It mystifies me how they can continue to roll out single A pitching. Especially with what is still a pretty solid batting order.

Somebody splain the logic to me cause looks like a missed opportunity to me.

Clean up hitter batting Only .207, why is JD Martinez still in that slot? Move him out, he’s had a horrendous year.

Barnes vs. Yankees
Barnes has a 9.53 ERA (27 ⅓ innings, 30 earned runs) in 31 career outings vs. New York.

Martinez’s average down to .199
J.D. Martinez’s batting average is down to .199 after he went 0-for-6 with four strikeouts.

Barnes as closer going forward appears to be a fantasy.

Eleven straight losses to the Yankees. The Red Sox flat out suck and few are even following them anymore. New England interest in baseball and the Red Sox is approaching its lowest point since before the Impossible Dream season of 1967.

I watched the game last night until 12:15am (because I have no life, and what else can you do at that time o' night and stay out of trouble?) And I thought, as sad and boring as that was...how must it be if you're a player on the Red Sox? Your team stinks, you're going nowhere, it's after midnite and there are no fans in the stadium. That has to suck. Bad. I felt bad for Jerry Remy having to stay up that late.

Yankees have now won 12 straight games vs Red Sox. 3rd time in their history that they have won 12 straight vs Boston.

Today the Yankees can make historY by winning 13 straight.

What a hopeless team Boston is today.

From ESPN
The Yankees pummeled the Red Sox 8-0 on Saturday night for their 12th consecutive victory over their American League East rivals, tying a franchise record. The Yankees -- who also have now won 10 consecutive games overall since landing at the .500 mark on Sept. 8 -- have taken 17 of the past 18 games between the clubs since July 28, 2019.

Pitcher checks...good or bad? I'm a fan of offense, but it seems like the decrease in spin rate has just led to more walks...which are every bit as boring as Ks (too lazy to look up the stats...just what it seems like). Speed up the game by giving the pitcher 20 seconds to throw it, or it's a ball. My biggest issue is still...pitch...the...fricken...ball....

Baseball game length has magically increased mostly because of commercial time - three minutes between each half-inning is roughly 50 minutes by itself. Everything else is just trimmin' around the edges.

Well, it's kinda hard to find a great fielding CF who can hit, so it made sense to keep Bradley Jr. when he was younger and cheaper. It's not like Hernandez is doing any better.

Doesn’t surprise me with the drop in averages that he is hitting that low. Glad he is out of Boston and thank him for coming up huge in the 2018 ALCS v Houston

I love JBJ.....streakiest hitter ever.

But, hoo boy! Garret Richards goes tonight!
I'm going with 2 1/3 IP max...5 walks, 4 hits, at least 3 runs ...and he starts losing it, hitting people and ducks the post game. Sox win 8-6.

May not survive 2 1/3.. he needs to go away.. bloom has made some good moves. This isn't one of them.. very soft. Doesn't fit the mold of most of the rest of the team.

9 of 10...not too shabby...
And, yesterday, featuring a lineup that has the last 4 hitters with BA's of... .206, .167, .216, and .207...
If they can win with that, great...it is one of two parts that makes me wonder.
The other...Barnes. If they get to the WS, it seems like it'll be because of him. If they don't...maybe the same thing.
Hard to trust that guy, then again, that's closers these days... I never think the Sox are out of it against other closers either.

I guess it's debatable...but I think I'd rather have jbj than any of the Mendoza area code quartet with the possible exception of Dalbec (potential alone).

He's sitting at .172 through 280 plate appearances, and .292 slugging, which is pretty awful. His OPS+ is 48 - around 100 is an average major leaguer. He hit .283 last year, but it isn't unheard of for a baseball player to just shockingly lose it all from one season to the next. Chris Davis is one that comes to mind recently. Diamond Digest did a series on the AL East here.

But we are getting closer to collapse territory

Lost today on a walk off HR in the bottom of the 7th. 7th??? Did I just say that?

Barnes gives up the HR to the first batter he faced. Sox lose 1-0.
2nd game of double header tonight.

Barnes loads the bases in the top of the 9th, including two walks and gives up a double to clear the bases - now 7-4 Tampa Bay as Sox run the risk of going 5 games back in the standings. Need a miracle in the bottom of the 9th.

Sox are now (3-11) in their last 14 games. Last night lost (8-1) to Tampa Bay. Barnes had the decision in 4 consecutive games losing 3 and winning 1.
Now mid August Sox have a critical series with last plus Baltimore - must take at least 2 in the series.

The Rizzo non-move is a fair second guess since the Yankees didn’t have to dip into any of their top end prospects to acquire him.

Berrios non-move is hard to argue with considering the price the Jays paid. They gave up Austin Martin, who was the 5th pick in the 2020 draft and was already excelling at AA and ranked as the 16th overall prospect in the game per MLB.com. Jays also gave up Simeon Woods-Richardson, a young arm who is ranked as the 68th overall prospect in
MLB at the time of trade.

Sox would have had to put Casas, Houck and more in the deal just to approach the package the Jays offered. Trading Casas would have made no sense considering the Sox have a hole at 1B and Casas is likely to arrive next year.

The lack of quality bullpen acquisitions is fair second guess. Robles is atrocious.

This team is the same team that was in first and was very competitive with Tampa/NY ect. Something took the wind out of the sail. They will have Schwarber and Arroyo which will help the offense and Sale and Braiser on the mound. Get rid of Franchy and use Dalbec more. There's still time.
