We have a lot of tall trees who have very similar styles of play now. This guy stands out as the one that does the dirty work in the paint. He may be able to carve out quite a few minutes for himself for that reason. Of the five:

Samb
Bilau
Stewart
Tchikou
Foumena

It's the first two in that list that you would rather stay home and not step out hoist up shots from the perimeter. The last three have demonstrated they can hit those shots.

I think I remember Archie saying he was pleasantly surprised (paraphrasing) with Samb's outside shot.

He absolutely did.

Samb has a nice outside touch and smooth around the basket.

Big Jo Bilau also shot 33.3% from three last season. We are all shooters…

Hope he recovers soon. I know people like the height, but the front court is really inexperienced and, unless everyone overachieves, not that deep.

That is our biggest concern for 22-23, inexperience and quality depth up front.

Another reason why I am really hoping Samb can be an impact player for us.

Play Martin at the 5 if needed.

I am wondering the same, PRT. Good question. Perhaps one of our fellow KB’ers will shed some light.

I hope he’s ready to go day one of practice.

Sucks. You join a new team, rehab one injury, get back to practicing and playing, start to get your legs under you and start playing well and then this crap happens. Really sucks.

I wish the young man some good breaks and hope to see him back fully healthy next season.

Does this count as a season for him?

Technically no, he only played 8 games and can apply for a medical hardship waiver.
That would still give him 3 years eligibility starting in 23-24.
But also, would be his 7th season, very doubtful he decides to stay that long.
His freshman year at Wichita State (19-20) he redshirted.
20-21 was a Covid do-over year, doesn't count.
Last season at Juco is the only one that counts so far.

According to Archie. Bilau will be out to start the '23-'24 season. Hopes to have him back by December or January.

Seems like he attacked his shoulder rehab head on and worked extremely hard to get back earlier than expected.

Hopefully he rehabs his ACL the same way and makes another early recovery.

At 100% I think he could be an absolute force.

So the transfer portal will HAVE to provide a replacement now.

Not necessarily, there are also Juco's.

Plus let's see how Foumena progresses.

He looked very uncomfortable, limping badly to and from the locker room.

I thought the same when I saw him in the shoot around, he was limping worse than I have seen.

Feel terrible for the kid, one thing after another.

He's clearly shown he can be a force when 100% healthy and playing.

Unfortunately he may not be 100% the rest of his career here.

If all four of our big guys are healthy, I'm taking him over all of them.

He's probably only going to be able to give us spot minutes, when he active he should take all of Brown's minutes.
