Good detail there. I would group most of the 100-200s together.
Just to shed light on their evaluation Taleon Martin hasn’t been at The Master’s School this entire last year. If they are updating their ranking on him that haven’t seen him play since last summer.

The recruiting media mentions Hurley as often as they can.
Bosewell and Cox were on hand as well. URI has made offers to Springs, Diarra & Hoggard

We have to get a big in the 2020 class. Have to.
I know all the talk has been PG in 2020, but we need to land a front court player as well.
Springs would be great (fantastic, really), but I'd think that UConn has the inside track.

I think URI has a good chance for Richie Springs. Ty has been recruiting him for three years. I was at a Prep Tournament this year and after his game, Ty sat and talked with him upstairs for about 30 minutes. Plays for MacDuffie where Dana went. I know Booknight (UConn) goes there also.

So instead of coaches being able to evaluate hundreds of players at one AAU event they have to go to open gym time at individual High Schools. In addition only 18 out of 51 state high school associations have set up summer events to take the place of the AAU summer weekend showcase events.

For all of us that get caught up in a player being in the Top 100 (myself included). Here is a Top 100 kid who wasn’t good enough to play at a high/mid D1 school and is transferring to Quinnipiac.

Recruiting news will taking a long break now. The Quiet Period (contact only on college’s campus) starts tomorrow followed by the Dead Period (no in person contact) and then another Quiet Period. This runs from May 3 - June 12. Some vacation time for the coaches before the players return for Summer Sessions. Practices should start around June 3rd.

Recruits don’t typically visit campuses in the Spring. They are playing in AAU Tournaments every weekend and still in school.
We could get some visits in June when the team is back for summer classes and practices. July is mostly a Dead Period (no in person contact) except for the weekends that are Evaluation Periods (AAU tournaments & coaches on the road).

Mekhi Long visited the end of June last year and made an early verbal at the end of his visit (June 29th).

Does that mean that coaches can't attend the two Nike EYBL sessions in Indianapolis (next weekend) and Dallas (May 24-26)? Would seem counterproductive to have these sessions if coaches can't attend.

That is correct. They couldn’t attend the AAU sessions in May in past years either. It is still development and good competition for the players. Teams qualify for their championship (in July) based on the April-June performance.

Prior to this year there were three weekends in April and three weekends in July that coaches could attend AAU events. That has been reduced to one weekend on April and one weekend in July.

Summary of changes from the NCAA:
In response to recommendations from the Commission on College Basketball, the NCAA made changes to the recruiting calendar to increase the role of high school programs and reduce the involvement of third parties in the recruiting process:

An Evaluation Period at sanctioned AAU events (April 26-28) was kept. Down from 3 weekends in April.
They added the recent 4 day period that coaches could go to open gyms (April 29-May 2)
An Evaluation at NBAPA Top 100 Camp (June 13-14)
Two Evaluation Periods run by High School Coaches Associations or JUCO Coaches Associations (June 21-23 & June 28-30).
An Evaluation Period at sanctioned AAU events (July 11-14) was kept (this is Nike Peach Jam w/e) down from 3 weekends.
An Evaluation Period at development camps run by NCAA schools/conferences (July 23-28). I think this is for players not invited to Top 100 Camp in June.

thanks for sharing - haven't read the details yet, but that's interesting with how they are managing the schedule. can certainly understand why they want to limit the 3rd party or basically sneaker company involvement, but sounds like high schools weren't prepared this year to handle evaluations for colleges in a lot of states. should be interesting to see if if at has an impact on the lower level recruits, but would think not much of an impact for the top 100 or so.

Only 13 of 50 states have listed events. The complaints for the hundreds of recruits outside the Top 100 are real. Let’s see what the participation and exposure is for the NCAA run Evaluation Period the last week of July. If Cox has his basketball camp at that time, he could invite their to targets to the Elite Camp. It might be tough for them to show up.

You are never done recruiting at anytime if the right opportunity presents itself. I think we would need to find a can’t miss player whether freshman, transfer or juco with the transfer route being the most likely as they could sit a year and help replace Dowtin and Cyril in 2020

Ramster, what is the recent news you are referring to?

Ramstock, partially true. However, there is a process that Cox has in place. They follow that process. If the plan is to hold an open scholarship for a Fall/Winter transfer, they move forward with that plan. Their current focus is on evaluating ‘20s and ‘21s. If you hang on too long trying to fill ‘19s it will have an impact on ‘20s & ‘21s.

One example of a 2019, Hason Ward, from yesterday reported by Corey Evans....
Makes obvious sense to attend the EYBL and other AAU Events for 2020 candidates but all doors should remain open

I would be shocked if the staff wasn't already aware for at least the past month that CT was leaving if he was able to graduate and become a grad transfer. I'm sure plans were put in place for this.

I would prefer a transfer who sits a year and has 2 or 3 years eligibility when Jeff and Cyril graduate

Never believed that Thompson was returning without a doubt as was often indicated here by some.

In postseason player interview with Coach Cox, Christion communicated that he planned to stay at URI for next year.

Not sure what changed his mind. It could’ve been the recruitment of Sheppard or other factors.

I think they will get one more player. The second scholly might not be available until the Fall. I think they will hold that for potential mid year transfer. No idea who they use the scholarship on (‘19, grad transfer or transfer).
