I can't stand this. We have to win this, if it's really down to only us and Marquette.
Any chance we can get an early verbal before the spring signing period?

Even more puzzling is that Cordischi sounds excited for URI, adding an exclamation point to the comment.

Preston needs to stay with Garrett this weekend. And every weekend until he commits to us.
Maybe move in with him, even.

PC was not in his final 5 so I don't what Go Local is talking about. I'm hearing Garrett might like Marquette more than Marquette likes him. URI staff is working this hard

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
Him being from there, I'm sure is the reason he's interested.
Without that, I think it looks really good for us.
We need him a hell of a lot more than they do, by looking at their roster.

I actually just congratulated him on a good game about 30 mins ago (with a #goRhody tag) and he responded rather quickly, "Thanks greatly appreciate it"

We need him to verbal this weekend.
No one else is on him right now. We need a good PG recruit. Marquette doesn't.
Case closed.

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
Sounds like Jarvis wants them to offer him. Not good if they do.
Lets hope they don't, and maybe he's ours.
And Rod, why not?
It clearly looks like we're in the lead for him right now. Marquette may or may not even want or need him.
Strike while the iron is hot if they can. Twomonths to spring signings. I know a verbal isn't binding, but it would be awesome news for this program.
Kids do verbal during and right after these prep tourneys.

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
Simple, because if he really wants Marquette,
he'll wait as long as possible to see if that develops.
If you think you have a chance to go to the prom with
your ideal girl who hasn't said she'd go with you, you'll wait until the very end before you go with your
second, less attractive choice.
He has no need to verbal before April, unless Marquette completely
closes the door to him.

Yeah I guess. It will suck if he waits on them. Would show that he really doesn't want to come here imo.
Hopefully staff will convince him otherwise.

Excellent to see that Garrett is performing so well in front of our staff. Hopefully they can lock him down in the near future. If he has more performances like he did yesterday, Hurley could practically offer him the PG spot right away for next season.

We heard that we were a lock for Terrell, too.
Take nothing for granted. Some BCS school
swooping in at the last minute could spoil the party.
I wish we were in on the St. Anthony's PG. He's
going to be class valedictorian, and has been accepted by
Princeton and Penn.
He's starting to blow up, with his recent fine play.

Dickerson is from NYC, I coached him is Baron Basketball Camp. He went to California for prep school.rodfromcranston wrote:I remember Trey Dickerson. I think he's from CA.
He wanted to go to a 4 year school, but his grades didn't permit that,
but he has a couple of Big 10 schools on his list, and some so-so Eastern schools
like Fordham and FIU.

He committed to Murray State, decommitted, and wound up a juco.

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
Notre Dame Prep vs. Mt. Zion Prep
In a game that featured one of the top recruits in the nation–Jarvis Garrett, Mt. Zion defenders did their very best in trying to contain the explosive Notre Dame point guard. For the first half, they did a very good job. In fact, the first 20 in general was a defensive struggle. Baskets were hard-fought, with several remarkable plays under the net. Mt. Zion’s Romone Saunders led all scoring at the half with 7. As the clock ticked down toward the break, however, both offenses began to pick it up a bit by exchanging both jumpers and threes. It was the Crusaders of Notre Dame who carried a 29-26 lead into the start of the second half. Mt. Zion’s Warriors got started early and took their first lead of the game, 30-29 with just over 18 minutes to play. Then, Jarvis Garrett began to put on a clinic, and sparked a Crusader rally that put them up by double digits once again. The Warriors would not be shut down, however, and regained the lead with just over seven to play. Right back the other way comes Garrett with a pair of threes. Deja vu, anyone? Notre Dame took the lead for good, polishing off the Warriors 63-57. Notre Dame will play again tomorrow at 3 pm, and Saturday at 1:30.

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
Here's something to think about:
Marquette has four star 53rd ranked nationally, freshman PG Duane Wilson.
He's redshirting this season, because of a stress fracture
in his foot (tough injury for a basketball player).
If Wilson comes back healthy, Garrett will be playing backup for his entire
career in Milwaukee.
Wilson is also from Milwaukee.

This tournament could end up being a huge advantage for URI. Imagine if Garrett was spending four days in Marquettes backyard

BFC, they're loaded at PG at Marquette, with
underclassmen.
I think they may be looking for someone as a hedge if
Wilson doesn't completely heal.
Is that what Garrett is looking for?
Time for some Hurley straight talk to Jarvis.

It is strange that Marquette is in his final two. It's not like there is any way he isn't aware of who is ahead of him on the depth chart.

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
I don't know that much about Marquette (although I do like Buzz!), but it looks like they're already one over with their 5 '14 commits. Fischer is there already, which looks like the 13th spot. They graduate 4.
And yes, I know how these things have a way of working themselves out, but still.

Re: '14 WI PG - Jarvis Garrett (Offer)
Maybe he just wants a free trip home under the guise of an official visit. Or maybe he dreams of putting on the jersey of his hometown team, regardless of the situation. Hard to tell what motivates people sometimes, but it looks like he's eliminated a lot of schools that have legitimately offered him.Gonebarongone wrote:It is strange that Marquette is in his final two. There's some speculation on the Marquette board about possible transfers which is why they are staying in the point guard market.

Ok, thanks.Iggy1979 wrote:Big East vs A10 is a much more even recruiting battle these days
Wilson's injury, the one that's keeping him out this season, doesn't seem serious. He was reportedly back and practicing in a limited manner in December. He's a former 4 star recruit, so you have to think he's their future at the point. But for real, it doesn't even matter. You can lay out any reasonable scenario, think it's foolproof and then, nah.
Also, why does Marquette have so many Wilsons?
