No offense but the beach? Really? Lol we would be laughed at. Yes its related to the state but has zero to do with sports, the school, or the mascot. Come on lol.

The thing about the beach that is good is that it will give the students something to latch onto to do funny (possibly drunken) college things, like showing up to games in February dressed like they are going to the beach and knocking beach balls around and whatnot. That might scare some people, but encouraging kids to enjoy themselves and have fun is a good way to get them in the door. Once they're there, if the team is good they will get engaged in the game.

Who knows? Who cares? It is Long Beach State. I don't even know if that is in California, Florida or on Long Island. There are thousands of colleges in the country. Good luck trying figure out something good that nobody has thought of yet.

WHY NAME IT NOW?!

Let the Students themselves earn a reputation for their style and themes which will result in a meaningful name if we must have one.

As a student, I actually really agree with this.

I raised this opinion and concern to Athletics Marketing earlier, but it sounds like one way or another this is more to get students thinking about attending and participating in game-day experience once basketball season starts.

You name it now so students feel apart of something. I understand it should be given to them and not created by them but I think its a good way to start thing off by having the students pick out the name together and then being proud of it come game day. New floor, new coach, new players, new students and new student section to complete the new generation of rhody basketball.

Rhody Rukus is terrible. The Stampede sounds a little childish. Personally out of the three above I would go with Ram Nation until a better name is determined. Still like Blue Crew or Keaney Blue Crew #KBC.

Rhody Ruckus?!?!? Yet another reason why Americans shouldn't be allowed to vote for anything. The only possible plus is that I can make a Breakfast Club joke whenever I get back to the Ryan Center.

The problem with naming something before it earns it: when 5 kids come to the first couple games, it becomes a punch line.

Ya know like when you pay millions of dollars for a PR rebranding to make your motto "think big. we do" and then do the exact opposite of that (until your athletic department steps up to the plate and gets your basketball program on track).

Beyond the process of naming something before it earns it organically, I think the name sucks. Oh well, win some/lose some.

I agree with those here, who felt the student section should
have named itself after time.
Anyone who has grandchildren....my daughter tried to come up with all kinds
of names the kids should call me. I eliminated grampa, but told her, they would
eventually pick a name of their own, which they did. It just happened.
Did Section 8 come around by a vote? No! Great name.
For those who aren't familiar with the term Section 8, it's a military term for
the psycho ward, not subsidized housing..
Same with this thing. This manufactured voting sucks.

Here's their FB page...only 36 "likes" so far, although the group was started only 3 days ago. Hopefully, this number grows quickly. We need the students to really step it up, starting with the 1st home game this year. OK, you've got your name, now go out and live up to it.

speaking from the perspective of a current student and one of those "magnificent eleven" who was in the student section yelling and screaming every game, there isn't a single one of my friends who I haven't told to get their rear ends down to the RC this year cause the team will be good. I couldn't care less what the section name is (I didn't even place a vote), as long as there is some sort of Ruckus (as opposed to last year) I'll be happy. The name Rhody Ruckus will be made great if we own it and make noise, if the student section isn't loud it doesn't matter how great the name is, it'll be a laughingstock

Not sure if this belongs here or under Ryan Center Experience, but the Students now will have a dedicated entrance to all home men's basketball games. Another great idea to encourage students to attend games. No longer tickets are needed and they get to by pass the normal line.
