Rhode Island: C. Sitting with the best class within the Atlantic 10 Conference, URI missed on a few of its frontcourt targets but they were also proactive in landing Marial Mading, a high-upside forward from the region. Mekhi Long will bring toughness and a defensive prowess and Gregory Hammond gives a strong scoring punch to David Cox’s program.

Are they saying that this year's class is the best (Tate, Harris, Martin, Silverio) or that our incoming class is the best? Seems early still to declare our class #1 in the league, given that Spring will likely bring with it more signings? Agree it's a fair assessment.

No, it’s about early signing period for this year.

I honestly thought it meant that this years class (Harris etc.) was the best and then went on to discuss the incoming class. Could easily be taken both ways though now that you mention it.

How do you have the best class in the conference and get a C? I think this is clearly a B class, didn’t hit the homerun A level class but better than an C.

Although if it is C because the perception is the bar is raised and we should be recruiting at a better than then the best in conference level, I can get behind that.

But reading the article it clearly is about this year early signing period. All the players named for all of the teams is for 2018 November Signing period.

I think the short answer is the grades are meaningless and it’s a clickbait type article- which, I clicked, so mission accomplished. Are they grading by gets versus targets? Gets versus needs?

What is does seem to indicate, though, is that recruiting conference-wide at this point is less than spectacular. So, that would explain an average grade but also best in the A10.

I think he was making a funny. :) Always tough to account for the differing experience levels of posters here, but at the time, some posters were convinced that we could have gotten Juiston if only we had "focused" more on him.

We had a shot, but once Carr left that shot was gone. We never brought Juiston in on a visit though so hard to say someone was taken instead of him. Both Toppin and Preston came in for "try-outs" for lack of a better term. Toppin impressed with his skill, Preston impressed with his athleticism. In the end, if you're Dan Hurley you can point to a game where Preston helped you last year (Seton Hall). Toppin wouldn't have been able to do that, hence why he red-shirted at Dayton last year. In the long run it seems as if Toppin will have the better career.

Toppin was redshirted last season by Dayton because he was an academic non qualifier. so he would not have been available to play for URI until this season. What I have seen of him has shown him to be ahead of all of the URI freshmen, but he has had an additional season of practice in all fairness.

I believe Toppin was an academic "red shirt" , as in involuntary because he was declared academically ineligible by the
NCAA Clearing house. Rhody was looking for immediate front court help for the 2017-18 season. Hence Preston and not
Toppin. As far as Juiston goes there were a ton of programs chasing him and I remember most were quite surprised
he ended up at Las Vegas.

He is two years older than most of Rhody's Fr.
He is a 20 year old Freshmen and will be 21 years old in March.

Yes, that was my final point that he had a redshirt year that gave him somewhat of an advantage over the URI true freshmen. and as you point out 83 Toppin is older as well.

Totally off subject, but does anyone know what the deal is with Nick Richards at Kentucky? The last four games he has played only 12, 10, 9 and 1 min.
Is Calipari trying to push him out?

I think an even bigger surprise is Jahvon Quiverly - 5 star PG prospect at Nova.

He's averaging less than 7 minutes and 3 points per game. Hasn't even played in 2 of the 8 games. Been a complete non factor on a Nova team in transition with only 3 returning players.

Big HS game in Philly yesterday. Ace did you see it?
Roman Catholic vs Imhotep.
RC won the battle of 1 vs 2 82-69.
Seth Lundy (Penn State) led the way with 27. Fr Jalen Duran (6’8” F) had 17 points & 14 rebs for RC.
For Imhotep Donta Scott had 24, Chereef Knox had 21 and Bishop only had 9.

Unfortunately, no. Holiday family obligations really get in the way of basketball watching! I even still have yesterday’s win on the DVR to watch.

The NCAA announces the four sites for their camps next summer. They are at four colleges. It seems like a recruiting edge for those four schools. UCONN is hosting the East site. This is in place of a week of AAU tournaments.

Bishop only played 12 minutes with no points and no fouls in Imhotep’s huge upset of #4 Ranked University School and Vernon Carey. No action as you said Friday against #3 Ranked Oak Hill where Imhotep pulled another huge upset.
My guess is he got injured. He played 26 minutes with 13 points in Imhotep’s first win of the tournament over Osceola HS.

Imhotep plays 10th Ranked McEachern for the City of Palms Championship tonight at 7:30pm.

Imhotep is Ranked #20 but that will certainly change on Monday’s USA Today Top 25 rankings

So, 83 has said PG is a focus for the 2020 class, but it may be better to get one in the 2019 class.
I totally understand the scholarship count, but it would be nice for a young PG to be able to work with Jeff for a year.
Either that or a transfer PG. Not sure we want to have just Fatts and a frosh in 2020.

Just my opinion.
