Our net still improved with the win, and since Duquesne's head coach took over they had our number with a 2-13 record against them before last night

Sunday vs 11-4 (2-1) Davidson
Wednesday at 14-4 (2-2) UMass

Rhody in today's bracket as the A-10 auto-bid, 12 seed playing 5 seed Oregon.

One thing I'm curious about: I see UMass on the bubble (next four out)... if URI doesn't secure the auto-bid, how close are they to an at-large?

The women's NET rankings have UMass at 49, and URI at 50, so... Probably pretty close! :D It's annoying to find rankings from last year, but one site has the final rankings here. Wikipedia's numbers seem to be from at time of selection. It looks like the last at-large team (BYU) had a NET of 50, with some others (Syracuse, South Dakota State) in the 40s. Doing some searching on that page, whatever teams had NET of 37 and 39 didn't make it, so that seems to be where the cut-offs start. You probably need to have a NET of 35 or better to feel "safe" about your tourney status.

NET WBB A10
49-UMASS
50-URI
57-Dayton
59-Fordham
84-VCU

NET MBB A10
38-Davidson
68-VCU
69-Dayton
75-Saint Louis
97-URI

The A10 WBB has 4 teams <60 NET. A10 MBB has only 1 team <68

So A10 WBB is in better shape for At large. Both have 68 teams as the WBB added 4 teams this year to go to 68 - same as MBB now.

I think the A10 WBB is in good shape to have at least 1 at large team. WBB also has higher ranked teams than MBB so playing one another can strengthen one’s NET.

Clearly A10 WBB should have a better chance at at large bids than A10 MBB

Both now with 68 teams.

Still a long way to go.

URI woman with up big 2nd quarter and lead 37-19 at halftime.

Same espn+ broadcast team. Stone Freeman and the woman (I don’t know the name) that everyone was complaining about. I noticed a significant difference- she’s much improved today. She’s clearly working on her skills. Or maybe she’s more knowledgeable and confident with the Women’s game (or both). Either way she’s much improved.

URI does indeed win again, 68-54. Well-rounded performance; looks like they were able to work in nine players, probably because the game was in hand.

URI WBB win over Davidson on Sunday afternoon is the 8th straight win.
  • The 8-0 streak matches the program's longest winning streak, which was set during the 1978-79 season.
  • The victory also gives Rhody a 5-0 start to Atlantic 10 play for the first time in program history.

My two cents is that she's much more confident doing the women's games. She's been really solid on those broadcasts and clearly has a strong knowledge of the team.

That's definitely a valid take - and I hope it translates to her performance covering the men as well. It seems that Stone and Paige are the assigned team for the Espn+ broadcasts. Honestly if I hadn't heard her cover the men last week and only read the comments on the board, I would have thought it was a completely different person covering the women's game yesterday.

Found this bracket updated today... URI women in as an at-large... a 'last four in' team playing in the play-in round.

https://www.collegesportsmadness.com/wo ... acketology

The bracket has them playing Tulsa in the play-in, with the winner of that playing Florida Gulf Coast. Which is honestly an amazing troll of the men's team and their two most disappointing non-conference losses. Clearly not intentional but objectively funny nonetheless.

URI beats UMASS 60-46.
Dolly Cairns played all 40 minutes and had a great shooting night 6-10 FG, 2-4 3FG for 14 points. This was Dolly's 6th consecutive start since Tammi moved the Sophomore into the starting line up on January 12 against George Washington
Emmanuelle Tahane 8-14 FG, 5 rebounds, 5 assists for 18 points
Great team effort on offense and on defense

URI goes to 16-3, 6-0

9th Consecutive Win for URI

Dayton beat Richmond 80-57 tonight to stay undefeated in A10 conference play

Last Weeks A10 Player of the Week Sam Breen played 33 minutes for UMASS, 3-12 FG, 6 rebounds, 3 TOs for only 6 points

Wow! That was fun. Start to finish ass whooping on the road against a top 50 net team. Coach Tammi is just so confident. She has done a tremendous job of spacing and figuring out Elmore, Tahane and Foppossi together. Cairns is no joke! Love watching that young ladies game. Williams has a motor and has played a lot of basketball. Kid is fearless! They are rolling.

This team got off to great start going 7-0 and then lost 3 games in a row. Tammi put Cairns in the starting line-up and made changes to the offense. Started playing more of the match up zone and mixing in their full court zone press. She shortened the bench and we win 9 games in a row. The interior passing and execution is really impressive.

So well coached and so locked in. The last nine games has been really something. Holy shit our Women's Basketball Team is 16-3! The doormat of the A-10 for a long time is now undefeated in league play and received a vote in a National poll. The hiring of Tammi and Dan give me hope that Thor will make a great hire when Coach Cox is let go.

I posted this earlier this week. Tammi talking to the team about the importance of efficiency even if up by 20 points. It is in regard to the NET and how important the NET is to the A10 getting any At-Large Bids. Even with NET's of 48, 50, 55 there is no guarantee that those NET's will get an A10 Team in the Field of 68.

Tammi also said before the season started that it was very difficult to get P5 and high ranked teams on the schedule this year. She said Teams she used to be able to call and hopefully get OOC Games with were not willing to play. Our best OOC games were University of Virginia and Long Beach State in Virginia Tournament. So Tammi knows the importance of driving the NET higher and making sure her players know this.

What was very interesting is that the projo sent Bill Koch to Amherst to cover this game instead of to Cincinnati for PC @ Xavier. I never would have thought that. I don't know if the projo sent anyone to Xavier or is using a stringer. For as much as we complain about projo coverage and sometimes rightfully so, this is awesome. The women's team deserves coverage of BK's ability.

Enjoyed the trip tonight and the game. URI women are legit. Metrics will have the final say, but they certainly have the look of an NCAA contender.

In terms of decisions, we haven't done any air travel yet to avoid eating a ticket. PC-Creighton would have cost upwards of $700 with airfare and hotel to have the game postponed that afternoon. Can't happen. Will change for March/conference tournaments/NCAA Tournament as needed, but unlikely unless it's a real showdown regular season game.

PC-Xavier, with two ranked teams, would be staffed by AP -- that means game story and photos at minimum. PC also is giving us Ed Cooley on Zoom after every road game, so the couch coverage is still an option -- Mark Daniels had that. I took the drive as the primary college writer. That's my responsibility, and I'm happy to do it.

I'll be at URI-VCU women on Sunday and in New York next week for PC-St. John's and URI-Fordham on back-to-back nights. But we're stretched pretty thin with the PC men, URI women and Bryant men all performing like this. I don't need to tell you which of those entities draws the most eyes with respect to business. But I'm trying to cover everyone and everything possible within a reasonable distance.

We've also got a road game with Fordham originally scheduled for January 9th that was postponed and has not yet been rearranged. Let's hope that a date can be found, because that would be another Q1 opportunity for us. Assuming that both sides earn a double-bye, perhaps the game could be played on the Monday or Tuesday leading up to the A10s.
