Mazzulla to WVU players: “don’t leave, be a Mountaineer!”

WVU players: *leave*

His speech to the team went over super well.

You can see with motivational skills like that, why the Celtics won the NBA title this year.

kinda doubt that even...

Beginning with the 2022-23 season, he still had $61.5 million left on his deal. It would be a steep buyout if Kentucky were to fire him. If fired, Kentucky would owe Cal 75% of what remains of his deal. If he was fired this offseason, he would be paid $39.75 million.

Tre certainly isn’t at fault for Beard or Huggins getting arrested!
But this is the new world of the ncaa.
I can’t wait until players can just leave any “school” at any time and be immediately eligible anywhere they can make more money or get more love.
Four “schools” in five years. How many more years eligibility will Tre have when he leaves UK?

It is just a matter of time when players can transfer midseason & play right away. The rationale will be, "why should this elite player on [insert a low mid-major here] have to sit out for the tournament. They should be able to play for [insert a P5 school here] immediately!"

I think actually the opposite will happen and more controls will eventually be put in place. It's the wild Wild West until the NCAA can exert some control at some point. While no going back on players earning dollars I do think there will be some controls in place that regulate the market, create windows when things can and cannot happen, etc. All pro leagues have these protocols in place and if in fact college football and basketball will mimic pro sports then it is only natural there will be transfer windows etc.

Yes, I meant to type “portal” instead of “NIL.” My bad there.

The point still stands.

There will never be a policy saying incoming freshman have to stay for two years unless there’s a coaching change. Nonstarter.

Just because it will never happen based on the direction that things are moving in, doesn't mean it wouldn't be a good idea for improving the landscape in college basketball. Both of your points can be correct, and are correct in my opinion.

Yes Ramster, they certainly look loaded this season.
Aside from some very talented and high scoring transfers, they also recently signed 4*/5* top 30 freshman recruit Simeon Wilcher who had decommitted from North Carolina.

He would be a great start for 24-25.

St. John's will need to reload again after this season.
They lose:
Soriano (15 pts/12 rebs)
Dingle (Penn. 23.4 pts/ 3.6 rebs/ 2.3 assists)
Ledlum (Harvard 19 pts/8.5 rebs)
Jenkins (Iona 15.6 pts/ 5 assists)
Conway (VMI 12 pts/ 5 rebs)
Slazinski (Iona 11.3 pts/ 5.7 rebs)
Alleyne (UConn 5 pts)

Pitino is not worried about reloading next year or any year.

I've heard said by some here that Cox got left with very little talent by Hurley. If Jacob Toppin makes the Knicks, which I think he will, that means Cox had a team with 3 future NBA players on it. Dowtin with Toronto, Martin with Atlanta and Toppin with NY Knicks, plus Fatts Russell. All Cox teams decreased in talent from that team. Toppin and Martin chose other pastures to develop their skills and bodies. No URI team has had 3 NBA players on it at the same time that I can recall.

URI had $1.5 million from Hurley's buyout by UCONN plus 2 years of NCAA Tournament money having gone to the 2nd round twice. But we went cheap at $700k per year with Cox.

Should have gone after a Pitino or Archie level HC then, not an unproven, inexperienced assistant.

What might have been...............
