Re: Game 8: Providence College (Saturday, Dec 5, 7:00pm ESPN
URI/PC games are more exciting at the Ryan than the Dunk, tomotrow will be the 4th in a row I've seen down there. Passion of URI fans for PC makes it like watching a game in a beehive. I felt bad for the good fans in 2009, because at the time I was embarrassed for the fan base who celebrated a win over such a bad PC team by storming the court (I'm pretty anti-court Storm, beliefs are consistent regardless of program). You don't get that feel for PC/URI games at the Dunk, at least in a long time, and that is part of the excitement. I still find that behavior silly, but if it adds to the excitement in my personal viewing experience, so be it.

To get you all fired up for the game:
We're Rhode Island born,

So, go go Rhode Island, Island!
Go, go Rhode Island, Island!

Re: Game 8: Providence College (Saturday, Dec 5, 7:00pm ESPN
Not saying this is Dan's biggest game of his career, but what is?
I would say the semifinal in Brooklyn.. Maybe that Davidson game we lost on that ice cold game winner in the corner.
This has various reasons why it could be the biggest if he wins it. They recruit against each other. Like literally most of the guys they go after list both schools. Obviously its a battle for the state. Its also outside of everything a ranked team at home. The four losses in a row are becoming the story here and will definitely be the story if he goes 0-5. They have been losing by close margins.
I don't think its going out on a limb to call this Dan's biggest game in what has been an era with not many big games. I think in college football its a big game if you win or lose. In basketball for a school like ours, I think its only big if you win. If he loses we just move on and everything stays the same. If he wins, it could signal a change.

I would think his biggest games sine arriving at URI are: Kansas, Arizona, Maryland, Nebraska and VCU/Dayton. This years pc team is next on the list. Not because they are pc, but because they are ranked.

Think so?? They didn't compete in the Kansas/Zona/Maryland games. They did however play close to Ohio State, that was very exciting.
Neb/VCU/Dayton were certainly big games. I thought the Richmond game last year @UR was huge and the team delivered. EC put that team to bed.

Re: Game 8: Providence College (Saturday, Dec 5, 7:00pm ESPN
This is borderline shocking to me that URI is favored in this game. I know home court counts but pc is clearly a better squad than URI right now and are getting contributions from several of their players. Lomomba, Cartwright & Fazekas have all looked solid in their games vs good competition and you know what you're gonna get from Dunn, Bentil and Bullock. I've been especially impressed with how they've played when Dunn goes to the bench, hoping for a URI win but I'm not sure we have enough offense to stay with them, hoping I'm wrong.RF1 wrote:

Re: Game 8: Providence College (Saturday, Dec 5, 7:00pm ESPN
On paper we look to be better. On court, we know they can be better. That's kinda where we are. We know JG and JT are better than they have played. KI is playing like we hoped he would. He is improving every game. Hass needs to get out of his funk and dominate again. Four can light it up. Earl hasn't been bad, in fact pretty good. We just haven't seen a game yet where all cylinders are firing at the same time. That I think is the big what if. If these guys can all be on the same page, play to their norm, this can be a dangerous team. They are winning with inconsistent individual results. If these guys can play to their potential, TOGETHER, this team will be very hard to beat.

I like the term "bees nest" to describe what SHOULD be the atmosphere for this game.
Let's hope it is, and it frazzles PC. We'll be there helping out. Go Rhody!

As rough as the Baron years were at (most) times, the 2007 PC game will forever go down as one of the best sporting moments of my life.
It was my sophomore year and I got in line two hours before tip off. After a while, the students at the back of the line grew increasingly restless and rushed the door. The crowed was pushed into the open doors. I couldn't move. A girl next to me had a strawberry coolatta... I wore it the rest of the night. I got inside the door, a URI cop grabbed the kid behind me and the doors were slammed closed.
With no ticket I headed to the upper level. The early stages were tight .... and then Jimmy, Lamonte, Will Daniels, Parfait, Kaheim and Keith Cothran delivered. 77-60. Friars student section left early.
This is a rivalry. If it wasn't the win wouldn't have felt as amazing. And if it wasn't I wouldn't continually get chills watching this:
Get em Rhody

Also my favorite moment in this rivalry. I had graduated the year before but lived down the line with friends while working my first out of college job which not surprising didn't last long. I was right there with you rushing the south entrance gates to get in.Rhody10ltu09 wrote:As rough as the Baron years were at (most) times, the 2007 PC game will forever go down as one of the best sporting moments of my life.

Close second would be my freshman year for PC's first visit to the RC in the snow storm. Will never forget Heleng'a's three from about 30 feet away.
I am really glad this game is finally where it belongs being played on a the first Saturday of December. Hope they can keep it there every year

Yeah, I was hoping the allotment for this game would have been at least 2000, if not 2500. We want the students to come, then when they show up. maybe half of them can't get in. I wonder if the ones that got turned away try to come back in the future. One thing is for sure, the ones who got turned away will not get to see what a great, fun atmosphere it can be at the RC. That's not how you want to build student interest and excitement.Rhodymob05 wrote:"Only" 1500 will get tickets but there was a few thousand lined up.Amazing really. That's why I decided early on that I would offer my nephew, a URI senior, my other ticket. He missed getting in two years ago for the PC game as he went too late to get in line. I wanted to make certain he at least experienced this home game once as a student. He has gone to most of the other games thus far via the student route.

Do we know why they only have 1,500? Did they want to sell more tickets knowing that it would be a sell out? Did PC get too much of an allotment?

They knew the game would sell out, so every student ticket takes money out of their pocket. I can see that logic, but I would prefer they sell a thousand less tickets and try to get students in the building.jmck wrote:Do we know why they only have 1,500? I get only giving 1500 tickets at first, but if there are tickets being held for walkups or any other same day availability give them to the kids.. Eliminate any opportunity for any PC yahoos to get in.. There has been plenty of time for the paying customer to get their tickets.. There should not be an empty seat in the building....

I'm sure a big booster could make up the difference in those 2 sections to get an extra 500 or so students into the building.

I believe that tickets for this game have been sold out for some time. It was not an easy task for anyone buying tickets just for this game, be it URI or PC fan. After the season tickets, mini-packs, extra tickets for season ticket holders, student allotment, and PC allotment, there were few tickets left available for sale.
