Isn’t it a pleasure to watch Loyola play. The way basketball is supposed to be played. A good argument can be made that Norris is the Best point guard in the conference.

Could Valentine now be on the hot list for teams looking for a new coach?

I didn’t see players on either team arguing Ref calls. No players on either team displaying bad body language like shaking their heads, shrugging their shoulders.
All played hard every play, nobody jogging or taking plays off.
Truly a championship looking game
The Loyola Fans were superb.

Well done by Loyola hosting this game. Fans were really into it and displayed great spirit and happiness.
Congrats to Dayton too for taking the game down to the last minute.

Thank you McRam.

I have been defending Loyola and Valentine for almost 2 years now.

Anyone who still thinks Valentine can't coach needs to take a basketball 101 refresher course.
They play excellent defense and offensively distribute the ball extremely well.
Think about this; they are top 5 in the entire nation in assists.

His team has depth and he knows how to build a roster, plus they have recruited well.

I understand they will have a drop-off next season, to rebuild.
But they have some young talent and some quality recruits coming in.

Great game and great win for Loyola. Hate to see an A10 team drop out of the top 25 just in terms of national recognition, but I'm assuming that's where Dayton is headed...

I am seeing Loyola at a 93 NET ranking today - up from 96. Good team for A10 standards; not so much for NCAAT standards, unfortunately.

It is a reflection of how far away we are and where the conference stands despite being the 8th ranked NET conference.

It is unfortunate Loyola couldn’t play better in the OOC portion of the schedule. They may be playing better than their current NET ranking reflects but they won’t get to play those teams in other conferences NET ranked above
them to prove it.

For me, it goes back to what Jersey posted about 10 days ago in another thread: The A10 coaches need to up their game.

The current state is good but not good enough.

ETA: Maybe the NCAA should flip the schedule: start the season with conference games and finish it with the OOC portion - except for holiday tourneys only. :D

Reflecting his automotive handle, Kimo Ferrari set a Brown record by pouring in 10 treys in the Bruins win over Dartmouth which gives Brown its first ticket ever to Ivy Madness. Mike Martin is doing a great job as Brown coach and it's nice to see this from a New England native who isn't paid millions to coach.

FINAL WEEK OF THE SEASON

A10 Games Tuesday March 5:
  • Duquesne (18-11) @ VCU (-5.5) (19-10) ESPN+ 7pm
  • Dayton (-9.5) (22-6) @ St Louis (11-18) CBSSN 9pm

After starting the season 19-3, Dayton has looked somewhat vulnerable of late dropping to 22-6 splitting their last 6 games

Dayton has lost 3 straight road games:

Feb 9 @ VCU 47-49
Feb 13 vs Duquesne 75-59
Feb 17 vs Fordham 78-70
Feb 21 @ George Mason 67-71
Feb 27 vs Davidson 80-66
Mar 1 @ Loyola 72-77

Their 3 wins came against Duquesne, Fordham and Davidson in the last 6 games played

St Louis is capable of beating Dayton tonight in St Louis. Sincere Parker looked great scoring 16 points in 16 minutes vs URI b before going out to the locker room with a hurt right shoulder. If he is ok he could be a challenge
Jimerson played 39 minutes vs URI and was awesome scoring 30 points, close to his career high
Larry Hughes and Stef van Bussell also played well
An efficient 19 assists to only 5 turnovers for St Louis

Dayton should win handily, but an upset wouldn't surprise me

Duquesne can be dangerous if Dae Dae Grant gets hot. VCU has lost 2 of last 4 games

$1 beers is awesome. That gets people through the door. We have done $5 beers, which isn't really a draw.

If you do $1 beers for a big game in a season where your team is playing well? Sick, that gets the people going. If you do $5 beers in a bad season where people don't really want to go in the first place, you'll get mocked for it.

Rhody didn't copy a gimmick, because if they copied the gimmick, we'd have done $1 beers. Rhody did a poor attempt at copying the gimmick and did beer at $5.

Dae Dae Grant 26 points to lead all scorers including 5-5 FTs
Grant now 132-138 FTs to be 2nd in nation

VCU Played without Shulga tonight but Duquesne played well. Actually had a 13 point lead and VCU hit a 3 with seconds left to make it a 20 point win
Only Duquesne’s 2nd win in Siegel Center
VCU is in some trouble now holding onto the double bye seed with this loss.
I don’t thing they were looking ahead as much as they got beat by the better team tonight. Dae Dae Grant was the best player on the floor tonight

To me, it reflects, the absurdity of the Net rankings. Guessing if Loyola started the season higher, say under 100, they would have a net under 50 or lower. I think they somehow use last years final rating as a starting point.

KenPom uses previous season as a starting point.

NET doesn’t come out at the beginning of the season, they only use current season results.

Not sure the exact point of the season that NET is released.

Not having Shulga available was huge.
He is the team's best player, leading them in scoring (15 pts) and assists (3.6), plus averaging 5 rebs.
In this league it is tough to come away with a victory without your top player.
