One would hope that the recent success of the men's program would drag some money and interest toward the women's.....

But right now the men's is priority #1 and everything else is a distant 2nd.

I know there have been some home games where the "crowds" have been in the 100 range. What decent recruit would want to play in front of that?

I don't think money spent on the program is as big an issue with the women's game as it is in the men's game. I suspect that the budgets for women's teams is pretty similar for most programs except for the very elite ((UConn/Tenn/Stanford/ND). I would think there are no extreme big spenders in the A-10.

And for crowds, I wonder what the expectations are for attendance. Are other schools getting significantly more than we do when we are decent?

The problem is I don't think there are many good comps in this area. The only semi-successful non-UCONN team in this area is Quinnipiac -- In the last 6 years they've made the tournament four times and won 3 total games (1 Sweet 16). BC hasn't made the tournament since 2006. URI has only made one tournament appearance and that was in 1996. PC hasn't made the tournament since 1992.

Quinnipiac had an average attendance of 984. On 1/4/18, they drew a listed attendance of 37 people (big snow storm). They also had games of 337, 391, and 423. There were some shared home dates with the men's team, I'm not sure what impact (if any) it had on ticketing for those games.

The URI women's team had an average attendance of 869, but that does include a listed attendance of 6,367 for opening night. If you take that game out, the remaining 12 home games drew on average 411 people. Their worst home crowd was 243 for VCU on 1/10. Obviously compared to Quinnipiac, that is light, but how much of the difference is because Quinnipiac has been fielding a competitive, tourney bound team?

URI's attendance is not poor in comparison to PC. PC's average attendance was 513 (low 231, high 1,270). BC's average attendance was 1,266 (not sure on any bumps from double-headers but team only had a few games below 1,000).

In 2016-17 we averaged 450 fans per game, the rest of the A10 averaged 950. The only two schools we had better attendance than were Davidson (436) and La Salle (329). The next team in attendance was Richmond at (619). Dayton had the highest attendance at 2674. That was good for 44th in the nation. The Atlantic 10 was 23rd out of 32 conferences for women's attendance.

Women's average attendance numbers can be slightly misleading ... There are times (like URI game 1), where tickets are part of a "double-header," so even though there may have only been 500 people at the game, they can take a bump of something like 6,300 because that's the amount there to see the men. It's impossible to figure out how many schools utilize this tactic, which if done enough could cause significant fluctuations in the number. If the URI women did it 3x a season, it would say their average attendance would be somewhere around 1,600-1,700. Like I said in a previous post, URI's average attendance was 869 for the season, but that includes 6,367 that were there to see the men's game. There is no way of possibly knowing what teams and how many times per season they are utilizing that (or alternative methods) to boost attendance numbers. I guess this is a long-winded way of saying that URI might not be as bad off as that pure stats make it appear.

Thanks for the post "rj".......URI used one men's game last year.....I'm guessing the average attendance, not counting that game, is 200 to 400 for games I've attended..
It's been years since URI has put back to back average seasons.

She really went from Cincinnati to Seton Hall to Rutgers. That’s a lot of indecision. Not my concern, just hope she’s happy and it works out.
