The list of schools he is considering is interesting. Don’t those P5 schools know the kid is no good ?

It's really only 3, because Berry is likely to commit sooner rather than later.

Then I think at that point, you go for best available. Akeem? Murray? Martin? Cole? If you can score two of those, or even 3, I think you have to strike while the iron is hot.
I also don't think we want 6 freshmen.
Agree. They would never go 6 freshman. That is an awful balance, although maybe not with how many players transfer. Five would be the max-Berry and if they got lucky enough to get Audispe. The next would be a transfer. If they miss on Audispe, my guess is some transfers or keep one open spot also

Simple summary:

Well, it looks like Berry is a lock. Leaving three scholarships.

We are looking at either the Mitchell twins and one more player from the list below or Akeem Odusipe and two more players from the list below:

Keon Ellis - G - JUCO
Devin Gage - G - grad transfer
Tray Jackson - F - transfer
Brandon Murray - G
Evan Cole - F - grad transfer
Malik Martin - G - transfer

I'm thinking a commitment by the Mitchell twins or Akeem Odusipe would also knock Evan Cole from contention, based on the fact that the remaining list is almost all people who can shoot the ball, Murray being the best of the list and JUCO Ellis looking like a pretty strong shooter as well as Malik Martin.

Has there even been any confirmation we’re targeting Tray Jackson? I know we recruited him last year but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Is this just a rumor or an actual possibility?

We were on a list on his twitter, I believe.

Speaking of which, I just shuffled the remaining list to reflect the likelihood of getting the player: from realistic to pipe dream...

Others of interest:

Devin Gage - G - grad transfer
Malik Martin - G - transfer
Evan Cole - F - grad transfer
Tray Jackson - F - transfer
Brandon Murray - G
Keon Ellis - G - JUCO

Gage is hot to come here. Malik seems to have been lifted by a mention in the Projo. Evan has a small list we are on. Tray has a similar list. Murray's list get's significantly larger, and then Keon Ellis has 25 teams in his list, mostly P5, so.... yeah

And depending upon who we get there could be additional roster changes

If you are a guy who thinks he may have lose some playing time, just take the Mitchell twins for example, your phone could be ringing from other schools.

The no sit out rule is likely to balance rosters in both directions.

If I’m Toppin and his family I’m probably watching who gets brought in but more importantly how does that affect me and my minutes.

No, you are absolutely correct on that one.

As far as Toppin goes, he went in a positive direction, not a negative. We lost Martin and Long, that was his competition for playing time, he's the starter now as far as I can see. The wing position is wide open, we need someone who can shoot/score and we need that player just for depth at this point.

I think a good example of what you are talking about is someone mentioned on the recruiting page as to why don't we go after Darius Miles.

And the answer to that, ties into what you are saying. We are no longer recruiting Darius Miles, because he and Ishmael Leggett were in head to head competition when we were recruiting them and they didn't want to play together. Now, I feel like we got the better of the two, but if you really want to go ahead and piss Leggett off, starting to recruit Miles again would be the perfect way to go about doing it.

So, yes, the answer is yes that you do have to worry about how players perceive their playing time is affective.

So, in a perfect world, I guess the ideal world of the P5 contender, you aren't looking for 7 new players each year. You have each class evenly spaced out and you are looking for 4 players every year, and you aren't threatening people who only came here because they weren't planning on sitting on the bench.

Absolutely. I’d prefer 35
I wanted 30 this past year
He is too good to have him minutes limited.

Even though they were playing 35 -38 minutes and posters and journalists were talking about how tired and overused they were? And they were still playing in a 30 point margin win over George Washington?

I don’t think Cox plays his bench enough.

Starters are getting too tired in the guard positions.

But let’s see what next season brings. Hopefully more bench minutes to guys like Toppin and Walker.

Toppin's ceiling is higher than Walker's.

I think Jacob should get between 20-25 minutes a game next season, divided between playing the 3 and 4.....

Just hope he stays. He's going to be a very good one by his junior year.

At 20 minutes you think Toppin stays?
He needs to be in the starting line up and playing a minimum 30 minutes.
He has the most potential of any current player on the team.
We cannot afford to lose him over playing time.
These are likely Assistant and/or Head Coaches discussing how much playing time could be available at their schools.

Depending on who is here my starters are:

Fatts
Sheppard
Harris
Toppin
Walker

You could make a case for Legget over Sheppard with Sheppard instant offense off the bench.

Agree with all except Walker. If starters were based on experience alone, it might start that way, but if they get Makhi Mitchell, he's automatically the highest rated player on the team, after Fatts, no way he doesn't get his own 30 mins on this roster. Walker is a nice player, but he's not the entire package and is still developing. He has brilliant moments and real head scratching moments within mins of each other.

There are only so many minutes you can get on potential alone.
Jacob has a great support system and no doubt understands what he needs to do.
He has to get much stronger, work on his handle and have a reliable three point shot.
(His mid-range jumper is pretty consistent because he elevates and has a nice arc. He shoots his threes almost flat footed.)
It is simple - improve in those areas, get big minutes.

Makhi would carve out 30 mins right away, and Osamane would be pushing even the veterans for playing time to get on the floor. You might see him splitting time with Harris as Harris's backup.

I'm basing this on who we actually have on the roster, not what *might* be there. If we have other recruits and transfers, I will adjust depending on who they are.

I don't remember a URI front court with 3 4 star recruits in it.

If Harris lives up to his potential and the twins live up to theirs, this may have been the quickest descent into madness and rebuild in NCAA history.

For an A10 team this is a huge team length and size wise. Kind of resembles ST Louis of this year. Exactly the reason we needed to be patient and let cox go to work and evaluate the players transferring out compared to players coming in. Impressive turn around for Cox and company. Landing berry would be the perfect exclamation point on the last several days.

I think it is leave. Walker didn't enroll at URI until 1st semester this past season if I remember correctly.
