Got a few offers out to Texas kids in the past couple days - any idea who's working that territory? ARD?

Yes, one of them mentioned ARD in a tweet.

Anyways, it didn't take Bob Sr. long to send Little Bobby a 4-star recruit.

It looks like we didn't even inquire, at least according to rivals. I don't want to make a big deal about it, because I don't think Bobby Sr. is obligated to steer kids our way, and I'm not even sure he could if he wanted to. But I do think it is interesting that whatever has prevented Dan from getting a kid from St. Anthony, it doesn't seem to apply to Bobby.

We are now involved with 4 of the rivals 150. Naji Marshall at #62, Tyler Polley at #83, Darius Perry(although unlikely) at #87 and Sid Wilson at #132. If we can get one of the guards and one of the forwards, that would be an outstanding recruiting year.

But Wilson is an '18 now. The priority continues to be a wing and a pg, while keeping a third opening (a guard) a possibility.

I know this isn't the place for this but I am selfishly hoping for more eyes and feedback than if I posted somewhere else. I have a cousin, not from this area, being recruited by Brown Lady's basketball and was looking for some insight on the program and the coach for them. I am pretty versed in the men's game but can't contribute any helpful information for women's. If anyone is familiar with Brown women's basketball any information or advice you could offer would be helpful.

Thanks

Awfully quiet on the recruiting front. Last summer, we were getting news of visits being scheduled for September and October for the 4 kids we signed. Lots of offers, but no visits.

Everything happened really quickly last September, but I think they're at about the same spot as last season, with possibly half as many spots to fill.

All four of the guys that committed didn't announce official visits until mid to late August and then three of four committed during their officials (Layssard 9/13, Tertsea 9/20, Dowtin 9/27). Langevine visited the same time as Tertsea and committed 9/24. Tertsea and Langevine also made low-key unofficial visits last summer. The staff prefers not to hold official visits until school is back in session, and URI starts a little later than others, so we'll again hear about other visits before Rhody has theirs.

It's been a while since we've had to deal with the possibility of someone leaving for the NBA. How does the staff handle that as far as recruiting? Obviously when someone from a school like Duke or Kentucky declares early, they just recruit another 4 or 5 star player to take his place. We can't do that in May or June. I have no idea how EC will be this year and if he'll still be considered a 1st round prospect, but there is the possibility that he leaves. Robinson could also choose to transfer as a 5th year player. I guess my question is, how does the staff handle recruiting, especially in the early signing period, when they know they have 2 spots open, but it could be 3 or 4?

You'd probably be looking to recruit EC's replacement at this point anyway. If he's on the team as a senior, or if he's gone because he's in the NBA, I think Hurley can leverage either into a positive. (i.e. "You can learn from this all-A10 guy!" or "Look at this guy I coached that's in the league!") For similar reasons, it wouldn't surprise me if Hurley uses Munford's cup of coffee in the NBA as a recruiting tactic, since he didn't seem like a guy that was on anyone's NBA radar before he came to URI.

I come on multiple times a day and see kids we are recruiting.....then they blow up...and we lose them to power 5 schools....and wait for that special kid who stays loyal to a smaller school even when the big boys start calling......the kids we sign this upcoming cycle probably are kids we haven't even listed in this general recruiting topic....

I think the reality of recruiting is that you just continue to build inroads with the AAU community and hope that one day your program becomes big enough to become the pipeline rather than the ugly step sister. It's part of the game, if you want to dream big, you can't be afraid of losing in the process. You go big after these kids and they blow up and want nothing to do with you, you move on and hope to fill them with ~Top 150 guys.

Darnell Rogers, the 5'2" son of Shawnta, is no longer committed to George Washington. He's a '16, so I think it's unlikely that he can play this year. I don't know the story, but I'm kind of disappointed not to be able to see him play in the A10. I was intrigued about his prospects.

Basketball

He does play wide receiver on his football team that went 0-10 last season so he nay fit in with our team if he decides to play both.

Interesting the football coach is also the basketball coach

21. Rhode Island Rams: David Cox
There has been some staff turnover the past couple of years, including the aforementioned Murray and Murphy, but Cox is well-connected in the Washington area from his days with the D.C. Assault AAU program. One player from Cox's catalog to keep an eye on will be D.C. guard Jeff Dowtin. Jim Carr gets a nod for recruiting Hassan Martin.

I know we only have on spot available for the 17' class but the 18' class will have four or so spots available. On the recruiting front, it's been extremely quiet on that end lately. We all know that doesn't mean much if anything but I wonder what is happening behind the scenes to get into position to land some top 150 prospects for next years class.

I imagine they're already involved with some people, but some of the thinking is probably that they don't want to lock in too early with some players, for a variety of reasons. 1) Players can develop and change, in positive and negative ways. 2) The caliber of recruit URI can get involved with probably changes if they're in the Top 25 most of the year and a clear tourney team, vs. one that just looks that way on paper.
