FCS Playoffs. Rams have 3rd best overall record in the conference.

I know that Thorr is not at the Sunshine Slam this weekend because he is at this meeting.
Thorr is on the FCS Selection Committee

Because of the Richmond upset yesterday over William & Mary on W&M home field.
W&M could have clinched a playoff bid, but instead opened the door for URI.
CAA is arguably the best FCS Conference or at least has been over the past several years.

Several sites have them first out, but the one still has them in.
I wish they had shown better in the losing streak, but the one play that may hurt the most was the scoop-and-score yesterday.

This was also too early. Richmond’s upset of William & Mary game at 3:30pm yesterday changed the picture for Rhody. Personally I never thought William & Mary would lose that game but that’s why they play them.

Thorr was just on ESPNU on the FCS Selection Show and was interviewed about the selections. He was on for at least 5 minutes at about 1pm
Thorr is the FCS Committee Chairman as I originally thought.
He was very well spoken and the panel complimented him on how well he answered their questions and described the decision making
Thorr was specifically asked about how difficult it was to have URI as one of the last teams out and how he had to recuse himself. Thorr spoke highly of URI’s accomplishments this season and how they watched yesterdays game on tv vs Elon yesterday.
Eastern Kentucky, Mercer and Rhode Island were listed as the 1st 3 teams out.
Thorr represented himself and URI with poise, knowledge, confidence and expertise. Great job!!

They lost four of their last six (@Towson loss, @Villanova loss, Maine loss, @UMass win, UNH win, @Elon loss). Four of the last six games were on the road as well. On the flip side, they won two of the last three games.

And in every loss we got handled. It's just crazy to start 5-0 and then completely fall on your face like we did.
The UMass and UNH wins were impressively done, but then how do you go into the Elon game and just fall right back on your face immediately?

Re: GM 11 Football @ Elon 2pm Saturday Nov 20 FloFootball.com
I listened to Thorr on the Selection Show.
One thing they look at is how teams do against teams in the field.
We didn't beat Villanova so we were 0-1. A Umass Victory didn't help much.
We needed to beat Villanova, that would have gone a long way. JMU was 0-1 having
lost to Villanova, also, CAA didn't get many teams in this year, only 2.
The Missouri Valley got 6 I believe and Big Sky got 5.

Injuries. Flemings not going to use that as an excuse. Antrum out, Warren out, Tippett out, Jaylen Smith gets hurt in the first half and is out the rest of the game. We played with a 5th string running back and still got within 8 points. Take the top players off most rosters and the outcome would be similar.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑2 years agoAnd in every loss we got handled. Sorry to correct you, but Richmond was 84, and we also had a home playoff game against Akron in 85. You pretty much nailed the Richmond score, it was 23 to 17 and we had a crowd of 10,446. My recollection of the Richmond weather was it was pretty cloudy and raw, but I was only about to turn 4, so take the forecast with all the grains of salt you can find. I'd love to stumble on to a video of the Richmond gameneil wrote: ↑2 years ago Back in ‘85 I was 36 years old and on a beautiful fall afternoon watched Tom Ehrhardt lead the Rams to a win over Richmond in a first round playoff game. Capacity crowd and I think the final score was something like 24 to 16. Little did I know that game would be the last time the Rams would be in the playoffs. I’m hoping that ends this afternoon. A win and our road record would be 4 and 2. Will we get a home game? Probably not. Similar to the basketball team a couple of years ago losing to Fordham and Lasalle, some people quit this year after losses to Maine, Towson and Villanova.
Go get’em Rams! The streak ends today!!!!

My understanding was that Kasim Hill was on crutches the entire week before the New Hampshire game, so he certainly wasn't close to 100% the last two games and who knows how long he was hurt before that.FmrRamFB wrote: ↑2 years agoInjuries. I'm really excited to see what Warren can do next year, during the Brown game he looked like a mini Gronkowski and was probably the best player on the field that day for either side, though Hill was outstanding as well

Since 2018
17-20 record
10-17 in conference
outscored 1107-996 (3 points per game)
3 winning seasons
2 times being just on the outside of the playoffs
3 players spending time on NFL rosters
I've been very critical of the program, but fair is fair and things have gotten better since 2018. Still stuff it would be good to see improved, but all things considered the program has gotten much better of late

You come on here and spew all sorts of negativity and URI put the most players on 1st team since 1998 and the most overall selections since 1995. Could your timing to trash the program be any worse?
Plus New Field, New Lights, missed the 24 team FCS Playoffs by one single win. 3rd best team in the historically strong CAA FCS Conference.
Your negativity makes no sense when looking at where this team has come the past few years. Steadily building and looking forward to next season with some excellent returnees and another solid recruiting class.
I can see kicking a program when its down, but why are you kicking a program on it's way up?
KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island placed seven players on the 2021 CAA Football All-Conference Team, including first-team selections Joey Kenny, Coby Tippett and Caleb Warren. In addition, Nick Correia, Jordan Jones and L.B. Mack III earned second-team honors, while guard Evan Lovell and Tippett were on the third team.
It is the first time since 1998 that Rhode Island had three first-team selections. The eight overall selections are the most since 1995.
Kenny earned first-team honors for the second consecutive season. As the Rams starting fullback, he caught seven passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns. The burly battering ram also helped Rhode Island average 133.6 rushing yards per game with his lead blocking. A redshirt senior, Kenny played in 51 games over the course of his career at URI.
Warren is a first-time honoree, getting the CAA's first-team slot at tight end. Despite missing three games with injury in the second half of the season, Warren was sixth among all conference players with his 16.7 yards per catch average. He emerged as one of the team's top receiving targets, catching 23 passes for 385 yards and three touchdowns before he season ended prematurely.
Tippett made the all-conference team for the third straight season, this time earning honors at two different positions. He was the first-team punt returner after leading the CAA and finishing sixth in the country with 12.6 yards per return. He had two returns of 50 yards or longer, including a 50-yarder that proved to be the game winner at UAlbany, which earned him CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Tippett's 226 return yards were the fifth-highest single-season total in program history.
Tippett also earned third-team honors as a safety, the third time he has been on the All-CAA Football squad on defense. He finished the season with 41 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, six pass break ups, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 10 games.
Guard Nick Correia, cornerback Jordan Jones and outside linebacker L.B. Mack III both earned second-team honors. Guard Evan Lovell was a third-team selection. Correia and Lovell both started all 11 games at the guard spots. Correia was the right guard, while Lovell manned the left side. They spearheaded a line that allowed just 2.3 sacks per game while helping quarterback Kasim Hill rank third in passing yards and passing yards per game.
Mack led Rhode Island with 11 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. He ranked fifth in the league in sacks and seventh in TFLs, while also finishing fourth on the team with 51 total tackles. In URI's win over Delaware, Mack returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. He was the CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week after recording 4.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks in a win at Massachusetts. Mack wrapped his career second in program history with 38.0 TFLs and fourth with 22.0 sacks.
Jones started every game at cornerback for the defense and finished with six interceptions and eight pass breakups. He led an effort that resulted in the team breaking up 51 passes, the second most in program history. Jones had a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown against Brown, and two interceptions against Stony Brook. The second pick came in the end zone, preventing a game-tying touchdown.

I know, i know. I ‘just got here’. Not sure what relevance that has.
Bad timing? Perhaps. But like taking down statues, it doesn’t change history. I didn’t make an account here to bag on fb. But like other current programs sometimes the truth hurts.
I do want fb to do well. But for 20 years I’ve watched them get their shit pushed in so forgive me if im not overly optimistic.
But again, we can pick it up again in August.
Tell the boys to play nice down the line and on fraternity circle.

Relevance is you are trashing a program that is on the upswing. Not sure why you want to come on a Board and trash a team moving up - other than having been a poster only for 4 weeks maybe you just don't know the program very well.KeaneyBluBallz wrote: ↑2 years ago I know, i know. Sure it's bad timing. Makes zero sense.
If you want the football team to do well then your postings have not shown it.

you can have it, we'll have to agree to disagree.
I'm not sold on the collective 40+ year body of work. there are other programs much more deserving of attention and funds. it's not like they haven't had opportunities.
do something and if there's any room left on the bandwagon, maybe I'll jump on. to this point they haven't done poop.
