He had completely lost control of the team.
Plus revenue was taking a deep dive.....
And still, it took a ton of money from boosters to pay him off. Over a mil I think.

We did beat our 1st FBS team in 21 years on their home field. We were 2 point underdogs and won by 13 playing without our top running backs.Bos8 wrote: ↑2 years agoOn top of that, depth is typically an issue with 1A vs 1AA. With the extra scholarships, you would expect UMass to have a deeper team.bigappleram wrote: ↑2 years ago The alarming thing, if I'm a Umass fan, is that Rhody looked better at almost all the skill positions. And we fielded a lineup with our 3rd string RB and 2nd string TE. Usually when FCS plays an FBS program you immediately see a difference at skill positions and along the D/O lines. In this game our D line dominated them, Mack and Neal were in the backfield all day.
I like to think it was URI’s strength more so than it was UMASS weakness.
Solid win that makes us 6-3 with 2 games to go.
Big game this Saturday vs UNH could say a lot about this years team.

Well if you look at this metric there really isn't much of an actual talent gap between us and them.bigappleram wrote: ↑2 years ago The alarming thing, if I'm a Umass fan, is that Rhody looked better at almost all the skill positions. Rhody comes in as the 148th most talented team while UMass sits at 126th.
UMass just isn't getting the talent to compete at the P5 level and they certainly don't have the coaching.

What a joke! What conference is trying to add UMass football? At least if you offer to go over in all sports you might be a little intriguing to one of these conferencesRF1 wrote: ↑2 years ago Per a FOI request, UMass contacted CUSA, Sun Belt, and MAC conferences this fall about football only affiliate membership:

I wouldn't think either the Sun Belt or MAC would add UMass as a football only member. Their program is among the worse in the nation and adds little if anything let alone doesn't fit the geography of those leagues. CUSA might however be an option as it may need more members just to survive.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑2 years agoWhat a joke! What conference is trying to add UMass football?
