Idk if he has the right size/game combo to make an NBA roster, but if he has a good summer he can probably raise his profile enough in the basketball world to get more and more opportunities overseas.

NO sign of EC yet. And Young is just brickin it.

Halftime- No EC.

Jaylen Adams knocks down a 3.1:45 left in the 3rd. No EC yet.

at 8 minutes left in the 4th, I'm guessing EC is not playing.

Hassan Martin looking good in Celtics green. Seems to have a lot of fans from his year in Japan if you read the twitter comments....

Hopefully he gets some run considering he wakes up on time and makes flights.

EC picks up a DNP last night...

From Celtics blog:

Martin is maybe the most intriguing guy on the team. He’s 6’7, has a 6’11 wingspan, weighs 240 lbs, and has hands that measure at 10.5 inches which are bigger than Kawhi Leonard. He was part of the Rhode Island team that went back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since Lamar Odom was on the team, and he has only been playing basketball for about seven years. Martin has a big man’s game and he loves playing on the block and punishing people with his strength. He’s an above the rim threat too, boasting a 38 inch vertical. After going undrafted he went to over to Japan B-1 league to play for the Ryukyu Golden Kings where he averaged 15.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg and shot 67.6% from the field while leading helping the Golden Kings become one of the best defensive teams in the league.

EC once again gets a lot of run, 3 whole minutes of action. 2 pts on 1-1 FG, 1 assist, 1 TO. Nice looking +/- of +7 in limited time like all the end of bench guys, for reference Memphis' draft picks Jaren Jackson went 1-7 on FGs in 26 minutes and Jevon Carter was a cool -22 +/- in 24 minutes. Marc Gasol is on the beach somewhere wincing.

Tonight the Vegas summer league kicks off: Celtics are in action 7:30 on ESPN and Timberwolves at 11 on NBA TV. We'll see if Hass and Jared get some PT. In an alternate universe, Hurley could have jumped from URI several seasons earlier and Jay Larranaga who is coaching Hass tonight could have coached him at Rhody. But now Jay's name doesn't come up as often for college jobs and he seems even more ingrained into the NBA game and happy to be Brad Stevens' assistant.

Hope EC can maybe get some more time later on.
Nice to see he's scored when he's gotten out there.
I can really see him carving out a nice career overseas.
Wouldn't be surprised if he hs a similar career to Xavier Munford.

To me it seems he doesn't play quite fast enough for the NBA and he gets in his head too much.
What do you guys think?

I think those are things he can get better at though.
I'm rooting for him. He was one of the main pieces that put us back on the map. Hope the best for him.
Even if he doesn't ever crack into the NBA at least he could spend career over in places like Spain and France.
Not too shabby.

EC doesn't get seriously injured twice and he's a first round pick IMO.

EC reminds me a lot of Delroy except at the Guard position. Lefty athlete who can get to the rim and create off the dribble but struggles with the right hand. Both were also quick to put head down in traffic when the defense collapsed and miss open men on the perimeter, not great court vision. EC's jumper is a little too inconsistent, didn't it seem like he air-balled an inordinate number of 3's for a guy with his shooting ability. I don't see EC catching on even as a fringe 12/13th guy on an NBA bench but I bet he has a very nice career overseas. ACL definitely affected is progression, but I don't think he would have been more than a 2nd rounder had the injury not occurred.

An injury to a player’s shooting hand/wrist that occurs in-season is significant.

I wore my Hass URI Jersey around Boston today. So excited for him and his opportunity. It will be an uphill battle for sure though. Even if he doesnt make it this will be a great chance to boost his profile even more overseas.

Hasn't played yet tonight with 9 minutes left in the 3rd

Hass really whooped ass.
He's undersized but he can jump with anybody and he's really strong. Stronger than he was a year ago.

Yeah he definitely played hurt during the 2017 tourney run and it affected how strong he could play last summer. Now with a year gone by and playing basketball for a living Hass is definitely stronger than ever.

Edit: And it looked like he has been practicing perimeter D, really stayed with the forwards out there.

He really won the game for them. They were down 2 when he entered.
Late he scores a traditional 3 on O Reb to give Cs 1 point lead. Then he gets tie up on other end and wins the jump ball.
On Cs possession he sets a pick/closes of the lane to give Yabusele an uncontested dunk. Up 3 with minute to go. Game over.

He has earned more minutes in the next game.

Jay Larranaga calls Hassan Martin’s effort during the 4Q an example of “true professionalism.” Martin was a key to tonight’s win, after not hearing his number called during the first three quarters.

Hassan was super tonight. He looked very poised and set several nice picks besides his scoring. His post of move and spin and dunk were classic Hassan. Very happy to see him look so good after sitting mos of the game.

Especially when two of the most recent critiques in this thread are "an inordinate amount of air balls" and "struggles when he loses confidence in his shot"

Just saw the Celtics box....Hass scored 8 points in 5 minutes, also had 2 rebounds and a steal. You would think that might earn him more minutes going forward?

IMO, EC was no longer a NBA Draft prospect after his Jr RS year. His peak was after his Soph year. He statistics where very simliar all four years. His FG% ranged from .410 (soph) to .429 (Sr), 3P% from .322 (Sr) to .348 (Fr), FT% from .726 (Sr) to .738 (Fr), points from 13.6 (Sr) to 16.9 (Soph). The higher PPG his Soph year can be associated to a significantly higher shots per game. Jr & Sr year the team was more balanced. He did have a drop in assist per game from his Fr/Soph year to his Jr/Sr year. He ran the offense more the first two years. Dowtin and Garrett ran the offense the last two years.

I think EC lost quickness from the knee injury. He lost that explosive drive to the basket.

It was fun to watch Hass again on the court last night. He played great and made a difference in helping the Celts come from behind to win. Had a really massive dunk after getting free from a defender. Deserves more playing time after his performance.

I agree that his stock was never higher than it was between the Adidas camp after his sophomore year and the knee injury, and he probably wasn't a serious draft prospect after the knee injury. I only disagree with saying his wrist injury wasn't significant.

Fair enough on the wrist injury. My point about the wrist injury was that it wasn’t significant regarding him not being a first round NBA pick (per Mob05’s comment).

Hassan got a lot of praise after the game. This from the Celtics.com site:

In addition to the team’s resiliency, Larranaga also commended its professional nature. Hassan Martin, who scored eight of Boston’s final 18 points after not recording a point during the first three quarters of the game, was at the forefront of that march.

“I think it’s the message we said in the locker room,” Larranaga said of what Martin’s contribution meant to the team. “We talked about: This Summer League is very similar to an NBA season, where you don’t know when your opportunity is going to come, but it’s going to come. Hassan was ready. Just a great example of professionalism and just always being ready when you’re called on.”

Boston likely would have lost this game without Martin’s contributions, and with that in mind, there may have been no better path for the Celtics to log their opening-game victory.

Memphis has a 16 player roster. Looks like EC was brought in as a practice player. I believe the players don’t get paid for NBA Summer League. NBA Summer League players don’t get paid. Just tbeir room & board and meal per diem is covered. And the opportunity for exposure. Thank you Memphis for not giving EC a chance at getting exposure. I will now hope for the Grizzlies to suck again this year.

Edit: EC was DNP. 2nd half was last guy sitting at the end of the bench. Has to be hard for him after always playing in HS and college.

Neither team looked good. Not much D and teams shoot 36% (Det) and 42%(Mem). Mrmphis shot 21% from three.
