Nice. let's see 6'9 transfer...Hmmm I remember a very good one we once got. His name was Luther Clay. I will take that again in a heartbeat.

Re: '13 CT F Kuron Iverson (Memphis Transfer)
Think along the lines of Lamar Odom's game.
Very flexible, capable of playing any position on the floor.
Not a banger, by any means, but tall enough to create problems in the passing lanes,
and shoot over or post up smaller guards and forwards.
He's a finesse player.

Re: '13 CT F Kuron Iverson (Memphis Transfer)
With that size though, he should be a HUGE matchup problem for A10 opponents.
Not many 6'9" 2 or 3 guards around in this league. Or forwards even.

Re: '13 CT F Kuron Iverson (Memphis Transfer)
Lots of good
- Pastner seems to have issues with guys
- height that plays like a guard with DH's tendancy to play 4-5 guards
- Clear athleticism to be unleashed with the rest of our defense
- our guys aren't dieing to shoot(they often get to the end of the shot clock and throw it up), he will get shots
- Hassan, Earl, Iverson is a very athletic trio
- Building a stronger bond with Expressions Elite!
- Kid is up against a wall now to be that talent he was once thought to be
Bad?

Pastner seems to be one of those coaches that can recruit, but doesn't develop his players.
A lot of people want him gone.

Re: '13 CT F Kuron Iverson (Memphis Transfer)
Think of Pastner like Steve Lavin at St. John's.
Can recruit like mad, but can't coach, and
has lots of trouble with the players he gets.
I read a few of the comments on the ESPN story
when Iverson left.
The Memphis fans were not too happy and aimed their
ire at Pastner.

Putting him on roster next year with Hassan, EC, Jarvis, JT, Earl, Biggie, Butts and Thompson, it should be as talented as any in the A10.

Totally agree with everybody about the 4 guard lineup point. This is the type of kid you can use in a 4 guard lineup and not take a huge hit in size on the defensive end.

Re: '13 CT F Kuron Iverson (Memphis Transfer)
The only sentence that bothers me in that article, is the one where schools including UConn, backed off Iverson due to questions about his work ethic.
That's before he was signed by Memphis.
Let's hope the maturity process is positive for him here going forward. Dan doesn't need another ____-like headache on his hands.

With UConn, first of all I believe this is just a fan, so that may just be an assumption. Who knows what the recruiting situation with UConn was. Plus, UConn has a lot options recruiting wise

Re: '13 CT F Kuron Iverson (Memphis Transfer)
Iverson's position at Menphis was sitting down, mostly.
This is a team with top 5 star Austin Nichols, who only
averaged 22 minutes a game last year.
To focus on what someone said about UConn recruiting him is
taking the lowest common denominator and making it
number one.
Here's the artcle by ESPN, when Iverson declared for Memphis.
Let's concentrate on the positive for a change:
"Memphis coach Josh Pastner landed his third ESPN 100 commitment in the class of 2013 when small forward Kuran Iverson (Waynesboro, Va./Fishburne Military School) pledged to the Tigers on Monday night over Connecticut and Florida.
Iverson, of Windsor, Conn., is the No. 27 prospect in the ESPN 100 and a cousin of Allen Iverson. His commitment moves Memphis to No. 3 in the 2013 recruiting class rankings.
Biancardi: Potential Big East Star
Paul Biancardi analyzes Kuran Iverson's game and commitment to Memphis, as well as why Iverson could be a star in the new-look Big East. Story Insider
• Finkelstein: Iverson re-emerges Insider | Class rankings
"On my visit, all the people showed me love," Iverson said. "I liked the players and the campus and could see myself there."
According to Fishburne Military coach Ed Huckaby, Iverson chose the Tigers because of their academic support system and because the program will prepare him to be a small forward in the NBA.
"Josh's personality fits Kuran's personality, and Memphis assistant coach Aki Collins did a tremendous job" in recruiting Iverson, Huckaby said.
Iverson is one of the most talented and versatile players in the class of 2013. His size, length, skills and feel for the game allow him to play and defend multiple positions. Simply put, Iverson has an excellent offensive skill package and feel for the game.
"I love their style of play, it fits my game," Iverson said. "Coach Pastner is a great guy and said he would put me in a spot to succeed."
Iverson joins an elite group of perimeter players in next year's Memphis class, which includes the No. 29 overall recruit, small forward Nick King (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis East); the No. 91 overall prospect, point guard Rashawn Powell (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips); and No. 36 shooting guard Markel Crawford (Memphis, Tenn./Melrose)."

Re: '13 CT F Kuron Iverson (Memphis Transfer)
Here's something from a Memphis paper on the Pastner problem, and it's quite and indictment:
"Iverson’s situation embodies the primary problem with Memphis basketball under Josh Pastner – the failure of individual, role and team development. This is not about recruiting or X’s and O’s – generally speaking. It’s about relationships.
"Sure, these are college kids and they all want to start and be superstars and play in the NBA, but it’s a coach’s job to get guys to buy in to whatever role they have to play. Pastner seems incapable of it. Historically, Pastner’s most effective method to trim his rotation and thus get guys entrenched in roles is via injury or suspension. For example, Pastner’s second team began hitting its stride when Wesley Witherspoon was suspended, (following the dismissal of Jelan Kendrick and Angel Garcia’s mid-year defection) freeing up minutes in a crowded rotation for an emerging Will Barton. Charles Carmouche’s mystery suspension the following year cleared out a crowded back court and allowed Joe Jackson to begin to play well. Antonio Barton’s recurring injury problems always propelled Jackson into playing better."
"At the very least one could imagine utilizing Iverson’s length by asking him to become a great defender or energy guy- things that a natural athlete should be able to do without any particular skill development – but that never happened. I’m sure there’s blame to go around, but this was a colossal waste of talent. That’s on Pastner to some degree.
This is yet another top 100 prospect that will leave Memphis after failing to live up to expectations, joining basically everyone but Austin Nichols before him of that category. That kind of track record developing players is not good for recruiting – and clearly the effect is already being felt in that regard. Outside of pulling out all the stops to lock up the Lawson brothers, Pastner has not secured an elite high school prospect in over 2 years (since signing Nichols)."
"Memphis fans are spoiled. Pastner’s predecessor excelled at getting guys to understand they had 1 or 2 jobs on the court and willing them to accomplish those specific tasks. That’s how a guy with basically no talent like Arthur Barclay becomes a double double machine, or how a pure athlete without much of a history in the game of basketball like Rodney Carney becomes an NBA player, or how a guy like Antonio Anderson becomes an all time program guy. Kuran Iverson has more talent and pro potential than Antonio Anderson had – but he’ll never develop it, at least not at Memphis.
That’s Josh Pastner’s problem, and it’s a relationship problem."

Again, I was told all the paperwork was completed yesterday, and
URI was waiting for transcript to officially enroll Iverson.
I have not spoken to anyone today, so that's all I have for the time being.

Re: '13 CT F Kuron Iverson (Memphis Transfer)
This is definitely exciting news for URI and would be a huge get. Given how Iverson washed out in Memphis, this is really a no lose for Hurley. Iverson either gets with the program or gets out.
I know recruiting rankings aren't everything and can be misleading, but I am drooling at the idea that come second semester next year URI will have 3 ESPN 100 recruits in the starting lineup in EC-Terrell-Iverson.

Re: '13 CT F Kuron Iverson (Memphis Transfer)
Re: his lackluster stats, I wouldn't really look too much into them. The sample size is too small, especially if he's having issues with the coach enough that he's transferring. Scott Hazelton also had iffy numbers at a high-major school, and he was a perfectly fine transfer. (I was trying to think of a good player, not best or worst case scenario, which would have been Lamar Odom and/or Ben Eaves.)

It's too bad he didn't leave after freshman year. If he transfers now he'll only play 3 more semesters.

No, in talent, he's clearly a cut above any player on our current roster.
He instantly has more NBA potential just based on his size and
skill set.

All this exciting news has happened so suddenly!
After watching that video of him in his junior year.....woah.
He could teach EC something about dribbling!
There's going to be a lot of anticipation built up until now and December.
We'll have some serious athleticism.
Definite favorites in the A-10 next year.

The last day to register is tomorrow, I think. But I want to say you can still get into classes until the first week of February you just need an override and, if you're a regular student, I think there would be a late registration fee. That is off the top of my head, though.

He'd be a complete fool to go to dUMASS.
He'd have to come here. Great coach, family kind of environment. Guaranteed major minutes while playing with really good players.
