adam914 wrote: 1 month ago Bottom line, in my opinion, is we have zero D1 point guards on the roster right now so I think we need two (I don't consider Kortright a true PG even if he does come back). How we end up getting there is anyone's guess!
I'd go as far to say having Hammond + either of those portal PG's makes us a significantly better team. Changes everything.

Luis and Ways are just two incomplete PG's. Luis is too slow, won't push the pace. Ways does push the pace, but has no offense. All year it would be nice to have Luis offense, but he couldn't stay in front of anyone on defense, especially the PG's he guarded and Ways would push the ball the way we want, but just refused to even try and score.

Hammond/transfer PG will push the pace, be a threat to score and play better defense.

Not sure how much better it makes us, but there's no question it will be significant.

Hope Luis stays and agrees to play off the ball. He would be so much better for us in that role. Maybe even a 6th man and emergency PG.

Instead of him never pushing the ball, you have someone passing it to him on a fast break and he's good at getting to the basket and finishing. He's pretty big too. He'd be better off defending bigger slower guards night in and night out.

Either way, PG is being addressed in a big way and that's nothing but a good thing.

I wonder if we will kick the tires on Georgetown transfer guard Dontrez Styles ? He entered the portal today, I believe.

Good size, averaged 12/gm. Downside: Some of the GU fans said he disappeared when the conf scheduled rolled around.

That said, my priorities are still an experienced PG to match with Hammond and 2 bigs (one starter quality and one of backup quality).

Let’s just load up the roster best we can and worry about this year only , can’t look ahead to 25-26 anymore in this college hoops landscape

Luis was the most clutch player on our team. He was a leader and had some great games. I don't think he's a starter on a top-four A10 team, but having a guy who can run the point and play off the ball is great.

My brother graduated from Ohio State, so I root for them after Rhody. Zed had a bad year this season, but I think he'll be great at Dayton. Great get.

I hope we land someone soon!!

I've decided, after much consideration, I'm entering the Fan Portal. Any College team can reach out to me and provide NIL offers. Free tickets, free beer and concessions would put them at the top of my fan list. Willing to make official visits as well. Please have a lot of swag available for me. (c/s)

78, I am starting not to think 2 years ahead and the potential implications. Which is a change for me.

In year 2, If we have a traffic jam at a position and the younger player is as good as the vet then, I think we release the vet and put most or some of his money towards another need and fill the vets spot with a less expensive backup.

Note: I am assuming the experienced vets are a higher NIL cost than freshman.
Teams definitely need to hire a GM. I have a headache thinking about all this crap.
Speaking of...you could sign a guy, pay him $200K and he turns out to suck. And the next year, no one wants him, including you...does that mean the player could stay on the team and play for 'no nil'? Or a significant pay cut? You can't just yank a scholarship, can you? Or are those just 1 year jobs now?

Cohen is gone too, so what's the reason he would stick with UMass? They don't really seem poised for a tournament run, the type of team that needs a fifth year player. They're probably rebuilding this year and transferring down in conference starting with 2025-26. Also, he seems like a guy that would have gone pro before the NIL, but now the financial incentives are about even for him to just play college ball another year. That can be a positive or negative thing, depending on your perspective.

I've been thinking lately

If we had gotten our shit together this year and had more success, we probably don't return the core players we return. They were just inconsistent enough we can add solid pieces to compliment them and have a decent team next year.

UMass had a decent year and they lost some of their best players, where we actually kept ours lol.

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Feels like if our players were more consistent more would have been enticed to portal, so it almost feels like a blessing in disguise, because we were able to keep all our best players. Makes building a roster easier for next year. UMass has lost I think their 3 best players.

We just need to add a PG, wing, another big and two depths pieces to a solid core group.
