I have a feeling a lot of games this year are going to rest on the shoulders of Fatts and Dowtin. Especially early on in the season. As they go… We go.

Tate looks great. Toppin looks very serviceable as a regular rotation guy that seems to have a decent 3 point jump shot as added bonus to his freaky athleticism. When Walker returns we’ll have some long lineups.

Dowtin + Fatts are the key to our success - especially in a guard heavy A10.

Need to win 1 of 3 against PC, WV, LSU and stay away from bad losses.

The announcer in the URI game said he thinks URI point guard Jeff Dowtin Jr has a shot at NBA next year he had 21 points tonight on 9-11 shooting there were lots of scouts there mostly to watch 2 Bama players but they must have come away impressed with Dowtin
Celts has 4 scouts there

A great game and great atmosphere but w/o any kind of phone service and a scoreboard that wasn’t accurate there was no way to know how many pts/fouls players had.

I thought it was telling that Cox put in Toppin during crunch time at the end. Perhaps he liked a matchup better but it’s a sign of confidence in the kid. Long looked confident too but Hammond looked a little lost.

I think Hammond will be fine once he gets his legs under him. The transition from HS to college takes getting used to. I can’t get over the fact that he looks like he’s 13.

That being said, I think he’ll have a very good career at Rhody.

1 of 3 vs those teams would disappoint me. I’d be unhappy with anything less than a win vs PC and a split against the other two.

Great time at the Ryan Center. Alabama was playing a physical brand of basketball/football/hockey and got away with a couple ridiculous uncalled fouls. I like Tate in these games when the officials are letting them play. Jermaine must feel like a marked man out there with some of the forearms and shoves that he was taking without any calls. URI looked really locked in tonight. The crowd seemed to fill in late. What was the attendance?

I predicted 7,000+ if students showed up. They did.
Some other posters were predicting doom and gloom for attendance.

Right!?!? Very frustrating. Tonight they were just plain wrong. What I also find frustrating is that they only have the stats up while the game is in action. They never have the stats up when someone is shooting free throws or during timeouts...you know...when you can actually look at them without missing game action.

Very good games from Fatts, Jeff, Dana & Jacob.
The bench scored 25 points!
Breakout game for Dana. I think Dana and Jacob are going to get more comfortable with each game.
Rotation looks like seven until Walkers gets back.

While happy with the win, I was still nervous about the outcome even though Rhody led by double digits for the majority of the game. It started to get dicey midway through the second half and memories of the last half versus Maryland crept into my head. URI gave up far too many easy drives to the basket in the 2nd half. For the life of me, I don't know why Oats had Bama heaving up bad three point attempts early on when it was soon revealed they could almost score at will in the paint. The Tide players drove the lane like threading a needle. They were quick and athletic and effortlessly blew past and around Ram defenders to the basket.

Will give Rhody credit for hanging tough when things got tight. They did not shrink. The pressure also did not get to them at the line as their ft shooting was excellent all around tonight. Happy for the win as it was needed. On to the next game versus a Nicholls State team that has a win at Pitt and took Illinois in Champaign to OT before losing. Will be interesting to see if there is any letdown after the emotional win tonight. If so, that could spell trouble.

Celts has 4 scouts there

I've said this for a couple of years now. Dowtin has the highest basketball IQ for any URI player in the Ryan Center era.

The biggest takeaway I have from last night is the passing. That's the best passing I've seen from any URI team in a long time, maybe since I've been really watching them in 2002. How many great passes did we see creating easy layups?

I liked the play when Jeff made a bounce pass to CL, CL bounce pass back to Jeff for the dunk. Threaded the bama player perfectly.

Langevine played with great intelligence yesterday. First couple of possessions, he tried to force it against double teams. Then he adjusted to a pass-first mentality which opened everything up.

Langevine’s passing ability will open up the high-low game with Harris in addition to getting the slashers some layups cutting to the basket.

Harris looked to be favoring his chest/shoulder area. Any news on what happened and if he’s ok?

Harris played pretty well aside from fouling. We need his size and Tate is a great 6th man. He’s impressed me. Topin too.

Agree with all this. I think Long can give them 10 minutes or so. He looks like a high IQ glue guy to me. Defends, can make a shot, gets in passing lanes, etc.

The big question is who can step up if/when Fatts and/or Jeff need to rest. Hopefully Tyrese can step up.

The more I see Jermaine the more I think he is playing out of position at the 4. He can be our center the next two years. I am fine with him continuing to start but I also think we are going to see a lot of smaller lineups with Tate and/or Toppin in there with Cyril or Jermaine.

Another thing. I thought Cox did a nice job switching over to zone a few times late in the game. It was just enough to slow down Bama a little bit at the end of their run. Good coaching move IMO.

We see this every year - there’s two reasons for why this happens:

1. People do tend to want to voice frustration more than satisfaction, which is true for all fan bases and not just this one. But also losses tend to lead to people arguing and sniping at each other also which adds to the post count.

2. A good portion of the difference has to do with home/away. We have way less people on during and after home games because so many of our posters go to the games.

I don’t think it is a reflection of the fan base not being enthused or excited about a win.
