bigappleram wrote: 5 years ago It's less about the minutes distribution for me, as I agree there will be minutes to be had (Omar's, less minutes from Fatts/CT). It's moreso blending their 3 styles of play, all of which are very similar in that they are ball reliant. But perhaps all 3 wont be on the court at same time all that often and this is less of an issue. I do really like this pick up for the year after this one when Jeff leaves and we will be in desperate need of established ball handlers and scorers.
BAR: You make a great point but it's hard to fill a need perfectly. Sheppard would fill the need for outside shooting and a guard who can break down his defender. I'll take it, and the staff can work everything out later.
Agree.
There are two teams in the Sweet 16 (Houston & Tenn) that start two ballhandling combo guards.
I would expect two of them (Jeff, Fatts, Sheppard) on the floor together most of the game (if not the entire game).
I think all three of them will be on the floor for very few minutes if any.
Hammond could see some time at SG depending on how he adjust.
We have Martin, Thompson and some of Tate’s time at the SF. With the Fr Long & Mading coming in.
We have Cyril, Harris, Walker & some of Tate’s time at the PF & C positions.

I don’t think Cox wants to have to rely on contributions from any of the Fr. This is a year to get in the Tournamrnt.
If any of the Fr step up, they will compete for playing time. Other than Jeff and Cyril, the playing time for everyone else could be reduced if other players at their position outperform them. I think Mading, Long & Hammond will be brought along slowly unless the some of the Soph & Jr struggle.

That would be so uncharacteristic of Cox. He’s a true gentleman.
What's funny is he isn't the one who heard it. It was supposedly his buddy and he decided to run with it and tweet it out to get VCU fans riled up.
So...am I the only one that wouldn't be that bummed if it were true?
Yes. In fact, Cox may have been on to something..

That is not accurate.

Cooley and Ewdards met over a month ago. Cooley told Edwards his playing time wasn’t going to increase next year. Edwards expressed that he wanted to transfer to get more playing time. Classy move by PC to include him in Sr Night festivities.

MAL’s father had issues with Cooley publicly (calling Cooley out on Twitter) and privately (screaming at Cooley right outside PC locker room as team entered right after a game). MAL hasn’t lived up to his recruiting status. The only surprise was that he didn’t transfer in January.

Doesn’t seem like these are impact players. They also graduated four guys and have two others that both tore their ACLs this past season so likely won’t play next season - that leaves them with two returning players. They’ve already got commitments from four new players and will likely end up with twice that. It will be interesting to see how well Dooley does retooling that roster since he was a candidate here and his hire likely would have met with a similar turnover of the roster. I think at least one of his former players has announced a transfer already, right?

The Dayton transfer is odd in that he was a starter as a soph.

Rhody has done a nice job of getting quality transfers to buy into their system. Last few have had major impacts on the program.

Some of these transfers should be marked with an asterisk of sorts. With the right coaching hire, a few of these guys may return to their teams,

Walker was going to be part of Georgetown’s regular rotation. He got in a fight with another GTown athlete (from a different sport) and was thrown off the team. I believe it was his second incidence. It was not talent related.

Theres definitely worse things than fighting somebody.

I think DC Rams was saying he needed to get away from a bad crowd.

I trust our group can influence him in a positive way.

And I hope hes kick ass

Agreed, I see Kingston being a great environment for him. Also it's sometimes good to get away from your hometown.

Disappointing. I had hopes that Alabama would be good. They were not far off from an NCAA bid this past year. With the coach exiting, it appears many players are following. That home game is losing luster fast.

Hope we do not see a similar scenario with LSU once Wade is shown the door. We need good OOC opponents.

I think Oats will be able to keep some of the Alabama players who’ve entered the portal in the program, ultimately. As far as LSU, maybe they’d have had some concerns if Yale knocked them out as I tragically predicted in my office pool bracket  but the reality is that now they’re in the Sweet 16 the interim coach will likely keep the job and I’d be shocked if a bunch of current players that otherwise would’ve been back decide to jump ship. I guess we’ll see, but from a URI scheduling perspective seeing them get to the second weekend was probably the best thing we could’ve hoped for.

I don’t mean to disparage anyone here, and part of me never likes to see guys leave the family, but to be totally frank if you told me before the off-season that two guys were going to transfer out, this would have been the best case scenario for URI.

I'd love to grab the ECU kid and the shooter from Odessa, and pass on the big.

IMO add 1 impact transfer and we are a strong NIT team, add 2 impact guys and we are going dancing. Critical few days for our 2019-20 season coming up right now. Have to quickly evaluate and sell talent, should be able to sell PT and a shot at playing in March which are two great assets.

I wish Tertsea the best. He seemed like a good team member. He never got in any trouble and never publicly complained about a lack of playing time. Seemed to get along with everyone. Glad he got on the court in Brooklyn at the A-10 tournament given it would ultimately be the end of his time at URI.
