Coit would be a huge get. He and House would be a problem on the offensive end. The only thing with Coit is if he comes, I don't see how Hammond plays much unless you want two undersized point guards on the floor.

Stevey, besides Hammond being impacted regarding PT, I also think Cam is impacted, too. Note: I am just focusing on younger guards in this post.

Is it possible House could still go pro overseas ?

Is there more player maneuvering possibilities going on behind the scenes than I (we?) are aware of at this time ?

Cam won't necessarily be impacted

Maybe he is impacted if they play Hammond and Coit at the same time, which I think they could sometimes do.

I wonder what Always and Luis do? Both leave? Luis leaves and Ways stays? Ways redshirts and Luis stays? I think Ways has more ability than some people think. He's just raw. He's plenty athletic. Gain some weight, work on his offensive game and he could be pretty good. Be Hammonds back up in a couple years? Otherwise he'll just get recruited over.

Went 3 pages into the Recruiting section and only noted three ‘25 prospect threads.

Seems the portal transfers are sucking up most of the oxygen in the KB roster construction room.

Is it only because the portal is open currently or is this a permanent macro shift in roster building ? Will HS recruiting become more and more de-emphasized ?

Thoughts?

That’s a great point Drums , especially for mid majors like URI maybe get 2 recruits like a Hammond and Farrell then the rest of the roster is made from the portal

I’m sure each coach has their own philo

OK, seems like another bucket getter, which on the surface is not a bad thing. Against the A-10 competition? Wonder what the ripple effects would be to current stayers? Of course for me those highlights are all O, can he D?

Not sure we can get him, but I would take him in a NY second.

As far as D goes, the staff needs to coach them up.
If they are to be successful, the coaches need to bring out that effort in the players.

I haven’t really watched much of Coit but what little I have watched and read, he’s a very talented offensive player - which is great - but he looks quick, too.

Just a random thought I had regarding the quickness and his height…

Imagine if he came to Rhody and if we installed a full court press to strategically utilize at times with him and Hammond ball hawking all the way up court with their pesky quickness and quick hands.

I don’t think Archie would put two 5’11 guards in at the same time normally but I would sure love to see those two ball hawking the heck out of the opposition in a strategically utilized full court press in short spurts.

Short spurts of harassment and chaos. I would enjoy watching us do that to the opposition.

See those ball handlers? Go sick ‘em !!

Go Rhody!

ETA: Having nightmare flashbacks to my playing days having to go against small, quick, pesky ball hawks at times. Ooph. :D

They’re looking at another kid in the transfer market that has a similar profile. Maybe slightly taller but a combo type guard that has had success at a lower level.

I was on campus today. I had a student come up to me outside the quad. He was a strong, tough guy, and he was crying. He said, “Mr. Coit , thank you for saving rhody basketball”

I said, “I know he can”

I’m telling you, that student, he was tough. I don’t think he cried when he was a baby. But here we are.

Indiana State star Robbie Avila, one of the breakout stars of the 2023-24 college basketball season, has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Avila's portal entry is marked by a red exclamation point, which means not to reach out to him, a sign that he's already made up his mind on his destination.

Both Avila and his coach had everyone returning and could have made it a special season while making the tourney. He then could have parlayed his success into a much better job than St. Louis. Both will probably end up with a very mediocre season at best next year instead of making the tourney

Schertz just got a 1.5mm raise and will take his whole team with him and likely compete at the top of the league for a bid just like he would have done in the Valley. It was a no brainer move. Who would turn that raise down? No one.

Definitely a good move by Schertz and SLU in hiring him.
All the starters and top scorers for Indiana State are in the portal and looks like Avila probably already made up his mind to join SLU.

Not sure it is an exaggeration but heard on another site that it will take upwards of $1.5M NIL to sign them all.

Top ISU players in the portal:

(C) Robbie Avila averaged 17.4 pts (39% 3PT), 6.6 rebs/ 4 assists
(CG) Ryan Conwell averaged 16.6 pts (41 % 3PT)/ 5.8 rebs
(PG) Isaiah Swope averaged 16 pts (36% 3PT)
(F/PF) Javon Kent averaged 13.5 pts (37% 3PT)/ 8 rebs
(CG) Julian Larry averaged 11 pts (46% 3 PT)
(Wing) Xavier Bledson averaged 6.7 pts (86% FT)

Yeah 22 getting 4-5 will be tough, not sure how much NIL $ SLU has to ante up.
Also as mentioned there would probably be much P5 interest in several of these players.

Yeah Dino, if SLU can pull it off, great for them.
Compared to us, they have much more NIL $ to work with, but compared to the P5 not in their ballpark.
Some of those ISU players might prefer to transfer to a high major if given the opportunity.
