Wow best OOC schedule since nam'

Schedule is awesome. So pumped off the season tix now.

I would expect a CAA team to be added.

With only two open spots left, we shouldn't have trouble filling up our schedule like the last two years.

I still see 3 left....if we are to have 13 OOC games, 10 are now accounted for.

I'm going to predict the following for filling out the remaining OOC schedule:

1 Home Game vs low-RPI team for season opener
1 Home Game vs solid program - thinking a team similar to Belmont last season
1 Away Game vs solid program (maybe as part of home & home) - thinking a team similar to Valpo, Houston in past seasons

LaSalle has released their full OOC schedule. They have just five home games as they will be playing five neutral site games:

Yes my fault, thought the maximum amount of games was 30, not 31.

Dan had said he wants 2 road OOC games, so I think it's safe to assume we get one against a solid opponent.

Love this schedule. Best I can remember in my time following URI hoops.

^Holy Cross is not a neutral game - it'll be in Worcester.

It's a nice schedule. Best ever? Probably not. In 1998 we had TCU # 25, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati #17, and Wisconsin all at home in KEANEY. We also played Utah #21 and Cal on the road.

TCU and Vanderbilt were played at the Civic Center as part of the CoSida Classic. Cincinnati and Wisconsin were also at the Civic Center. Utah was a neutral site game in Chicago as part of the Great Eight. Only California was a true home or road game -- URI played in Berkeley.

According to a quick glance of the records, the last real name nonconference game URI played at Keaney Gym was Boston College in 1985-86.

Agreed with most folks here -- 2017-18 schedule is an intelligent one. It's exactly the type of schedule a program who hopes to be an annual A10 contender should be playing.

Dan mentioned a team like Princeton for scheduling...so i agree with Iggy, mid to high tier team from the CAA/Ivy caliber conference is a likely addition.

I'd rather play Yale...they were solid last year even without their star PG Mason.

Top of the Ivy is usually a decent game

Harrick scheduled far more PCC games than Skinner. He liked the bigger stage.

He might have liked the bigger stage but the teams he was bringing in to play at the PCC was the way to get the good teams to come play us at home. Harrick thought big right from the start. Most of these teams would not come to play us at Keaney.

True. The only way URI got good OOC opponents to play them in RI during the 80's and 90's was to host the game at the PCC. Over the years (not just the two season under Harrick), URI was able to schedule name teams such as Oregon, Arizona, UConn, Texas, Wake Forest, UNLV, California, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, TCU, and Tulsa at the PCC. These type of teams would likely never have come to Keaney. Sadly, from looking back at past OOC slates, I suspect it was easier to schedule bigger names back then. I think high profile teams played far more road games during that time.

Hmmm....the inlaws live in Miami and it's less than 2.5 hours away - this is going to have to happen.

The St Bonaventure beat writer is reporting that URI and SBU will be paired by the A-10 for a H&H. The league tries to pair the top teams to help their RPI resume and quest for quality wins. URI had conference H&H's last year with UMass, SJU, LaSalle, Davidson, and Dayton. That means at least one of these teams will not be a H&H this season as SBU replaces it.

Davidson maybe, thinking that they'll take a step back without Gibbs and the travel is better for us going to Olean than Davidson? The bad news is it means it's unlikely we'll be home and home with VCU. The good news is it means it's unlikely we'll be home and home with Fordham.

If stuff like that is already coming out we should be hearing the full schedule minus dates at any time now.

Nice to avoid both Duquesne and Fordham. That's a really solid set for Rhody. The games haven't always been the most fun to attend, but I'll miss not having the second Philly game.

Looks like some of this has changed, Koch is saying that we host Holy Cross this year

I'm going to change this year's Holy Cross game to a home game based on the most current information.

Quick takeaways -- the coaching staff said EC has added some muscle to his frame since the season ended; Ryan Preston was in attendance, looks as advertised, an athletic 6'7 SF/PF; Hurley said season ticket sales are up as they should be and they have two remaining games to schedule; Watching these guys up close is impressive, tremendous athletes and seem to be strong character guys also.

Based on the above post made 06/12/17 in the Father / Son Basketball Camp thread, it sounds like there is additional OOC opponent likely already scheduled, that we are not yet aware of, if they do intend to have a full 31 game schedule.

I know at the "Evening with Dan Hurley" in Boston, they indicated they were hoping to get one good neutral site game at Nassau on Long Island. I don't know what became of it, but they were working on it.

I always wondered why they don't play two games on long road trips. Line up a game after Alabama (say, Charleston). Wouldn't be too hard and I would think it would be cheaper than two separate road trips. I thought they could've done that when they went to Nebraska, too.

Probably mostly due to not trying to have the guys miss too much school.

Rothstein says we're hosting Charleston

College of Charleston was 25-10 with an NIT appearance last year.

Another solid addition to the home schedule.

They have a nice new 5k seat $45M arena right in downtown Charleston that opened in 2008. I wonder if it is a home and home series. Many of the CAA teams URI has recently played were. In fact URI gave CAA member George Mason a 2-1 in their favor with them paying URI for their 2nd home game.

The other possibility is that they are one of the two NIT Tip-Off opponents that URI will host at the Ryan Center (other two games at the Barclays Arena in Brooklyn).

Remember when people questioned DH's ability to schedule and proposed that the solution was to start earlier, and plan more. Like they were sitting on their asses doing nothing. Second year in a row with a very above average OOC schedule.

I mean clearly he read this board and all of a sudden realized you were allowed to start scheduling earlier. Come on BAR!

Looks like that's one of DH strengths. I think he saw what happened at Bona 2 years ago their scheduling cost them a bid and he vowed that scheduling will never cost us a berth
